NBA Street Homecourt - Baller's Official Thread!

Ok, what am I doing wrong. I'm in the Dunks Only v. Melo game and whether or not I dunk or shoot seems so ****ing arbitrary!!!

How can I guarantee an effing dunk?? I know I'm doing something wrong.

I think you have to have a somewhat open lane to the basket and have your character running towards the basket.

Ok, I got the game recently and I played it for about two hours... And I can't decide if it sucks or if I'm the problem here. I just don't "feel it". Game is beautiful, but the controls are broken. Or maybe I suck. My opponents are doing combos and huge tricks, but I have a hard time filling the gamebreakers bar. Anyway, like someone said, the tricks get old quickly. And it's really hard to score on a jump shot, it's way too easy to block a shot. Maybe I need to play more, but I have a hard time playing more than 20 minutes before I lose any interest.

I think it might be you. Give it time, learn the double dunks, when you do crossover and dribble moves when you make the defender fall during the move it will give you higher points and meter fillings, you will get there. It's how we all started.

Normal jumpshots have no place in this game :D

Just playing, they are good after pump fakes. I ususally shoot 3's off fast breaks. The way it is so easy to block shots creates little sub meta games here. I'm finind a good strategy is to have somebody cherrypicking under the rim for ally-ops and dunks. Then once you start doing this camping of the rim, everytime I see a dude jump for an ally -op, I'm jumping, leaving me not enough time to block the 3 (they are faking me out).

I got some beefs with the gameplay and I don't think it's totally balanced. I don't know. I have to play more, which I will tonight, hehe.

After playing a little more last night, I've come under the realization that there really isn't that much to do on this game.

While the dunks are jaw dropping at first, after you have played for a few hours, you have seen them all and they get too routine and boring. I really wish that they had the ability to edit the dunks your player can do, like in the previous versions...

Also, what the heck is up with not being able to recruit the big name players during the homecourt mode? I want a team with Ben Wallace and Vince Carter on it, not Al Harrington and Smush Parker....

This series used to have a reserved spot in my library, but now I am seriously considering trading this in toward something else simply because I am already done with the homecourt mode and not much is drawing me back

I have Joe Johnson and Okafor on my team. We are close to unstoppable now. It isn't like I have been offered scrubs. The only issue I have with the game is the difficulty level. It is either easy or hard as s##t. To win on the higher difficulty, I just play as cheap as I possibly can because that is what the AI is doing as well. It is intense, but not exactly fun.

I am not sure what the problem with the game is. Is the fact that everyone can block jumpshots making THAT much of a difference in the game? I don't know. Maybe that is the issue. But there is definitely a problem here. Maybe it is the jumpshot problem that makes the game totally one-dimensional. It becomes a total dunkfest, which is boring.

I am going to try to get all the offline achievements in this game then it is trade fodder.

I don't see the problem.

I play the game online against folks and I'm having a blast. I've had the game since launch day and its still fun as hell, sure I wish there was more customization but EA did very well.

As for difficulty, I play on hard all the time so that I never get used to the dunk meter and have it taken away from me online. That was a smart move, now I've learned to time the dunks by their animation and try to get double dunks instead of focusing on the pretty easy to follow meter. It's still hard though.

However, it IS hard, you have to be very fast and very precise with your moves, that's something new in NBA Street V4, you can't just come up busting moves and sliding away from the reaching hand, you have to be ready to press X or Y at the right time to stop a steal and get a multiplier, or get ready to have to run back for a fastbreak.

And what's up with this jumpshot fiesta wanting? Get a guy with 80+ shooting, and make sure you're VERY SELECTIVE with the B button. Thinking you can just come up the court and shoot after a little pump fake is stupid. These are perfect times for shooting, since most of you are seeming to have a hard time.

1) On a fast break, since this isn't simulation, you can step back a little from the three point line and still have a good chance of getting buckets.

2) If your partner is ready for a jump off dunk, dribble around him and get yourself some points, the computer will push him down in fear of that, after that opponent is occupied, do a pump fake and get the computer jumping, then take your shot or find the open man who was in stand by mode this whole time.

3) When your PC teammates go up for Alley-Oops, usually someone will try to block the man, if they do, that's your 4 second open window to get off a two point shot. If they don't block, hey, why not give them the alley oop for one free point? :D

4) Be the oop yourself (Right Stick UP) and make the man jump for you. Switch off characters and try to get a shot.

And there are quite a few more that you can create for yourself, it's all ABOUT TIMING. That's what this game is about, sure the computer seems cheap on hard and Expert (Expert = Wtfheadamasplode) but if you can get your fingers to time everything right, then you're good with this game. If not, you'll have shots blocked, balls stolen, be knocked down, and knocked out of the air, and (USUALLY) when you suck at a game, you don't like to play it much. :lol

I always play online with my created baller, and either the Timberwolves, Cavaliers, Wizards, Nuggets, or the Bulls. Everyone always picks the NBA Stars. D;

I'd give the game a 9/10 so far, well worth the money. :lol

I have progressed to the point that i have my baller and Lebron and KG on my team. FOr a while there it was Joe Johnson and Okafor, then i replace Johnson with JR Smith. But now i have a monster team! I think I'm close to beating the game, i have been maxed out at level 20 for a while.

DCX

Yeah, a nice amount of achievement points for beating homecourt too. :D

I had KG and Carmelo on my team, or was it. . . Lebron?

Nah, I don't remember.

Cool thing is I'm from and live in Baltimore so they should just make Cloverdale Court where all the cutscenes take place. :lol

well, I just saw that some downloadable content is being dropped soon on this game. 3 new courts (including Rucker) and 6 of the fictional characters from the series.... I might hang on to this until that drops (assuming they don't rape us with too high of a price)

HOLY SHIT.

SERIOUSLY? Where di you find this out?!

This just makes things even sweeter, some new characters and courts to freshen up online play. :D

Any idea on how soon "soon" is?

I do know the few times where you can get a jump shot off, but why have Earl Boykins jumping 50 feet in the air to block a shot? That is some bullshit. If you lure the big man out of the lane, then you should be able get a shot off. By making the jumpshot pretty much useless with the exception of maybe 3 or 4 isntances was a bad idea, IMO. Like I said, it becomes a trick and dunk fest, which the lead producer insisted wouldn't be the case.

Black_Ice, I am glad you are enjoying the game, but it really isn't a great game to me. I couldn't stop playing Vol 2, but this one has alot less appeal. Like I said in my previous post, I am not 100% sure what it is...but something about the game just isn't as fun. Hell, Vol 3 was more fun that this one.

The biggest problem with the jumpshot is you can be ahead of a defender, shoot, yet that player from behind can turbo up and still block the shot. The game will always be a trickfest due to the nature of the game and importance of the gamebreaker. The biggest issue with the game is it is far to easy to block shots and when playing multiplayer it comes to the point of annoyance.

I have some more thoughts on this game.

I think mind game come up when you call for ally-ops and the guys kneeling down at free throw line. I call this moves and hoping to lure the other guy into jumping or pushing the guy out of the way, and then go in for the dunk or go for the 3.

I wish there was icon passing and player switching. Somethimes i want to switch to somebody in a certain spot, and I can't.

I don't think the AI is very good, even on hard. They will let balls be right in front of them and not pick them up. And they will not get back on fast breaks or go to the right spot. O well.

I have to agree with all the complaints about shots being too hard to make. It's even more infuriating when the game actually gives you a challenge like "Play to 15, with shots only". *rolleyes*

I really think they should have just made the blocks less automatic. It's that simple. Make them more of a risk or something.

i'm probably rusty on Fight Night, but will play that game anyday of the week....

Maybe I'll try out some of the other gameplay modes on Street to give it some more longevity...

Quick Question.

I have heard that different players have different dunk packages. Can anyone provide a good example of a team that has 3 different dunk packages?

Well Dwade has a different dunk set, then maybe it's the BIGs and the standard SG/SF one like Lebron. Not sure though.

I think there are 3 different dunk packages (guard, forwward, center). I think Miami has all 3. There might be 4 packages, but I think there are 3.

Watch it be MJ. But MJ can't even save this game for me. The block problem is a game killer. And like I said earlier in this thread, bigs like Eddy Curry and Yao can hit three's if you don't try to block them. I should not have to get a fast break in order to shoot a jump shot, and Mike Bibby should never come close to blocking my shot. Street 1 and 2 were great. Street 3 was boring and Street 4 is terrible. It's more of an action game than an arcade basketball game. I wish Midway would make another NBA Showtime.

Well, I got to the point where I can recruit Dwade, Lebron, KG, etc....

I was relieved to see some different dunks out of wade then I had seen before. It appears there is only 3 sets of dunk packages, one for each position (center, guard, forward). There might be a 4th for the WNBA players as well....

The game is getting a little better, but I know I am at the point where it is going to end homecourt mode soon....

doesn't look like the downloadable content dropped last night either....

this game is ****ing awesome. just started playing it last night. my MAIN questions are.

"Rocket" by Herbie Hancock. It's from the early 80's great tune.

Can anyone tell me what is up with the audio in NBA Street Homecourt?

I bought it for PS3 and on the back it says it's Dolby Pro Logic 2.
Can anyone tell me if it's Dolby Digital on the X360 version?

My thoughts exactly. The CAP sucks, and the lack of legends sucks, but appears to be rectified soon. I LOVED being able to choose/purchase my jukes and dunks, and being able to choose any of them at any time. With Homecourt, you've typically got access to roughly 4 per trip down the court (4 "regular", 4 "off the back", and 4 gamebreaker dunks. The handles seem similar, you have access to a small amount under certain circumstances...

It feels more complicated with less options... Don't know how EA pulled that off, but...

Yeah... this title didn't have the lasting appeal to keep, so I traded it in. I really hope that in 2009 when they drop this title again (per the NBA licencing agreement) that they add in all the customizing that was in Vol 2 / Vol 3 that they dropped in this one...

One thing I didn't understand is that they put all this hype into this years title about your homecourt, but they don't even let you customize it (Vol 3 did this great)....

After playing the demo for this, I had really high hopes for it...but overall the gameplay seems shallow to me...even compared to the original Street.

I think the gameplay is the best that it's ever been; everything is fast, tight, and well-animated (though the controls feel convoluted, kinda like DJ: Icon...). IMO, it's the overall package that's shallow. There's a surprisingly limited number of dunks, jukes, and shots. And, unless you're a fan of the Jordan brand, there's not much to unlock. No dunks, no dribble moves, no special characters, no stats to build (that aren't pre-determined), no create-a-shoe, no real CAP (Yah, I always wanted to know what LeBron James and Kevin Garnett's love child would look like...), no create-a-court, etc.

I've pretty much exhausted the run of interesting titles on both the Wii and X360. So I'm stuck renting games I'm mildly interesting in (Rainbow 6 is next) until something worthwhile comes out.

Anyway, I'm trying hard to find the fun in this game but just can't do it. I used to love NBA Jam back in the day, but this just feels flat and lifeless to me. Offense seems to just be hitting X and Y until you can find a way to dunk. Being able to push and goaltend with no repercussions just makes the game boring to me.

Is there something missing or should I just mail this back to Gamefly and move on to Wing Island or something?

Is the online party over already ?

Just got the game and I wanted to try the online mode since I'm stuck at lvl 20 in the homecourt mode (only one pick up game at a time, no rep points anymore and I can't find any thing else to do) but I've got hard time finding a game.

I found one, once, but got disconnected at the beginning and the rest of the time, no matter how often I refresh and whenever I do it, I can't find any online match.

No jumpshooting, so I guess everyone just got bored with it

Sad, because I was on the hype train...I hope it didnt sell well, avg game

Not sure how well it sold, but there is no shortage of used copies at EB. When the price drops to about 30 bucks I probably will get it again. It was a really unbalanced game, but it was a graphical showcase and wasn't terrible. Just not worth 60 bucks.
