NBA Street Homecourt - Baller's Official Thread!

dskillzhtown said:
You do have some control over your stats as you pick what position to play. I think they did that to combat people going online with a 7'7" Center with 95 speed and 90 ball handling. That crap wasn't any fun. So you have somewhat of a max based on each position. Atleast that is what I am getting from it so far.

Yeah, that's cool, and I understand their reasoning behind that. When you get your stats raised at the end of each game, you can see the outline of the "max bar" for each stat raise a bit. It just would've been nice to be able to have some choice about where to allocate your gained points within those max ranges.

From the developer blog -

In Homecourt Challenge your created baller still earns points (RP) by completing games and challenges. These points help increase how good you can become at each of the various skills. Then while in game performing various trick moves, dunks and other gameplay actions will increase each skill. For example, my created baller may start out with a limited ability to perform trick moves but the more I attempt tricks in game the higher my "Handles" rating gets. By the end of Homecourt Challenge I can be the baller with the best handles in the game. It’s a really fun and intuitive character development system that has a lot of depth.

So are you saying that even if I see a visible cap for a certain skill I can still eventually push that cap up? Cause obviously I would love to have my baller rated 100 in everything at the end of the game.

How the hell do you get your trick meter up so fast people? Online I'll be doing tricks with x and y before I make a basket but by the time I'm at 1/4th of the way full my opponent has his first game breaker. =[

How do you tell your teammates to pick guys?

EDIT: Oh yeah, and unblockable DUNKS don't solve the 3-pointers + layups problem the person you quoted was refering to.

Click the left stick and stop calling them 3-pointers... you only get 2 points.

For 2s, you pretty much have to get pics or steal the ball and be down the arc first.

Yao Ming can shoot 2s which is kindda funny.

Multipliers my good friend.

When you do a Y trick and make the opponent fall or anything like that, you get a multiplier under your GB bar. So if you make 3 people slip up with Y tricks, you'd have X4. So whatever you have built up, when you score it will be times by 4 (and so on)

So thats why I always get some x2 bonus.. I was wondering where that came from. :lol

No, there are certain caps for certain type of players. Like my player's Body will never be over 65 and his speed is locked at like 75 or something. Look at the stats, you'll see 3 bars basically per stat.

1. The bar showing how much skill you got (I think this is orange or red... can't remember)

2. The bar showing what you can max it at the time (this is the white outlined one with the end that look like this } )

3. A bar showing how far it can be actually stretched out (light grey)

EXAMPLE

Dunking - [||||||||||| } ]

So the |||| is how much I got. The } is the max I can get it to at this current player level. The ] is where I can max out the } to reach by gaining levels. You're stats won't go up unless you do those particular things in game. This is why the purposefully made challenges where only shots count, so you can atleast attempt and learn how to make a shot and not rely on dunks.

Ea's book doesn't tell you shit. I just figured all this out on my own. It isn't hard to figure out on your own though, just play.

I thought that was all understood. I was hoping you meant that I can get my those two stats that I have visible caps too (3 are my keys skills chosen at the start and the other is my freak skill - so that leaves 2 left) up to a possible 100.
It's not a huge deal that I can't make everything 100. I just don't like it when games limit what you can do.
The create-a-player in this game is like the invisible walls of create-a-player

You could max a player to 100s in the places that can reach by losing challenges on purpose because you're stats go up even on a loss.

Would take a while, but it's possible i guess. I mean, the difference between an 80 and a 100 in shooting is very little.

I bumped up the difficulty level to Hard. I am winning, but the game is alot less fun. The CPU is just a trick and steal machine on that level. I found that Medium was challenging but fun. Maybe when my stats get higher I will have fun on the Hard level.

Yeah I've been playing on Hard the entire time and when you are a low level player it's quite frustrating. Your whole strategy has to be to push and steal the ball when they pass it in and get some easy hoops to stay in games. I'm a 100 rated shooter now so whenever I'm on a break or get a steal I drop a three on the other team to offset their amazing abilities.

I think I'm at a point where the game is pretty balanced now. I have Okafor and Deron Williams as my teammates and I'm winning the large majority of my games now. But early today (as my above posts said) I was hating the difficulty.

My dumbass wasn't paying attention to what I was doing and my Freak Skill is........PASSING!!!

I am definitely going to start another player after I finish this player's career.

Freak skill in passing isn't all that bad, but yea, it's kindda lame. With a Freak Skill in passing you could throw an ally late as hell and still connect.

I miss the dunk when you bounce the ball off the backboard. I don't even understand why you'd take that out...

I'm like spanking the CPU on Hard now, I mean like they can't get double digits on me on a game to 30 and I just blanked them on a game to 15. I think it's time for EXPERT

Yeah that is lame man. I model my forward after Tmac (went for a pure scorer) and then used my freak skill on blocks/rebounds cause that was always gonna be my weakest skill. It's worked out awesome.

I just won a tournament and finally unlocked a new outfit. I was really getting sick of wearing a Sprite uniform. :)

Anyone else notice the unlockables for playing pickup games?

:lol I still don't find it easy I always hold it too long and wind up looking like an ass laying on my back in the key. Meanwhile Lisa Freakin Leslie keeps double dunking my ass. My gosh.

:lol

Yea I take my comment back, its not easy at all.

I had one fluke game where I did 4 and since then I average like 1 a game and the rest of the time the ball is bouncing off the rim 20 ft up into the air :(

I'll have to say, this game is way better than the demo suggested. Once you figure it out and play with friends, it is very fun.

However, once people get really good...won't every dunk be a double dunk once every nails the timing?

I find all EA Sports games to have ****ed up difficulty levels. It's always too easy or too hard and it's never just right.

I'm getting a little bored playing in Normal, but Hard is a little too much.

Depending on someone's dunking skill, it will either be easy to double dunk or not. People need like atleast a 60 in dunking for double dunking to not be difficult as hell. Just hold B, and let got right before you get to the rim. Different dunks have different holding times. Just go to practice, where is has the bar ,and you'll get an idea of how long you should be holding it while playing on Hard and Expert.

I'm taking the plunge boys and girls! Home Court will be mine!! My wife said that i can still get MLB 2k7!!! Horray for wifes that support habbits!

This game is f-ing awful online, not the gameplay, the f-ing lag.

Only Tiburon holds the secret to online play with EA Sports, and they refuse to share it!

Strange, I have no lag at all online.

Maybe its cause I'm doing quick matchs and Im playing people with awful connections :\ Or it could be a East Coast/West Coast issue like Madden had.

So how far along is everyone now?

I just got named and won the Ash Park tourney. The competition is really balanced for me now, which I like. I'm playing with Okafor and Deron Williams still. Deron's stats are still better than any guard I've had a chance to recruit too. I was hoping to be able to pick up someone I felt more love for but I'm stuck with him until I see an allstar I guess.

so what the **** is up with the story mode its like exactly the same as nba street volume 3 but with crappy create a baller mode . i hope it gets better.

It's not a story mode really. You just make a baller, level him up playing short games like shots only, dunks only, or whatever up to 15, 21, 30 points and thats it.

I was about to buy this game on X360, but purchased denied now. Thanks for the update.

It's only laggy when you lag or the person you play has lag. For the most part, it's pretty good

There is no lag online.. I play online tons and so do my friends.. The poster here is the only one complaining about it..

Was searching around on half.com and winded picking this up for $38. I havent played an NBA Street since volume 2 (which I thought was really good). I'm assuming the series has had a major overhaul since then?

Can't wait to get back into the series, I've been playing Street Hoops on the neo geo to hold me over:lol

beat this amazing game after 2 days. I wish the game was longer and let you continue with your player after you win. Like defend your homecourt in tournies or something.

Online was way too laggy for me i never finished a game, i think i have a sucky connection or something but i can dl at like 400k a second..........anyone else having issues online? I wish I could play with my custom guy online and I wish I could play the shots only mode online that is my favorite mode!!!!!!

AMAZING GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2ND HIGHEST RATED EA GAME EVER BEHIND BURNOUT 3!

if online is ea's fault then the serers will get fixed soon i'm sure. CARBON was laggy at ship but has improved a TON!

Does this game block custom sound tracks or something? Music in this game blows and I went to play my own and it came up with some error code saying to try playing music at the dashboard instead.. My music works fine in all my other games.

You have to start your music in the dashborn, then start the game. I have no idea what the deal is with that, but it works that way. Same thing if you try to use an iPod. Just start the music in the dash and start the game.

Man it sucks that there are such a small number of GAFers playing this game. I had to find this on page 4.

Has anyone done any of the pick-up games to unlock any of the extras? I think there are 5 shoes/uniforms to unlock.

I have to say this game looks great. Sometimes during the court introductions, the game looks photo realistic. But man does it get boring fast. Nothing but dunk, dunk, double dunk, GB triple dunk, etc. The first Street had the game play balance I wish the EA team would of build upon. It still played like basketball. Shooting, dunking, and blocking were much better. You had to be a high rated shot blocker to block a shot, now anyone can block anything thrown at the rim. I think the new trick system sucks; most of the moves look choppy or animate way too fast. The old system of unlocking/purchasing new dribble moves was much better. Also, the fake and legend ball players really added a lot to the past games. The only things I like in Street 4 are: the production value, court and player introductions, and dunks.

The game does have some of the best NBA player faces I have ever seen in a game.

When you beat home court mode it tells you all other items have been unlocked.. so don't waste your time on the pickup games.

After playing this game some more, it is terrible. Okay not terrible, but it's not that good. Like I said above, the courts look amazing. The intros look real at times; some of the best textures I have ever seen in a game. But the game is not any fun to me. The tricks are boring to look at, get old very quick, and don't animate all too well (some are just way to fast). The dunks are great, it seem they spent the whole time thinking of dunks and they forgot about the rest of the game.

The "anyone can block any jump shot” is what really kills this game. I played a game were only jump shots count, and the game took forever. Also Eddy Curry was hitting three's like crazy if I didn't try to block it. Eddy freakin Curry. Oh and the jump shot animation is 100% dog ass, it looks horrible. I don't get it, great looking dunks, and a shooting motion that looks like someone trying to shot a basketball that has never ever seen one before.

I will say it again though, the courts look AMAZING. Rent the game just to look at the courts.

Here is a code so you don't even have to play the game to see them.
At main menu hold LB and RB, press Up, Right, Down, Left. You should hear a bang (got it from Gamefaqs)

The entire "anyone can black any shot" thing hurts the game bigtime. I agree with that. I don't understand that design choice at all. I am still loving the game, but I hate that design choice.

I agree completely. It's a fun game but the first one was much more in depth. Seems like there's less variation in tricks and dunks now. And it's a lot more repetitive than the old. In terms of gameplay, I think the first NBA Street was the best.
