NBA 2k NEXT GEN REVIEW IGN

This but that, this but that, this but that, this but that, this but that, this but that, this but that.

I profoundly dislike those kind of reviews.

The games does look good, I might buy it.

This might be the first basketball game I buy since the mid 90s.

EDIT: Streetball? Pretty much sold.

Yeah...2k has something great on their hands with the streetball in the future games once they implement more features into that mode. I can see this being a BLAST to play online.

As for the core game...wow..im impressed. I am very glad to hear the visual leap is VERY noticeable. That is GOOD NEWS for next gen for launch games producing a nice visual leap...yes not all launch games but put the new hardware into talented developers and the future is mighty bright for next gen consoles!!

I haven't cared about basketball for a very long time but I'll at least download a demo once I get my PS4 just to gawk at this.

I never buy sports games, but gawd, game looks mind blowing graphically. Almost want to buy it just for that reason alone

Ryan McCaffrey seems to get almost angrily jazzed-up about things, and it almost got me to close the video - seems like fake enthusiasm to me. But the content itself was good.

Animation problems here are, I feel, mostly overblown. The perception here seems to be a symptom of us approaching the Uncanny Valley. Clipping has always happened in sports games and AFAIK has never been a notably-rare occurrence, so it's moot here. The unvoiced campaign teammates are disappointing, but understandable given how many players are in the league alone. Aside from that and the shitty lip syncing, the animation looks good enough to me. Uncanny sometimes, but overall very smooth.

Graphics overall are great, and that's without accounting for IGN's amazingly bad compression. I don't play sports games much and I'll leave it to my brothers to let me know if the gameplay actually does hold up compared to earlier entries, but from this review and what I know about the 2K sports games, it sounds like a very solid title.

But now the question is, which platform did they use to record the visuals, and what (if anything) did IGN gloss over in the cross-platform releases?

Its all PS4 footage, that much is clear.

that is a horrible reason for a game reviewer or critic to use as justification of presenting how a version of the game would run if they have never played it themselves.
I agree, that would be a mistake if the reviewer hasn't played the game. I hope he has at least played a couple of games, and then may be he thought that there was no need to go further because the devs told him that the games were the same.

People seem to forget that sports games have sliders where you can tone down certain aspects of the game. So if something looks jerky or weird it can probably be remedied with the sliders.

If you play any 2k game with the correct simulation sliders you can get a damn good representation of the real NBA.

I for one think thus game will be amazing cantwait.jpg

I hope I'm not the only one that lost it at this part of that video review

This reminds me. When can 2k make an nfl game again?

Hopefully starting next year. The exclusive license with Madden and NFL is up next March. If they dont renew(I hope they dont) then we can probably have a 2K football game by 2015/16.

Just please god, dont let EA renew that license...

It just comes across as INCREDIBLY disingenuous to rope both versions of the game into a single review and call it a day. How are you doing your customers any favors if you didn't even actually review one of the versions?

I dont think EA can afford not to extend the license with NBA Live getting trumped twice by 2k and Madden losing sales

Since when do they care about doing us any favors?
It's the publishers they're trying to make happy.

I was on the fence as to get this as part of b2g1f but this thread and videos included have sold me to dump 360 version. Also lol at mute Cousins, BIG BLUE NATION FOREVER!

Basketball's one of the only sports games I'd seriously consider, but that may just be fond memories of NBA Jam speaking. Hope there's a demo though!

This is true. Honestly, the only reason they would renew is out of pure fear of what the competition over at Visual Concepts would do to them. I firmly believe if 2KFootball had still been around this gen then Madden would have gone the route of Live.

Still though I want to believe that the license will be too great an expense for EA to want to renew, and hopefully that will force the NFL and NFLPA to open up to multiple Publishers being able to utilize the license...sigh..one can dream right?

I think the hope is that the NFL doesn't opt to even give EA a chance at exclusivity. Would be better for them really. More games means more opportunities to make money.

IGN did the same thing to PS3 owners this generation, sadly.

And that's some shit. They really shouldn't be mingling reviews like that, but should actually play all versions to make sure there are no issues. They should be wiser by now that a publisher is going to send them the best version of anything to review and you can't just take their word for it when they say "it's the same".

It really does seem like they haven't even seen/played the Xbone version.

The NFL and NFLPA go where the money is. If EA brings the money again, then it will continue to be Madden only.

I'm scared though if 2K were to get another shot, the first game would be mediocre at best. They failed with NHL, they failed with MLB, and NBA got good because NBA Live got so bad and left the market moving all sales to 2K giving them the money to back the franchise. I'll stand next to everyone and cry 2K5 was great, but I'm not sure if they can recreate that magic fast enough to convince people to go back to their game.

I agree. Because of this, we have the Fallout 3 PS3 fiasco. Reviewers mostly played the 360 version.

Ryan Mcaffery just posted on twitter 4 minutes ago that he has the Xbox One version of NBA2k, he says you can ask 2k, they supplied it to him.

I still think that is a pretty quick review, considering he couldn't have had it long, but we all know from last generation, and many reviewers have said so, they do not have the time to put in detailed impressions, and long gameplay sessions, of each version of a game.

Last Gen, it appeared they played the 360 version then copied and pasted to the PS3 version, this gen will be the opposite.

EDIT: BEATEN. But hey, you posted my tweet, lol. At least he responded. Hey hit me up on Twitter, I have like 23 followers, lol.

Its not happening. The NFL wants complete control over one company to make sure the prices stay at a premium.
