I was bored the other night and had just discovered that Hulu had movies as well as TV shows (who knew! Well, everyone but me, probably...) so I ended up watching the original Red Shoe Diaries because David Duchovny is a hunk. What a weird, awkward time capsule of early nineties salaciousness:

Duchovny and his girl have outdoor sex, bathtub sex, architectural sex; Duchovny says "I like the way you cum," asks girl to marry him; girl wears eyepatch, stalks sweaty construction worker-slash-shoe salesman, begins affair; slow-motion running in high heels, smooth, sassy jazz-funk music plays; dirty sex; dirtier sex; SO MUCH GUILT; drinking margaritas from blender; bathtub, candles, razorblade, sadface; best scene of all:

Duchovny challenges construction worker to 1-on-1 basketball, drunk European girls watch, shirts come off, elbow to face, blood, champagne spilled, pants come off, condoms spill onto floor ("Pro-phy-lac-tic?"), yelling, random spotlight, girls leave, rage-bonding.

Duchovny places personals ad requesting women send him their diaries of scandalous affairs, intending to start an erotic Showtime Original Series Intended for Mature Audiences, the end.

All The President's Men - Just perfection. Redford and Hoffman are so great and I loved the direction. Completely engaging. 10/10
Agreed. Excellent film.

Want to add that Redford reminds of Brad Pitt.

Not really a typical Lynch movie. But yes, afterwards, you should read online where the pilot began and
then when the rest was shot.
LOVE that film.

Where's this at? Because the last 20 minutes of that movie was ridiculous...The movie was building up a slow road to insanity, but then Lynch took it up another nutty notch...

Hurt Locker [Finally] - Really enjoyed it, worth the hype in my opinion

Book of Eli - Fun, moved along quickly enough, thought the action scenes were done very well

Inception - Loved it, loved it, loved it

Scott Pilgrim - Loved the books, quite enjoyed the movie [though prefer the books ending].....specifically thought the fight scenes were put together in a fantastic manner.

Ip Man tonight....cant wait!

Better Than Chocolate - Don't know how they came to that name as there is not much chocolate in it. Ok movie about a lesbian couple finding their love. It has a made for movie vibe to it but has nudity.

Ponyo - What a let down. First part was great so I thought it would live up to the greatness of other Ghibli films but it just begin getting worse and worse. I never find my self questioning animated movies but after while I just could not help it. Like why the hell is the kid calling his parents by the first names? All that flooding and no one died? What happens when she grows up? Was this a love story or a friendship story? If it was just one question lingering I could let it go but they just kept mounting up. Terrible.

That is the best description of anything ever.

I have been watching the wrong kind of shows.

The Red Baron: Great movie. Wasn't expecting to see WWI Aerial Warfare as being fought in classy manner, while at the same time WWI Trench Warfare= hell. Don't really know much about WWI. Wish they had more dogfights in it.

Deadgirl: It's different I'll give it that.:lol The fact that they keep "IT" in the boiler room for... is just sick. xP

Worlds Greatest Dad:
Hilarious. The way the fake suicide note makes the entire school react is gold.xD Even more so considering the son was such an unlikable pervert.

Day of the Dead(2008): Not really a straight up remake of the original, and definitely not as good as the original. But it was fun enough to watch. An OK zombie movie.

Mother (2009). Pretty good.

The Battle of Red Cliff - Pretty epic. I would have liked to see the 4 hour version instead. Very interesting with plenty of action. I found it easy to follow until the final battle which got a bit confusing after the fire boats, when they were on land.

The full version is just a lot more melodrama.

Scott Pilgrim - I couldn't care less about the source material or Cera, but this movie was very well made and entertaining. Visually arresting, lots of great moments. Definitely see it.

Restrepo - Excellent war documentary; camera crew is embedded with a small Army outpost in Afghanistan. Very compelling; no obnoxious narration or contextualization, allows the viewer to experience what is happening and come to their own conclusions. Very glad I saw it.

A Prophet - Saw it a few months ago, but I still think its the best movie I have seen this year. Very well presented story of an Arab guy being imprisoned in France. Turns into a mob story. Goddamn great movie.

Just saw that as well...damn that was a good movie.

Amadeus: 5/5 I saw this a long time ago, and didn't remember much, but seeing it again it really is an amazing film. Abraham and Hulce make for one of the best duos in film I've seen. Hulce's ridiculous giggle also never ceased to make me laugh. The film was pretty much everything you could hope for, from funny and intelligent to sad and tragic. Salieri is such a great character, and the death bed scene was hypnotic, and I don't even know shit about music.

By the way, I watched the director's cut, is there any consensus is it noticeably better or worse than the theatrical cut? (Although, from what I understand, the theatrical cut seems to be the real director's cut).

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou: 2.5/5 Not really sure what I'm supposed to think about this. There were several funny moments, and I guess it's pretty clever, but it just felt like an overlong joke. Bill Murray is always charming to watch and it's pretty much the only thing that kept me interested. Got an extra 0.5 for this dance.

Cold Mountain: 4/5 Overall, I feel this is probably quite an underrated film. It's not as good as Minghella's best (The English Patient), but still great, and beautiful to look at. I can see where some criticism came from for it keeping the leads apart for most of the movie, but to me it's an interesting way to approach the war disrupting lives stuff and to have something to hold on to even when things go to shit. I'm also a sucker for epic and tragic love stories (tear). I really liked the performances. The supporting characters were great as well, especially Philip Seymour Hoffman as the creepy priest, shame he died so soon.

The Switch - Surprisingly decent movie. I love Bateman and there is very little chemistry with him and Aniston but the scenes with his son were great. Patrick Wilson had a nice supporting role as did Jeff Goldblum. Decent date movie. 6.5/10

I'd say that The Pianist is the antithesis of Schindler's List, in that it doesn't slap you about the face with melodrama. At times Schindler's List almost tries too hard to tug at the heart strings, whereas The Pianist was more subdued, devoid of sentimentality and, in my opinion, an all-round better film for it.

I really love The Pianist, but it doesn't even begin to approach the level of mastery displayed in Schindler's List for me. The only scene in Schindler's List that I think is too sentimental/sugary is the 'I could have saved more' scene near the end. Outside of that the film is flawless.

I like the Director's Cut more because Amadeus is one of my all time favorite movies, and with the Director's Cut you get more movie. Fuck flow, fuck pacing, it's just more Amadeus, how could that be a bad thing? Also: tits.

Dead Girl is pretty twisted, but I liked it. What made it even better was I had no idea what the movie was about beforehand.
When the crazy friend was freaking out over what he did to the girl, I thought it was going to be a thriller about them trying to cover up a murder. Had no idea it was a zombie flick.

I like it as well, it's different, and does something in a horror film that I haven't seen yet.
I kind of figured, she was a zombie with the name and all. What creeped me out was how enamored the crazy friend was with her.Instead of trying to help his first thought was, "lets keep her hear for some fun". I doubt he even tried to clean her up. D: Really twisted, and there's enough zombie rape in this movie to make Pyramid Head blush.

Saw a couple of movies

Book of Eli - It was much better than expected. As strange as the concept was, it seemed like the most straightfoward Hughes Brother movies. Big problem for me was Kunis who should have been much uglier than she was. It was so distracting that I started to assume that she represented an angel or something.

Percy Jackson - This was also better than expected although it could have been better if it didn't feel so low budget. It would have been a good series, but as it was I don't see it continuing. Methinks Chris Columbus has lost his touch since Harry Potter.

I would say The Pianist is completely devoid of any emotion. I felt nothing watching it.

I wanted to enjoy it, but inconsistent logic just made it unbearable.

Just watched Rocky Balboa. Awesome.

Just watched Antichrist.......WHAT IN THE BLUE HELL WAS THAT???

I am pretty sure Lars Von Trier didn't know what the hell it was either which is why it turned out the way it did. Har har har mar superstar or something.

Wow. Not even when he got to play piano again for that german soldier?

The Pianist was just the better film for me. And more emotional too. I guess it helps that Polanski was a holocaust survivor, so it makes the film-making that much more personal maybe.

Dude, are you a psych major? If so, so much to analyze. So much symbolism and depth. It is a true artistic work, and through all the weird and fucked up shit there is a surprising amount of humanity. The more I thought about the movie after I watched it, the more I loved it.

So much to think about.

Freakin great. I remember a couple of years ago seeing this in Blockbuster and thinking to myself it must be some lame b-horror movie given the production label of the dvd. Man i cant believe it was actually amazing. It was like a mix of Silence of the Lambs with some psychological thriller. There is actually very little gore in it, as it is mostly dramatic in tone.

Definitely recommend it, a wonderful surprise.

Yeah I just finished watching it right now. Awesome. Trying to put together what happened and why... been a long time since a film made me do that.

I reviewed it a little ways back. I loved the film but felt completely betrayed by the ending. How about you?

i take it you were hoping he would go through with killing his son? I enjoyed the twist that the guy actually lied just to fuck with the father, i was kind of indifferent to the father having an 'experience' and not going through with it. I at least thought there was some good emotion at the end.
