Bigger than their launches, not what they've managed in the time since then.TL4E said:Considering the Kinect is limited to those who already have a 360, I seriously doubt this is going to be bigger than the 360 itself (or the Wii etc.).
Just doesn't sound right...Gadfly said:Pictures of human right abuse (even in the context of making a point) are never funny. it doesn't matter if the subject of abuse is a kid or a woman or a black person.
I realize that. But only those who have the 360 can use the Kinect. Therefore anyone without a 360 would have to buy both a 360 and Kinect which is quite the investment and so most people who buy the Kinect at all will already have bought a 360.Psychotext said:Bigger than their launches, not what they've managed in the time since then.
Redbeard said:MOVE controllers are going to sell more than Kinect worldwide from their respective launches until the end of the year (YTD sales).
Kinect's potential for sales is really only in the US and UK, Kinect will be be a gigantic bomb in mainland Europe and Japan. Sony has decent traction in all markets.
Outside of a select few, the hardcore base on the Xbox 360 won't be as willing to support Kinect as the hardcore base on the PS3 supports the Move.
The fact that Kinect doesn't genuinely offer anything new or better than what can be experienced on, say, the Wii is also going to work against its favor. It's most definitely not going to be the hot holiday item, nor will it be the best selling consumer electronic device this holiday.
What's worse is that Kinect really only has a few months where it will even be able to boast moderate success. After the holidays are up, Kinect sales will drop significantly.
As a "platform launch", or a "new console launch", Kinect will be an abysmal failure if those are Microsoft's expectations.

Hey, I said shit in a box will move a few units, didn't I?chubigans said:Sure worked well for the Kin! I saw a ton of commercials for that thing.
jling84 said:I think it will get plenty of support. I would say the Kinect already looks to have better 3rd party support than the Wii. However, the huge advantage the Wii has over Kinect is Nintendo 1st party support.
I guess SONY will mention the sales at some point.DangerousDave said:Also... how do you count a Move sale? Not only the bundle, because there is a lot of people with PSEye (specially in Europe). But if you count it by controller, you'll get duplicated sales from people who buy two or more controllers.
No doubt whoever has bigger sales at the time will be boasting about it.user_nat said:I guess SONY will mention the sales at some point.
A game like Sports Championship will probably attain a very high attach ratio early on and be a decent indicator.

they're selling a kinect bundle too.TL4E said:Considering the Kinect is limited to those who already have a 360, I seriously doubt this is going to be bigger than the 360 itself (or the Wii etc.).

Kinect preorders have a lot to do with MS's confidence and PR about the device's sales potential this fall. They aren't expecting huge sales based on nothing.Redbeard said:It's one thing to be excited and optimistic about the launch of your product.
It's another thing to brag about how you're going to set the sales charts on fire, outselling some of the greatest console launches in history and being the best selling consumer electronics device this holiday period.
They seriously have nothing to brag about as of this point, and whatever comments they make now can only potentially backfire on them.
Nintendo never acted this arrogant prior to the Wii launch. The fact that Microsoft is so self assured in their success to the point of being extremely hyperbolic is a bit sickening, to be honest, above and beyond the usual corporate PR spiel.
