Editors of Shounen Jump must be crying. All their cash cow franchises besides One Piece are ending soon and they have nothing good enough to replace them.
It is.
Oh man you don't even know
Attack on Titan could have been in Shonen Jump
They screwed up big time on that
Dang. This thread is making me want to go back and read Bleach and Naruto.
So for Bleach the last thing I remember isdoes that sound right? How much have I missed.Main guy getting some badass mask and turning full demon or something. It was against someone really powerful, I remember. During some huge battle.
Naruto I have no idea what the last part is that I read.Sasuke was a bad guy and Naruto was in the process of fighting that organization that Sasuke's brother was part of. I'm sure a LOT has happened. Some guy had a mask with a bunch of swirls on it. Toby? Does thay sound right?
Bleach isn't a cash cow. Bleach is usually in the bottom rankings and sells at best decently, but, mostly poor. It got so bad they canned the anime. I doubt editors are forcing Kubo to keep it up, if anything they're probably pressuring him to finish it ASAP.
Man Tobi was my favorite character until he took the mask off and we find out he is doing all this for a chick who friendzoned him that wanted Kakashi instead....
So why is it considered one of the "big three", then? Does it do better internationally?
So why is it considered one of the "big three", then? Does it do better internationally?
It used to be a lot bigger than it is now, the big 3 at this point is just One Piece. It sells enough for the entire magazine.
There's no such thing as the big 3 in Japan...
Westerners made up that up because at the time bleach, naruto and one piece was what all the kids were reading
So is Slam Dunk.Hunter X Hunter's still technically running.
Now that's crazy talk, and I'm not even a One Piece fan.It is.
The latter. It never was particularly good.I'm still not sure whether or not Part 1 of Naruto is actually good or if Part 2's awfulness made it look a lot better in comparison.
Is this true? Because Shikamaru is the best-written character out of that entire cast.
What about Kuroko's Basketball? What I find shocking is how shounen jump haven't be able to make another mega hit beloved series with a broad appeal like bleach/naruto/one piece/Hxh in the last 10 years now that's pure incompetence, apart from toriko all there new series are have been nothing more then degrading mangas that try to sell on there fan service and have very little to no ambition at all when it comes to there story.
The manga medium would be dead to me if it wasn't for berserk(never read the loli era chapters),jojo,Hxh,one piece and hajime no ippo refusing to end sad thing is there all 10+ years old.
Not the same publisherEdit: @post above: Isn't Fairy Tail the next big thing? I don't really keep up with manga much.

Ignoring Naruto's international take is highly inadvisable.
What about Kuroko's Basketball?
This.
One piece does do aswell as naruto in non japan areas.
One peice went silent presence wise for several years. Naruto stayed in the public eye.
That poster didn't say that manga is dead. He/she just said it'd be dead to him/her if it wasn't for a couple of titles.See, This is the kind of hyperbole I wish people would avoid. I have over 70 manga in my ongoing reading list, And plenty of those range from great to excellent. The notion that manga medium is dying or dead is absolutely ridiculous.
Does it matter if it doesn't do well outside of Japan? It's consistently growing in popularity as evidenced by increasing print and anime sales. Not gonna do well outside japan. Sports, it being yaoi fodder shouldn't hold it back. Reborn was chalk full of it, and it did well. Untill jump canceled it.
Although it would be impressive to see a sports manga do super well around the planet doe.
Except for the fact that One piece is more popular in Asia than Naruto is world wide.

It's limited, but whatever. Different preferences and all that.
Is there numeric proof to this?
Dead to me..... Not you or anyone else my peronal preference, I've read hundreds of manga's in the past 7 years and there are few I still enjoy those are the ones but haven't find anything to added to it love just as much in a long time.

I probably stopped reading some 150 chapters ago, is still pretty good?
Your greatly underestimating the appeal of The Basketball Which Kuroko Plays. Its the Generation of Miracles shenanigans and abilities. It is so outrageously ridiculous. Just got figures in today.Dead to me..... Not you or anyone else my peronal preference, I've read hundreds of manga's in the past 7 years and there are few I still enjoy those are the ones but haven't found anything to added to the list that really like just as much in a long time.
Stop being so dam silly and interpreting people post into what you want to believe there about.
Number 1 yayoi(is that right) manga right now but it manly only appeals to the girly boy loving crowd.
I tried a chapter of it once I couldn't even tell any of the boys apart lol.
I can't say I liked much of anything, really. It always felt half-baked and derivative, with poorly written dialogues (seriously, non-Japanese speakers, the translation smoothens things out like you wouldn't believe), nonsensical plots and awkward morals. Guess it has a distinctive art style, at least, but even that went down the shitter in recent years.what don't you like about part 1?
Damn truly an end of an era. I love how much talk Naruto can still spice up though. A 7 page thread from gaf so far. It almost feels like EVERY anime/manga fan has at least kept up with Naruto at some point.
I wonder what Kishi will work on next
As a kid I couldn't get into Naruto because of the dub with all the BELIEVE IT crap
As an adult when I finally marathoned the series to be caught up for the Tobi reveal, I began to enjoy the series... and then part 2/shippuden happened. The story became horrible in the second half throwing out all the great characters, ninjutsu, and teamwork stuff for Kamehameha no jutsu in every battle. It's consistently the worst thing I read weekly and I just want it to be over. Watching part 1 on Toonami (chuunin exams) while reading the finale is just jarring how much the quality has dropped.
One piece is more popular in east Asian countries besides Japan, You just never hear about it.
It may be true though that Naruto is more popular in the west.
Wow.Kishimoto's response to Naruto's success in the west makes me lol
"Responding to Naruto's success, Kishimoto said in Naruto Collector Winter 2007/2008 that he was "very glad that the American audience has accepted and understood ninja. It shows that the American audience has good taste... because it means they can accept something previously unfamiliar to them."
One Piece sales in Japan definitely dwarf Naruto's. Japan's consumption of One Piece is also higher, mostly all volumes sold Japan not the rest of the East Asian countries.
One Piece volume sales are at about 345 million with 300 million coming from Japan itself.
Last I checked Naruto has 100+ Million volumes sold in Japan, I'm not sure of the exact number right now. Adding the rest of the worlds sales (Naruto constantly tops the New York Times Best Seller list when a new volume comes out), you'd get a higher number. I still believe One Piece has sold more overall, but its disingenuous to think of One Piece as the "Big One" of Shonen Jump.

Lol he makes it sound like Americans never heard of the concept of ninja before naruto, nobody told him about ninja turtles or martial arts movies being popular in the west.
Well he said he wanted to do his Mafia manga next. Mario.
Plus, Kishimoto's ninja have little to do with either the "historical" ninja or the stereotypical ninja anyway.Lol he makes it sound like Americans never heard of the concept of ninja before naruto, nobody told him about ninja turtles or martial arts movies being popular in the west.

Thats just his translated response. Its an unkept secret that Jump editors have pressured Kishi to continue Naruto after the lukewarm reception here. Lots of lost profits here, off tv here in four years, Shueisha was not happy. They were expecting a TON more money. One Piece sales in Japan definitely dwarf Naruto's. What I find funny is Naruto is about the least Ninja show I have ever seen. I think only Shikamaru uses deceit anymore. Everything else is Kamehameha.
