My detailed review of COD MW3 campaign

Not really a fan of the direction of these new MW series, they focus a lot more on stealth. I was expecting for at least MW3 to have more bombastic moments, guess they dont do those anymore. Watched through the whole playthrough, man its boring. Feels like its worse than Cold War's campaign. Maybe I'll buy it cheap for zombies. Activision should really make a standalone zombies game.

Just finished it. Very average and uninspired. Pretty much every mission was dull or rehashed from past titles. Too many open spec ops style missions with boring objectives. Terrible set-piece linear missions. Lots of the same guns from Modern Warfare 2. I'm also tired of these characters. Very disappointing.

COD campaigns have always been pretty meh. They have spectacle but always feels so constrained like you have to do things in a certain order or get killed.

Honestly I would never recommend a COD game to someone only interested in the campaign unless it was half price. Just not worth it.

To me the COD campaigns are an after thought and I buy it for the PVP and PVE (when it's good). I usually get well over a 100 hours of game time from the different modes.

The only one that has disappointed me in the last few years is Vanguard which was terrible in all aspects; campaign, multiplayer, and zombies.

Luckily there isn't a single person on this planet that buys cod just for the solo.

3 to 4 hours is still an absolute joke tho.
I buy them for the campaign but only second hand/discounted.

I don't play mp fps. The only mp I did play were Uncharted 4 and last of us ps4.

Guess my beta impressions that it would live up to the Modern Warfare 3 name are pretty on point.

Modern Warfare 3(2011) had the worst campaign, multiplayer and maps of the original MW trilogy by far. This one has the worst campaign, multiplayer and doesn't even have its own maps this go around.
Oh and is almost literally a $70 DLC disguised as a full-fledged, standalone product.

And yet it will still sale through the stratosphere because of name alone.

Damn, I remember when people didn't even know what CoD was. Let's go back to those days. Everything that becomes popularized ends up sucking.

Jackfrags was shilling BF2042 really hard. I think every big "gamer" is bought. I rather believe same random 4chan anon or GAF poster

EDIT:

I love when shills fight
"just dont buy it" says the shill who probably never has to actually buy COD games

Sounds absolutely terrible.

Hopefully MS pull through and change cod to once every 2 to 3 years for campaigns.

Make the multiplayer a platform with regular updates. Sell the campaign separately.

My favorite work by sledgehammer is WW2 by far and also my favorite Call of duty. The game had so many good ideas like a fully 3D modeled HQ lobby where players would meet. The division system to replace perks. The mission system to unlock lootbox instead of mtx.

Meh, didn't expect much, was entertained for a while. I'm more interested in the Zombies mode and multiplayer anyway. Campaign is just something to fiddle with. $100 doesn't make a dent, but the $200 I paid for D4 expecting me and my son to have fun in coop was a lot more wasteful.

Edit: I changed my mind. While the actual gameplay is fine to me, an only three hour campaign is utterly ridiculous, seriously. When I write my Steam review I'm going to let the developers know this is not acceptable by any stretch of the imagination.

A complete playthrough if someone doesnt want to buy it can look through, obviously all the spoilers

wow, it really is 3 hours hahaha

also i just skimmed through, not gonna sit for 3 hours and watch that but it looks like there isn't really any decent set pieces either, just another AC130 mission and a mini warzone open map mission

EDIT: that no russian mission also is soft as shit compared to the controversy of the OG. like why even reference it.

It is absolutely shocking that they call this MW3. The actual MW3 was an epic game with tons of fresh content, one of my favourites in the series. This game seems so cynical.

I buy call of duty games only for the campaign.

Never ever do I play online.

I'll wait for gamepass on this game though as this is just too short.

Gave it a try last night and reached the power plant level, before switching off and playing some DMZ. The evolving missions were cool, but it does feel like the open levels would work far better in co op.

Was alright so far. Although the character faces seem weird and I'm not a huge fan of the open levels. I suppose normally it's 3 years between cod stories releasing. So in 1 year you get maybe 1/2 a normal campaign. Like they said dlc

Seems odd to call this mw3, but I'm starting to get the feeling that the plan is to drag out this epic to far beyond the 3 games we got originally.

Hopefully the multiplayer and zombies will give this some life through the Xmas period but it feels like an average cod (and I loved the original trilogy when they arrived the first time) so far and a bit of a step down from mw2, which was a step down story wise from the mw reboot. If anything the game (so far) feels like black ops 2 to play and not like a mw game if that makes sense

i miss when MW games had some huge setpieces. like russia invading washington dc and you fighting in the white house. does the campaign have anything close to that scale?

They've tried to turn into discount James bond games and have completely lost the war side of the games

A shame as at least the CoD campaigns were usually well put together.

This edition just screams low effort cash in.

Also, to think of all the shooters I could buy for $100, instead of one copy of MW3.

The open levels let you cruise through the campaign. I finished some chapters by just starting next to an objective and then running over to the next point of interest. The mission ends in no time at all.

This is a pretty hilarious trolling of MS by the devs. 70 bucks for a couple hour campaign? They were designing it to the requirements of a GamePass game. Basically saying, this is the type of bullshit that will go on GP in the future. That said, I will certainly play this short shooter game on gamepass since I can finish it in 2-4 early AM gaming sessions

whats more shocking is that cod is still a thing

What's even worse is the fact that if you mention "COD is the same game each year" you'll get people actually defending this by mentioning each minute difference between titles.

I get it, the controls were always good in COD games (best in the biz actually alongside Halo) something which is super important in a twitch -like FPS, you can jump in a MP match in just a couple of seconds but other than that...it's the fast food equivalent of gaming, it's soulless,.made for the ADHD type crowd that has a hard on for anything military.
Not only that but War and violence sell (even to the 10year olds), also, don't forget the l33tness of it all where peeps can show off their e-peen by PRESTIGE-ing® and NO-SCOPING n00bs®.

I seriously, seriously cannot comprehend how these games keep selling like they do every year for the past 15+ years, people should have had their fill years ago...

This and sports games (Maddens/FIFAs/NBA 2K etc) are pretty much a continuous yearly "scam" that the demographic that's addicted to them can't escape, it's basically Stockholm syndrome in gaming form (same with Destiny 1& 2)

I played MW3 beta thinking the game was going to be MW3. Was looking forward to playing Dome and Seatown. The game didn't have ANY MW3 maps... I took a break from CoD for the past 3 to 4 years, I don't understand what's going on in the CoD universe anymore.
Buy Cold War. Thank me later.

3,5 to 4 hour campaign really is shorter than most DLCs.
I'm happy I don't play CoD because €80 for this seems insane.

What's amazing is that Capcom released Separate Ways which is both longer and better put together than this and it cost £7.99! Even if you add on the multiplayer, that's an extra £52 for some old recycled maps and maybe a couple of extra weapons.

I don't like the campaign at all. I am 4 missions in and the best mission was the 1st one. The combat missions are fucking terrible and I hate them. I know the campaign is short but I may not finish it.

Finished it in about 3 1/2 hours, worst campaign I have ever played in the COD franchise and I spent $100 on this

4/10 and I think thats generous

My review lasted about as long as this DLC campaign

Frustrated Jason Segel GIF by NETFLIX

And Charlie gave it a fucking 7

I guess he wants to keep those playtest invites coming

Complete playthrough if anyone just wants to get the idea what happens, not mine btw

Why did you spend $100 on this?
It's Sledge Hammer games. They have consistently made the worse COD games.
And we also knew this was a rushed release. I really hope the ABK acquisition allows the franchise to breathe in the future. 4 hr campaigns and old maps for MP just don't cut it.

Honestly because I will play a decent amount of the MP and get the first battlepass with the vault edition so in the end its ok, I guess
I guess that works out, then. I've always waited a bit on CoD purchases just because of the uncertainty in the product. It's a real gamble going with the deluxe editions in this series.

When I clicked on the full playthrough and saw 3 hours and 39 minutes, I laughed out loud.
The power of next-gen. Must be the faster load times. What a joke, it´s just a small add-on for multiplayer fans.

I don't game much, right now. However, if I purchased this and found this out, I would be done gaming. They find every way to get you to spend money.

If I bought this game I would feel embarrassed and pathetic that I did it. I'm sorry for the folks that actually purchase this stuff. I make good money being retired, but nothing will make me be an idiot and purchase this kind of mess.

Gaming has really declined.

Slap it on recruit finish it and move on.
I have finished every COD campaign on veteran, got to the third mission on this last night died and just couldn't be bothered back to the start with no checkpoints so I just turned it off, this is exactly what I plan on doing, setting 3 hours aside and almost treating it like a chore that needs completing, I want to see what ever story there is and get the goodies for multiplayer and uninstall this shite.

Dude noooo why would you spend that much on this!? I could have warned you after the last campaign.

I am massive fan of the CoD campaigns and I am fucking done with this franchise until they actually try again.

WW2 was pretty sick though Pierson was a terrible character. The rest were great and some of the missions were unbelievable.
Infinite Warfare is the best campaign they've made since World at War. 10/10 all around.
Vanguard has some pretty fucking sick missions though I could give two shits about the characters.
MW 2019 was the last time they actually tried. Some of the missions were actually shocking, gunplay was great and some of the missions were based on real operations such as Benghazi, Libya and the Bin Laden's Compound
Cold War had about 2 or 3 decently cool missions, the safe house was probably the sickest part. Not a fan of it being kinda pro communist though with the one ending.
MW2 2022's campaign was absolute dogshit. I don't give a shit about Ghost's gay ass Halloween mask. The missions blew cock and some of them literally used Warzone assets and maps.
