Not that it necessarily matters, but are we sure he's played the game on XBONE yet?
This might be the first basketball game I buy since the mid 90s.
EDIT: Streetball? Pretty much sold.
Graphically. The animation is still awful too.
May be devs told them that the two versions are exactly the same.
Really hate these types of reviews. So I guess they look the exact same, load just as quickly, same frame rate, etc.
Ryan McCaffrey seems to get almost angrily jazzed-up about things, and it almost got me to close the video - seems like fake enthusiasm to me. But the content itself was good.
Animation problems here are, I feel, mostly overblown. The perception here seems to be a symptom of us approaching the Uncanny Valley. Clipping has always happened in sports games and AFAIK has never been a notably-rare occurrence, so it's moot here. The unvoiced campaign teammates are disappointing, but understandable given how many players are in the league alone. Aside from that and the shitty lip syncing, the animation looks good enough to me. Uncanny sometimes, but overall very smooth.
Graphics overall are great, and that's without accounting for IGN's amazingly bad compression. I don't play sports games much and I'll leave it to my brothers to let me know if the gameplay actually does hold up compared to earlier entries, but from this review and what I know about the 2K sports games, it sounds like a very solid title.
But now the question is, which platform did they use to record the visuals, and what (if anything) did IGN gloss over in the cross-platform releases?
Its like the best looking game I've ever seen. Dunno what more you could ask for realistically?
I agree, that would be a mistake if the reviewer hasn't played the game. I hope he has at least played a couple of games, and then may be he thought that there was no need to go further because the devs told him that the games were the same.that is a horrible reason for a game reviewer or critic to use as justification of presenting how a version of the game would run if they have never played it themselves.
I hope I'm not the only one that lost it at this part of that video review

This reminds me. When can 2k make an nfl game again?
Thread (and article) should be renamed to PS4 review, to be fair to the consumer. Shit ain't right, son.
Hopefully starting next year. The exclusive license with Madden and EA is up next March. If they dont renew(I hope they dont) then we can probably have a 2K football game by 2015/16.
Just please god, dont let EA renew that license...
so 1080p 60fps on both consoles. was this known?
You'd be happy with a .1 difference in the scores?
Since when do they care about doing us any favors? It just comes across as INCREDIBLY disingenuous to rope both versions of the game into a single review and call it a day. How are you doing your customers any favors if you didn't even actually review one of the versions?
Basketball's one of the only sports games I'd seriously consider, but that may just be fond memories of NBA Jam speaking. Hope there's a demo though!I never buy sports games, but gawd, game looks mind blowing graphically. Almost want to buy it just for that reason alone
I dont think EA can afford not to extend the license with NBA Live getting trumped twice by 2k and Madden losing sales

IGN did the same thing to PS3 owners this generation, sadly.
Surprised it scored lower than FIFA. One clearly had more effort put into it than the other.
I think the hope is that the NFL doesn't opt to even give EA a chance at exclusivity. Would be better for them really. More games means more opportunities to make money.
And that's some shit. They really shouldn't be mingling reviews like that, but should actually play all versions to make sure there are no issues. They should be wiser by now that a publisher is going to send them the best version of anything to review and you can't just take their word for it when they say "it's the same".
It really does seem like they haven't even seen/played the Xbone version.
@3rdamention Yeah I have both versions. Very comparable! Both 1080p/60fps.
IGN posted their NBA2K14 PS4 & XB1 review tonight. Except no one has played the XB1 version yet...
@ManaByte I have it here, in front of me. Right now. Ask 2K. They supplied it to me.
