Best movie I've seen in a while. It's available on Netflix Instantwatch.

I discovered my new favorite actor -- Michael Shannon.

Date Night.

Funnier than expected. I thought I disliked Steve Carell, but I discovered it is only his Michael Scott character that annoys the hell out of me. In other roles he is pretty funny.

What!!! This movie was awesome. However, I agree with the other potser. You need to watch this movie twice to really appreciate it. I personally give it a 9.5/10.

The Prestige is quite tiresome and tedious to watch, I couldn't withstand much to even consider finishing it all. I stopped watching it about 40-50 minutes in. I might give it another go some day, but I'm not surprised that someone would give it 0/10.

While its impact is often overplayed, it's just cunty contrarianism to say "ZERO OUT OF TEN!!"

I myself wouldn't steep that low, nor would I rate a film I didn't fully watch. But it isn't "cunty" to give it a zero if you totally did not find anything worth enjoying or appreciating in film. I've never given a film a zero, but some people rate movies on enjoyability and I can understand that completely.

I am unintentionally watching movies that I differ from the majority of GAF on.

I watched Cars again last night and it's every bit as great as I remember.

The ending is absolutely PIXAR perfect.

I love the scenes that seem to get on others nerves like the boardwalk stroll and the actual racing which nails the look and feel of a NASCAR race.

That's fine, but if one is doing that they have no business rating a film in the first place.

I don't think that's a fair thing to say. If it's on a professional level, I agree with you. But out of general interest everyone is entitled to give a score on a film to scale the level of entertainment they had with it. I recently watched A Serious Man with two other friends of mine, and for kicks when it was over each one of us gave it a score. I said I'd give it ~8/10 one of them said 2/10 and the other said -10/10. I think it's interesting and only re-enforces that we shouldn't be taking movie ratings seriously in the first place.

Ok, I rate his rating a negative million billion for thoughtfulness and actual contribution to society. Also, I rate your thoughts on the subject negative infinity billion. OUT OF TEN.

-1000000000000000x/10
-100000000000000000000000000x/10

ALTERNATE ENDING!

This comment was quite tiresome and tedious to read. I couldn't withstand much to even consider finishing it all. I stopped reading after about 3 sentences, but I'm not surprised someone would rate this comment negative infinity billion out of ten.

I swear to Obama himself that I'm just fuckin' with you. good times, man.

Heard a lot of grea things about Assassination of Jesse James, but I don't know anyone in real life who's actually seen it.

What's the deal with this film?

It's one of the few blurays I own. I loved it.

One of the best American films ever made.

First post in this thread was inspired by this excellent film:

An Education (9/10)

Well paced, intelligent film with a great cast and interesting characters. I predict it will be shown in high school English classes, not just for character study purposes, but also for the messages (and warnings) it sends to young people which are still relevant (if not more so) today.

3/10

Totally crap.

I seemed to be the only one who liked it out of those I saw it in theaters with. I enjoyed it up until the point where
the two characters decided to destroy the central building of the synthetic organ corporation.
It went down hill from there...

What? Talk about horrible reviewers.

That's the difference. I wouldn't have ever, EVER given it a 0/10. I think it was a very good movie but hard to watch. Read: fucking beautiful, and wounderous acting, but long and fucking boring. It is possible to hate great films, you know. This is one I hated.

Ok, do not watch The Assignation of Jesse James. You are not going to like it.

Assassination of Jesse James is essentially the exact same movie as There Will Be Blood. They're both just a bunch of cowboys talking to each other for 160 minutes (I'm serious the running times are 2 minutes apart). Jesse James has all the pacing and excitement of There Will Be Blood except without an oil rig exploding.

You are not going to like it.

If you are a patient movie viewer, certainly.
It's long and slow, but it's also gorgeous, incredibly well acted and tense.
Easily one of the best films I watched this year.

If you thought TWBB was long and boring, there's no way you're going to make it through The Assassination of Jesse James.
Yeah Jesse James is GLACIAL. Fantastic, but I'd be hard pressed to think of a recent movie that's any slower. Not to mention there's no plot tension because the title of the movie literally gives away the climax of the film.

That being said, BECAUSE you know the plot it throws the characters into the spotlight even more- you're free to focus on their motivations and absorb every nuance that is thrown at you. It's also an incredibly beautiful and choreographed movie.

But definitely slow, I suspect you will not like :lol

The Swimmer. Shit, that ending and everything leading up to it ruined my day. Burt Lancaster really put on an acting clinic from minute 1 up to minute 93, a mini emotional, mental and physical odyssey. There's plenty of ambiguity so I want to watch the movie again from a different perspective, but that would probably ruin my week. It's the kind of movie where you go on the IMDB boards right after to read other people's interpretations, and many of them work. There's a bit of goofy 60's-ness to the adaptation but it only serves to add to the surreal feel.

10/10

But get this; I'm still going to watch it, and when its unbearably plodding story isn't remotely redeemed by the beautiful cinematography nor it's singular "tense" scene near the end, I'll still come back and blame GAF for making me watch it. So there!

I loved There Will Be Blood, and I hated Almost Famous. I haven't seen Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and Pee Wee's Big Adventure is my favorite Tim Burton movie.

What do you think I'll end up rating Jesse James out of 10?

fear and loathing in las vegas- great... lmao'd
she's out of my league- though it'd suck badly but it was decent i laughed way more than I expecteed

Ronin - The perfect espionage movie. Have a lot of people watched it though? It seems to be under-appreciated as I can never find anyone else who's seen it. Movie-GAF, isn't this film great?

Great, no; good, yes. I love how focused the movie is: There's this case. Don't know what's in it. But get it. No romance, no lukewarm political intrigue, no trite backstories, just get the fucking case. DeNiro is a little hammy (he got a bit full of himself after Goodfellas, imo) but he and Jean Reno make a fun pair. The movie is well filmed, tense throughout, I've never seen a Frankenheimer that wasn't solid entertainment. Watched it earlier this afternoon, I'd give it 4/5.

I think I put this in my all-time top-10 from that poll someone was doing here a few weeks ago. One of the greatest overlooked movies of the last 50 years.

Fuck you I have to now!

I've only seen half of Jesse James, but my advice is to only watch that movie if you have a deep fascination with/fetish for cinematography. Its impossible to enjoy that movie in any sort of normal way. That abortion could only be entertaining to extreme film buffs, and only on some sort of technical level involving the camera work.

I might appreciate it more the second time, but it won't change that terrible ending.

this weird idea that assassination of jesse james is a great film is baffling. it's pretty sure, but its just as ponderous as the rest of the latest western revival movies.
