I'm in Cincinnati for a few days for work (then we go to Columbus and Cleveland), and since I have tomorrow off, I'd like to do/see something cool, but I don't know shit about the city (I'm from Texas). I wish it was baseball season, as I'd love to see a Reds game, but since I can't do that, I have no idea.

Any natives on the board? The only thing I've done so far was hit up the aquarium, and that was in Newport.

Aside from Bengals/Reds games there really isn't shit to do in Cinnci from my trips up there. They have a zoo,but I hear it's in the ghetto area :p

Cleveland pwnz your soul though, be sure to go all the way to the bottom past the R&R HOF,the lake is awesome.Reminded me so much of Shenmue on the dock area *nerdy gaming moment* :lol

What's cool in Cleveland?

The Cleveland Museum of Art - It's free to the public and rox.

There's not much else to see in Cleveland proper. Unless you want to visit the Public Library downtown, which is nice; but not very useful unless you take a laptop and rape their CD library.

You can also visit our glorified bus terminal / hobo toilet aka set from Double Dragon the Movie called Tower City. It's a dilapidated collection of overpriced retail stores that the city folk are too poor to shop at, and the suburban workers turn their nose up since they have Best Buy and Wal-Mart's in their backyards.

You may want to check out Coventry and Murray Hill (Little Italy). We really don't have any well organized subculture communities outside of Little Italy. You blink and you'll miss the two blocks of Asians. The Polaks are no longer centralized and the neighborhood is overrun with poor non-Poles, prostitutes, drug dealers, and assholes willing to mug you.

On Coventry you'll find Que Tal! Mexican restaraunt. And the Hunan on Coventry, and some other places to eat if you're hungry.

There's also Big Fun a collectors toy store specializing in old overpriced collectibles. A lot of yuppie shits love this place, but for the most part it's just fun to walk around and remember playing with some of the stuff.

You might want to check out the Lorain Carnegie Bridge, just to get a glimpse of some nifty architecture - which is pretty rare in Cleveland.

All in all, there's not much to see here; excluding tourist trap shitholes like the Rock Hall. That's why it's the Poorest City in America. :X

I'd suggest just spending the day at the Art Museum.

Cincinnati is so much nicer in the Summer, but...

If you're staying Downtown, check out Newport on the Levee, they have nice restaurants, night clubs, aquarium, etc...

Take a drive through Mt. Adams and enjoy a view of the city from Eden Park or have a nice beer at any of the nearby bars.

Tomorrow the Bearcats play at Shoemaker if you like sports.

There's the Krohn Observatory and some great musuems if you're into that kind of stuff.

There's the Argosy casino about 20 miles drive, the Racers, Deja Vu, and Bristol showclubs...

And don't forget to Check out the Mt. Washington Chili, though you being from Texas, you won't be easily impressed...

Oh, I forgot to mention "The Flats". What used to be industrial areas now rennovated to accomodate horny 20 somethings and career alcoholics.

If you're really desperate to meet fat bitches, and see why Cleveland is one of the fattest cities in the Nation; head down there on the weekend.

Whenever I'm back in Cincinnati, I try to hit the following places:

Skyline Chilli @ Ludlow/Clifton, Graeters Ice cream @ Hyde Park, and Mt Adams Fish house.

Then get the hell out of town! :lol

Yeah, I'm a native from Cincy, (and still will be for another 3 1/2 years at least.) If you have a day off, there's some museums and such you can visit; the CAC (Contempary Arts Center downtown) is brand new, as is the Freedom Center but I hear it's kinda depressing. In terms of stuff to do during the nightlife, it's gonna be hard on a weekday night (Thursday should perk up somewhat) but the biggest club scenes are right down on Main Street, and the bar scene in Mt. Adams is pretty nice. Also there's a Hofbrau house in the Newport area which is great too.

I'd meet up as I live in the Clifton area, but you caught me at a bad time; I have exams this week. :( Anyways, before you leave at the very least take a pint of Graeter's ice cream with you.

Any Cincy residents want to hang out with Dark10x and I this weekend? We usually just chill out every other weekend or so. Plus he just got his car replaced so it's be easy to make him drive wherever we want.

Ok, if you're in Cincinnati you have to go to Jungle Jim's. This is not a debatable issue. It's a huge grocery store that sells bizarre items and includes talking animatronic robots, some sort of a movie theatre and a monorail.

Also, drive the 40 minutes northwest to Miami University and just stare at the girls ;-)

If you stop by, I'll even give you a tour of Ben Roethlisberger's old dorm room. And you can touch his sheets.

I use to live 3 blocks from Jungle Jim's. :lol

I was just about to pimp Jungle Jim's myself.

It truly is the greatest grocery store on the face of the planet. You can also add my voice to the throngs recomending Skyline Chili (get at least a four-way, with a Coney on the side) and Graeter's Ice Cream (the Black Rasberry Chip is to die for).

FnordChan, who only visits Cincinnati for the food

p.s. Be sure to watch The Jungle Jim Story in the miniature theatre at the back of the store. Seriously.

Skyline Chili. . . :X

Maybe I should let Sea Manky take it away.

Damn you, TToB, for forcing me to post to OT. >:|

I can say that Skyline Chili serves the finest low-grade baby diarrhea around. I think I'd be more likely to consume Wendy's awful used hamburger soup than eat at Skyline again. At least you can pour the excessive amounts of water off the Wendy's shit and see the CHUNKS OF MEAT and BEANS that are supposed to be in chili. Oh, and one other thing, as well as being thick and chunky, good chili is supposed to be SPICY. If you're utterly unable to handle spicy foods, Skyline's bland meat-paste is for you! I think I'm going to have to fire up the crock pot this weekend just to get rid of the memory's aftertaste. :p

Um, as for recommendations of places to go in Cleveland, I'm not actually a native (which perhaps explains why I haven't got the built-in tolerance for Skyline's sewage that everyone else here does) so the only place I could have suggested was Szechuan House, but they had to close last year because the bitch-ass shopping center they were in fucked them in favor of bringing in more big chain stores. God dammit. >X[

Oh, and Malley's chocolate sucks ass. If for some reason you went on a factory tour, assuming they do that sort of thing, bring a big bag of M&M's.

Jesus, normally it's TToB who is compelled to incessantly bash everything Cleveland has to offer. Who am I, and what have I done with me? :X

oh, go to the jim beam factory and just smell the beam goodness

You can smell that shit from driving on that part of I-75 (or was it I-71?). Either way, it's NASTY. I always hated driving past that crap.

Go there, it's awesome. You would not believe how much it has changed Shog.

One would hope it has changed... Dude, the last time I've been to that place was in 1997, when we were playing VF3 @ Forest Fair mall! I doubt I'll even recognize half of it.

You seriously would not. BTW, Forest Fair is now known as cincinnati Mills. It actually has people who shop there.

Meanwhile, Kenwood has continued its pursuit of the whole "no poor minorities allowed shopping here" guideline.

Hmmm I just got an invitation to present at a conference in Columbus this June

I'm not sure I want to do it... I've been to Cleveland and it does ROCK...

So what's in Columbus?

These conferences suck anyway get stuck in the Hotel doing presentations all day anyway
I'm not sure I will take the offer yet

Columbus is the epitome of modern American city sprawl; there's more strip malls and fast food places than someone can shake a chubby finger at. A lot of the decent neighborhoods, bars, art galleries, record stores, sword shops, etc. can be found on High St. I just moved into an apartment in the Italian Village neighborhood which sits between the Short North bohemian. "gay"borhood and the ghetto part of the campus area and there's always something going on around here.

When in Cleveland, make sure to stop Phnom Pen restaurant on Lorain Ave in the West side. Amazing Cambodian/Thai food with vegi spring rolls that taste like they fell from heaven.

Any Cincinnati arcades that I don't know about? Every one that I know is left sucks. There's about 2 Tekken 4 and 1 VF4 machines amongst them. I'm willing to drive for a while to find a good one.

I haven't been to Forest Fair\Mills in a very long time (saw Star Trek 6 there on my birthday, ah yeah) so I don't know what might be there now.
