Good movie. Doesn't compare to both movies you mentioned, though.

WOW, this movie is amazing!!! It reminded me a lot of City of God, which is definitely a good thing. The soundtrack was amazing too, but overall this movie left me mindblown by how well it was made.
Blasphemy!!

De Palma is a genius. Sure, he has a couple stinkers, but damn.

Body Double, Dressed to Kill, Femme Fatale, and Blow Out might improve your understanding of his work.

Pretty much. This guy is Hitchcock's illegitimate lovechild. He's clearly not as talented as the man, but he has made some very very worthy thrillers and well shot too. The man has cinema knowledge up the wazooooo.

And honestly, so fucking offensive to compare that Boondock Saints trash to Scarface. Not even close. Plus Scarface is more quotable and not insufferably shit. Everytime I think of Saints, I think of Ed Hardy and junior high school kids who listed Memento as the deepest film they've ever seen alongside Fight Club. And Boondock Saints as the most 'badass'.

smh. I'll take the rap culture ironically glorifying Tony Montana over that.

Nah it isn't. I like Memento don't get me wrong. But fuck that shit, it aint better than DePalma's thrillers. I aint holding it's fanbase against it though like I do with Fight Club (lawl). But it's just an observation. I remember all the young'ns listing Memento as their favorite movie. Back in the day.

memento is a better thriller than anything de palma's done
Memento is no way comparable to any of De Palma's work...It's in a different genre altogether. I agree with Disco, the same people that enjoy Boondock Saints are of the same variety that think Gran Torino is the best thing Eastwood's ever done.

Gran Torino was the funniest thing Eastwood's ever done though. It was better comedy than that movie where he teams up with a chimp. I hope they make a sequel a few years down the line with that hilarious asian kid exacting vengeance.

I'm not going to agree that Momento makes de Palma's career look like a joke (what?), but Gran Torino isn't that bad. Come on, guys.

I mean yes, the non-actors couldn't act very well and yes, "lol he's singing," but it's not a bad film.

Lay off that crack-pipe son. Gran Torino's the real joke around here. I love Eastwood, but what was he thinking with that one? End song sounded like Kermit the Frog covering NIN Hurt or something.

Agree with you on DePalma though, he's on the real high level there. Next=level

Tron Looked fantastic, but the movie itself was too shallow. Popcorn movie, but entertaining enough for one view.

Fulltime Killer Talked about this in the Asian movie thread, but might as well post here too. Idea was good but implementation was bad. Too much pointless action scenes that were directed poorly. Was expecting Woo, got poo.

The Man from Nowhere Excellent, brutal, raw korean action flick with fantastic character cast. Plot twists made me angry (in a good), but main character delivers plenty of satisfaction in terms of violence.

Ip Man Minor cheezy political messages and plot points aside, this was a nice film. Action scenes are really well done and the whole film keeps you entertained.

Edit: Gran Torino A very down to earth movie. I like the characters and the way scenes were depicted from Eastwoods grumpy old guys point of view. Not spectacular but a good Eastwood movie non the less.

Just because De Palma has made a career of trying to ape Hitchcock movies doesn't qualify him as an "illegimate lovechild". That title would imply that he has even an ounce of the talent Hitch had.

Which he does. The movies Dookake listed pretty much confirm it. They're all excellent. People hold his bad films against him way too much. Yes his recent career has been really crap, but the man is still a great director, no doubt about it.

Yo son...

Wild at Heart - What the fuck is David Lynch on when he makes these films? I need twenty laughing smileys to put it in this review. The way this film ends makes absolutely no logical sense, and all of the supernatural shit has very little to do with anything, it's just there for poops and giggles. Cage's horrible accent is hilarious, as is all of the bizarre shit that the characters imagine in the film. I have to say though as a source of pure entertainment this is one of Lynch's best films, if not the best. This movie is just all over the place, so many laughably bad parts, and a few that make you think of what this film could have been had Lynch toned down the insanity. It's melodramatic, irrational, cheesy, and yet somehow I couldn't turn away. During its high points it kinda reminds of a Jim Jarmusch movie.7/10

Lethal Weapon 1 & 2.

The first one was on TV last week, then I remembered I had it. No ads yay!

Great films, Gibson is so perfectly crazy, especially the first.

Boondock Saints is the Ed Hardy of film. I only brought up Memento because my psychological study of fellow colleagues in junior high raised a pattern of boondock saints, fight club and memento in their favorite movies of all time list.

Boondock Saints is pure tripe. If you like it, I most likely wouldn't like you.

Not aimed toward anyone, I just see the movie being talked about, and I think its shit on every level.

I have to say that's a rather close-minded thing to say...When I first came into this thread I had a huge disagreement with someone about the use of gore in films, I believe it was Harson. I used to think that anyone that liked films like Hostel, Saw, or Cannibal Holocaust had deplorable taste, but then it turned out that we had somewhat comparable taste when it came to other genres of film.

Awesome flick. Love Cage's apology to the hoodlums.

I am sure that someone nicer and more patient than I will explain the relatively simple sequence of steps involved in the ownage-delivery-via-hypocrisy-exposure.

I like it but more because of how much of a joke it is. People that think it is actually great and anyway comparable to Tarantino make me laugh though.

EDIT: Clapton on guitar, no wonder the music in that movie is so damn good.

Yep, I remember as a kid that broke me up completely.

LW1&2 are the best because those are the only movies in which Riggs is actually a Lethal Weapon. After being somewhat 'cured' at the end of the first, you can see the revenge for his wife and Rika in 2 gives him that crazy look in his eyes again.

3 & 4 just had regular Riggs bandying about.

This is why I was so psyched when I heard Shane Black wrote a script for Lethal Weapon 5. I would give my right nut to read it. (He wrote LW and the story for LW2).

Well really, LW4 ended things rather neatly (the film was shit though). Kiss Kiss Bang Bang still has room for sequels. But knowing RDJ these days and the way studios work...no chance in hell.

Whatever. Hyped for Shane Black's Russian spy movie. I hope to God Mel Gibson plays the older character.

Eh i think i have made my point clear. Enough of that silly discussion now. Dookkake gets a point for brainfucking the crowd once again.

I probably missed your response. Was on my phone at the time.

I actually enjoyed the fight, but wasn't that a big criticism against the film? How two-toooldforthisshit guys manage to wreck Jet Li?

Never heard anybody bad mouth that fight.

The criticisms mostly come from it being too much of a comedy and including Chris Rock.

were there ever buddy cop movies with two cops who actually were too old for that shit? i'd see it if they have the chemistry gibson & glover had. those guys were so good together. i loved that moment they had in maverick.

The problem that most other buddy cop movies that tried to ape LW encountered was that they would usually play up the race card.

The greatness of the Lethal Weapon films is that the chemistry and hilarity comes from their odd-couple dynamic. That and yes, how fucking good their chemistry is together, like a married couple, like brothers.

They are fully fleshed out characters too, instead of just acting like stereotypes.

I kept watching noirs today:

I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang (1932)
Was a bit like a earlier version of Cool Hand Luke. I like prison stories in general so i found it quite enjoyable. The moral of the story felt a bit forced but i can imagine back in the days a film like this was necessary to make some people think about the chain gang issue.

Rififi (1955)
Great film as expected. Got a bit too predictable in the second half for my taste but that's the only nitpick that i have. I always was under the wrong impression that Humphrey Bogart was in it because of the guy on the movie poster. Was waiting and waiting for his appearence and wondering if he will speak French or English lol.

Yeah I pretty much feel the same way. I have 3 & 4 sitting at home but I don't know if I should just have the first 2 fresh in my memory and leave it at that, or watch the rest...
