Seen this a fews days ago, reeally good film.
Also watched this!

My 2nd favorite Pixar film, right behind Ratatouille. The subtle touch of Russel's
parent's divorce
was so well done. Definitely a must see. The visuals were amazing, as well as the soundtrack.

Saddest film I've ever had the pleasure of viewing. I cannot wait to see the sequel.

audition-cover-1.jpg

Oh LORD above us, this movie is so sick and disturbing. I love it though, I haven't been this creeped out in ages.

3-Iron_poster1.jpg

Most well paced movie I think I've ever seen. I love every minute of it. Such a great story.

the_room_poster.jpg

Watched it for kicks, ya know. The idea that this guy is serious is beyond me.

Spoilers:

Just finished watching District 9, which I've been dying to see for some time now. My lame friends didn't want to go to the theater so I had to wait for the blu ray.

district9poster.jpg

I loved it, and I disagree with people saying it's got pacing problems. Main character Wikus is an annoying fuck (or 'foock') in the beginning, but becomes all kinds of awesome later on - and then out of nowhere he re-pussifies when he realises he's too cool (The 'Save yourself, go on without me' bit was 100% ass)

But yeah, other than that; great stuff. Will watch it again some time soon. The movie had some crazy deathscenes / gore and is quite original.

I must admit I didn't really get that - the latter part (snooty dude = devil) makes sense, but Johnny being Jesus - I must've not picked up him being specifically pissed off with his father. He just seemed discontent with everything and everybody.

I thought the scene with the night guard was really interesting. Also, with the girl from the cafetaria, how that developed was downright scary and bizarre. So was Jeremy's laugh, by the way. Christian Bale got one-upped seven years before he did AP.

Yeah, that moment is the best. The interesting thing about Thewlis' character is that he's a shit, but the reason he's a shit is because he's too empathetic -- the world's pain gives him pain so he lashes back at it.

Watched on Netflix instant queue last night. I'm in love with Sally Hawkins. That is all. :D Oh, and the film was great as well. Made me all happy!

4months3weeks%262days_poster.jpg

And then I followed it up with this, also on Netflix instant queue, which turned my smile upside down. An absolutely soul-shattering film. This is the first Romanian film I've ever seen and I'm glad I started with it. The controlled direction (awesome long takes), engaging story, and believable acting worked so well to create a stunning and devastating film. Highly recommended. Both films.

Both of these films were in my top 3 last year. It would be suspicious if you also watched My Winnipeg (4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days didn't even get a NY/LA release until Jan 20th of 2008 so suck it for people who say it is a 2007 release).

GODZILLA 1991 (with Matthew Bodrderick).

watching this in retrospect made it seemed really really funny. Ah emmerich and his "disaster" movies.

a) hero running on car (here and in DAT)

b) talk about refugees from the disaster (here and in DAT)

c) CG carnage + people staring on (here and in any number of emmerich movies)

d) cars flying at the cameras

all here. quite funny to rewatch.

I always thought it would be hilarious if the chorus to "Waterfalls" by TLC played right when the credits begin to roll.

I have absolutely no idea what to think about this film. I liked it as I watched it, but I have no idea what to think about the ending. Has anyone seen this and could provide me with answers?

Great film. All the important action of the film takes place outside of the frame.

I'm not in the typing mood right now so I'll just rate the movies I have seen recently...

Moon - 9/10
Paranormal Activity - 7/10
Funny People - 2/10
Terminator Salvation - 4/10
Transformers Revenge of the Fallen - 3/10
Year One - 5/10

Very very disappointing. GAF had me really hyped for this film - especially when many said it bests Carpenter's Halloween - the movie wasn't terrible per se - it was just, most of the tales in the film were executed poorly to me - some of it had potential - like the
bus driver's plot to kill the kids
- that was pretty cool, but the rest of it, especially the twist about the
werewolves
felt silly to me. Not my type of horror flick. Though it was good to see Brian Cox again!

Hayden is hot. cute. Etc, etc. With videogaming and movies taking up enough of my free time, i couldn't bother with TV shows so i couldn't catch her on Heroes. Thought this film would be the perfect way to see her shine, and how could it go wrong with Colombus helming? VERY wrong apparently. The plot was not funny when it tried to be, too cliched that you'd think it was made by some dorks in college who lack creativity, Paul Rust was lifeless and dull, and - movie or not - it gives the COMPLETELY wrong message to the "nice guys" - it gives them false hope in this movie, just watch it and you'll realize how full of shit it is from that perspective. Way too fake, even for a rom-com. But despite all that, it was good to see Hayden.

The_Last_House_On_The_Left_Promotional_Poster.jpg

Wasn't bad at all actually, i enjoyed it - especially the first 60-70% of it - then it just gets silly - especially the ending - the last scene - was completely unnecessary and felt forced, based on the character(s) that commit what they do.
yes, i know their daughter was raped brutally and nearly killed - im just saying that based on Goldwyn and Potter's characters in the film - it just didn't feel like placing the dude to have his head explode on the microwave was something they'd do.

Oh and it has that little kid from Gladiator all grown up now :lol Though my favorite thing about the whole film:

paxton08.jpg

So. So. Beautiful. Reese is possibly the hottest celebrity for me. And she reminds me of Reese a LOT. Sometimes I think Sara is even prettier. <3 <3 <3

3.5/5 (for the movie)
5/5 (for Sara Paxton)

Couples_retreat.jpg

With an all-star cast featuring Favreau, Vaughn, Akerman, Bell, Bateman, Reno - this should have been a lot better. It wasn't funny much at all - Vaughn was a lot funnier in Four Christmases - here he's surprisingly...normal. Favreau is funny enough, but the rest disappoint - especially Bateman - though given his character in the film, i don't blame him too much. Could have been a lot better, but enjoyable nevertheless.

This film will probably get thrashed to death by the critics and GAFfers - its not very original - but i just REALLY liked it. It was effective, scary in parts, interesting, messed up in parts, and for once - an ending to a horror movie that didn't turn it to complete crap - like almost every other horror film i watch these days. Very good stuff! And it feels weird to see Bradley Cooper in a non-comedic role - but he's good, i like his acting very much.

Isn't this from the director of Funny Games? Man while i really appreciate the idea of the important stuff happening off screen (its downright effective!) i HATED that film. So I don't know if i would bother with this one, especially after he remade Funny Games, which was just as bad event though Tim Roth and Naomi Watts are awesome actors.

I finally got around to watching Transformers 2, but for the first time in ages I just couldn't finish the film. The acting was god awful, the story was shit, and the Transformers where annoying. I burst out laughing a few times though, the biggest laugh I got was
the fembot with a scorpion tail

What a fucking travesty it is that this made so much money.

Also continued my Korean film fest with The Good The Bad and the Weird and I watched Memories of Murder again.

The Good the Bad and the Weird was amazing, it's really weird seeing so many awesome films within such a short period of time. The actor who played the Bad was such a awesome actor, and Kang-ho Song is slowly becoming one of my favorite actors. I then watched Memories of Murder again, and loved every second of it for the second time. I am having a hard time trying to articulate what I like so much about it, but it's one of the films that just stays with me and I will just think about it throughout the day.

Recently watched The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. While this wasn't the first time I'd seen it, I enjoyed it a lot more this time. This has also happened with movies such as This is Spinal Tap and A Mighty Wind. I guess the common element is that the comedy is pervasive and conversation-based throughout, rather than being full of punches?

Kro-Bar and Lattis's attempts to fit in as Earthlings with the names Bammin and Turgaso strike me as particularly futile.

:lol damn....I remember being so disappointed with that movie. Went to see it first day & all. It's on Netflix Streaming, so maybe I should watch it again.

The Life Aquatic: This was my second viewing. I was kind of lukewarm on the film when I first saw it, but this time it just "clicked". Wonderful movie. 9/10

The Darjeeling Limited: Watched this immediately after Life Aquatic. I enjoyed it, but some the heavy handed metaphors grated on me a little. 8/10

Paranormal Activity: Enjoyable, but very anticlimatic. Some spooky stuff using some very simple techniques.

Noroi: The Curse: Really enjoyed this. I found it scarrier than Paranormal Activity. It's a little known Japanese horror done in the docu style about a journalist investigating strange occurances. Some wonky CGI in parts, but I was engrossed all the way to the chilling end. 8.5/10

I just got back from 2012. It was a pretty fun popcorn movie and i'm not quite sure why it's getting so much hate, all the cliches made it that much better.

I saw D9 last week, excellent movie. I like that the majority here are recommending films I've never heard of. I love the few indie/foreign films I have seen, so I'm always open to watching more. The Hollywood formula bores me, generally speaking.

Whoa, Noroi sounds interesting, never heard of it! Japanese horror freaks me out more than anything else- The Ring and the Grudge scare the shit out of me!! Though the American version of the Ring felt much scarier and better to me. Will try to give this a look!

By the way, you forgot to score Paranormal Activity :P

take_the_money_and_run-350x518.jpg

Take the Money and Run - *** No where as funny as I remembered it (I think last time I watched it was in middle school) but still had its charm and some classic hilarious moments even though it isn't anywhere near Allen's more consistent comedies.
Black%20Lizard.jpg

Black Lizard - *** I've been wanting to see this film for a while now and lucky enough a video store here in Austin had it on VHS. Way overhyped sadly but a nice romp. I was expecting Hausu levels of craziness with super surreal moments but instead it felt like this amusing quirky somewhat bizarre detective story. Worth watching if you can find it.

I just watched 2012 this past week. The movie was... alright. It was predictable, really good special f/x naturally. Nothing I'd write home about or buy on blu-ray.

twilight-us-dvd.jpg

Being a huge fan of the fantasy/fiction genre (pretty broad description I know :lol ) I've always been interested in seeing Twilight due to the fact that it seemed so foreign to me. I mean usually my taste gear toward more darker themes (usually Cyberpunk) as well as more blue-sky adventure anime. I was pretty put off with it from all of the mixed reviews I've heard about it. Some people said it was pretty good, others said it was one of the worst films of all-time. After a while I decided that I should see the film and judge it for myself instead of listening to others.

And honestly...it was pretty good. It certainly wasn't the masterpiece that some people hang it up to, but it definitely wasn't the atrocity that other people made it out to be. I just found it to be your typical blockbuster film. I originally found the whole premise of a girl moving to a small town that had vampires to be really awkward to me but it became more leveled and believable as time went on. I was a little uncomfortable with how the school setting was handled but got used to it as well. I can't point it out but there was something I really enjoyed in this film. I guess that I found it to have spunk or verve in a way.

The biggest negative factor in the film was the fact that they tried to cram a long book into 2 hour film. It really reminded me of how Watchmen did the same thing.

Overall it was a pretty good film and I found it to be your average blockbuster. However I found something special about this film that I can't quite put my finger on that I enjoyed.

le samourai - oozes cool from every orifice

the proposition - beautifully shot, and totally bleak. also it reminded me of blood meridian, so now i can't wait for the road this wed

wow, i need to sleep on this before i can figure out all my thoughts. the 'dance' scene was brilliant - that's easy enough. the characters aren't really likable but they are relatable, oddly enough.

if this is godard's most accessible, i'm going to ease my way into his more obscure stuff...

totally romantic without ever suffering from the flaws that make 'chick flicks' so unbearable. eckhart and carter do bang up jobs and the novel way the film is shot is fantastically done.

Monsters, Inc. I haven't seen this movie in awhile. I forgot how good it was! It's actually making me rethink my Best Pixar Movie Listing.

I choked up like 4 times throughout the movie. :lol 5/5

Pandorum - entertaining sci-fi flick. Nice surprise twist at the end just when you thought the twists had ran out.

Saw IV - big surprise - cutting take on the US healthcare system and far, far better then I was expecting

Inglorious Basterds - not bad...far too long and the Basterds are hardly in it.

Up! - yes I had a tear after 10 mins...I admit. Blub!

Lars von Trier's Antichrist

CHAOS REIGNS

I'm no buff of horror, but this is one of the most effective and thought-provoking films I've ever seen from the genre. This movie has created polarizing reactions from critics, with many labeling it misogynistic. I believe that's a very shallow way to look at the film's meaning, and even if Antichrist is misogynistic, it's hard to ignore that it's an extremely powerful and beautiful film (in its ugliness). A lot of critics are had trouble stomaching the explicit sexual violence, which are at points almost unbearable to watch. But to that I have to ask, isn't horror supposed to make you feel unnerved?

The seeker: the dark is rising

Didn't know anything about this movie just went in and watched it. Boring and cheap. Not worth a watch.

READ THE BOOKS ! Seriously: they vandalised a series of classic, life-changingly wondrous fantasy books.

I watched:

Blame it on Fidel !, a 2006 French comedy about a girl whose parents convert to radical left-wing politics and campaign for Allende. Every woman in this film is utterly gorgeous, and the child actors are beyond superb. Wonderfully written, picturesque from start to finish. Stars Julie Depardieu.

A list of movies I've seen in the past couple weeks:

GIJoe
Impostor
Jacob's Ladder
Shaun of the Dead
Paranormal Activity
The taking of Pelham 123
The Fly
Triumph of the Nerds
Up
Flight Plan
Rendition
National Treasure 2
Slumdog Millionaire

I have waiting for me on my desk:
Jesus Camp
Reservoir Dogs
Fire in the Sky
Brokeback Mountain

I watched Funny People and thought it was pretty good but not great. There was just something about it that I can't quite place that didn't allow it to be as great as I wanted it to be.

And I watched The Girlfriend Experience and that was a pretty all around bummer. Not the kind of movie I need to be watching right now. It was interesting though.

You should check out Melville's Army of Shadows. It's similarly awesome.

I just rewatched The King of Comedy. I remember when I first saw it I thought it was one of the most unnerving films I had ever seen. I still feel that way. There is no other film I can think of that is able to sustain continuous nervous laughter from myself. It is incredibly funny and awkward at the same time. You just want De Niro's character to STOP. Such a terribly underrated film and frankly one of Marty's most intimidating.

Got back from watching "New Moon", and wow this movie is bad.

Short Story: It's just like how people said Twilight supposedly was. Horrid execution, cheesy/fake scenes involving lust and romance, stupid drama, and overall just awkward.

Long Story (contains HUGE spoilers): After watching Twilight I was a bit surprised to see how good it was. I was excited in watching this and I ended up ridiculously disappointed.
First off the whole thing is just a jumbled up mess. I can't even begin to digest what the main plot going on was. This most likely because everything was put together so horridly bad. Edward leaves Bella for no reason out of nowhere. The film gave absolutely zero build up to this. Actually 30 seconds prior to this it was nothing but scenes of romance between Bella and Edward, so how and why in the fuck would he want to leave her? After that follows a bunch of terrible "leaving pain" scenes. Every time she screamed in her sleep scared the shit out of me. I was jumping in my theater seat. But what annoyed me most about this was how a ghost-like Edward always popped up whenever Bella was about to do something dangerous. Cliche much?

The movie sorta picks up when (kinda) she finds a new love interest in Jacob. Why do I say "kinda"? Because it's all so sudden. One minute he's simply a friend that she helps making bikes with, the next he practically says he loves her in a movie theater and promises that he won't hurt her. I mean what the fuck? Then a matter of Jacob joining the wolf clan and struggling between being himself and being wolf soldier comes into play that really spices things up for the movie. Or it would have if they would explain just what the fuck is going on. I mean seriously the guy went from being a nice good kid to some headstrong anti-social. Yes he has now join the fight for the wolf clan...but why? And why has his personality changed so much in the first place? It's not like he was unaware of Edward being a vampire and what not.

After some time I not only got used to, but actually enjoyed the lack of Edward in the film. It seemed that the series was moving on from the "I'm a human and I'm a vampire, and we're in a relationship" focus. But right when the film had become settled enough to have me forget how much of a mess the first quarter was, bam there's a phone call from Edward and it turns out that he's going to try to get himself executed. Now Bella and his sister are traveling to Rome to try and stop Edward from killing himself. This was so abrupt I don't even know where to begin.

About 5 minutes in the setting of Rome, the saving of Edward, the elite group of vampires a strange feeling came over me. I was being...entertained, something I felt much during Twilight. This is how I should have felt during the whole movie. I was being entertained because what was going on screen was not only interesting but was fleshing out the world of the series as well. Toward the end of the movies conclusion Edward states why he left in the first place. "So you could have a normal life", okay not only is this cliche as fuck but he never showed much thought of this before. Jacob and Edward start fighting over her. Now this would be interesting if there was (really any) previous chemistry between Bella and Jacob. Because of that it just makes it have very little sense. But no that isn't what ruins the ending as well as the last quarter of the film. What ruins it is the very end. The movie ends with Edward asking Bella if she would marry him and the screen turns black and the movie ends. ...are you fucking shitting me? She's going to be bitten and turned in to a vampire, Jacob as well as the other wolf clan are going to hunt her down and kill her (as well as practically all her friends), that Victoria bitch is still tracking her down (to kill her I might add), and she's going to be a god damn vampire. Why would her getting married to Edward be such a big deal? And why would he ask her that in the first place? Where's the build up?

I had no idea why this one was so worse than the first until the first credit popped up. A new director. I guess the publisher wasn't happy that Twilight wasn't as universally praised as most other big budget action-adventure films and hired a new director who ended up doing a terrible job. There's a reason why adventure series are so hard to do. They require much detail within the world and the events and characters within it. They require razor sharp quality pacing and storytelling to not confuse or bore the audience. Unfortunately "New Moon" completely missed this. So much was unexplained/uncovered. Why not more info and background on the whole Vampire vs Werewolf situation? Why is Victoria really so obsessed with Bella and why is she such a thread anyway? She can't even overpower the pack of wolfs. Why would it matter if she's chasing Bella? Jacob or any of the other wolfs can just tear her apart (literally). The point of a villain is that they have evil intentions and are far more powerful than the heroes that they pose such a huge threat. What's going on with Jacob? Why is he so antsy? Actually what about the werewolves in general? Why do they have the temper of Vegeta from Dragonball Z and why do they go into wolf form when they become angry? Also how fleshed out is this elite order of vampires and do the werewolves have this to? New Moon really failed to deliver in explaining a lot of what was going on in the film.

There was a good movie in here somewhere, there really was. The main premise was really good and could have held a true title of being a "bigger and better part 2/sequel". Unfortunately the director wasn't up to the task. Everything was so abrupt and not fleshed out that the whole movie just had a stupid and awkward feeling to it. You know the film is bad when you have a large portion of the audience laughing at it during parts that aren't meant to be funny, such was the result in the theater I went to anyway.

Overall: Bad, which is very sad because there was so much potential.

Yeah, that's exactly the impression I got. Scorsese has said that he thinks Rupert Pupkin was DeNiro's best performance with him, and while I'm not sure I agree, it's probably his most underrated work.

A few things I've seen recently:

Precious: Saw this last night, wasn't blown away as many people seemed to have been. The performances were absolutely great, for sure, but the script was just too overbearing and trite. After the first 10-20 minutes, I was kind of feeling like "okay, I get it already."
Public Enemies: Went in with low expectations, was still bored by it. :lol It just feels so lifeless and wasn't nearly as exciting or poignant as it could have been. On an odd note, I loved the way the guns sounded. The gunfights themselves were nothing memorable, but I thought they sounded cool regardless. :lol
Angels & Demons: Just the opposite of PE, I went in with low expectations, came out somewhat entertained by it. It's stupid as hell, but it's at least an improvement over the Da Vinci Code.
