Need For Speed: Carbon was a good game.

I just went back to play it again on 360 and god damn was it a good game. I don't know if it's because I played Carbon first but I didn't connect much with Most Wanted but Carbon I did (not to say Most Wanted was a bad game, it was great just didn't connect with me). All those race battles with various leaders of areas and then Darius man. Canyon races were so fun to me, they were so intense and you couldn't fuck up once or you would fall to behind or fall off the canyon. Just puts you in that mood when your trying to beat the other racer for his pink slip. Also Drift events were brought back in this game which was always my favorite thing to do in NFS games which was cool. Customization was also fucking great and how you could tune your auto body just right to make it look cool and everything man.

NFS: Carbon was just a great game to me man. Shit was fun as fuck. Last NFS game I REALLY enjoyed.

Carbon was a disappointment for me purely because Most Wanted was so damn good. Still the only racing game I 100%'d.

It was pretty fantastic. Street racing down hills at night :)

Really miss the fast and furious tuner NFS's. Wish they would do a tuner game again with crazy wheels/body kits/mods.

My favourite NFS after the 2 Underground games.

The cheesy Fast & the Furious thing they had going on for a while was awesome.

This game isn't available on Steam right? Might consider picking it up during an Amazon sale if it's ON Origin.

Much better than any of the Criterion NFS games, at least. In Carbon I could get my car, fully customize it, invite a buddy and then go bust some ass in online races. I miss the days of NFS games with customization and actual online racing ; ;

Need for Speed: Underground 2 was the peak of the series for me. All the newer games completely changed that formula up so I don't care for the series anymore. Tried them, and couldn't get into them.

It was a good sequel to Most Wanted Enjoyed it greatly. Wish for that type of NFS again. Never really got what happened after that and Undercover was just bad.

One of the best NFS till date. Really liked the night setting, and those drift races on the hill were dope.

Underground 1 to Carbon were the Fast and Furious games I always wanted. It all went to shit when Pro Street came out, no idea what they were thinking of there.

I would say good is pushing it. Most Wanted was far better but either way Carbon is still quite a bit better than most of the NFS games after it.

The most fun I had with Carbon was going down the Exotic cars route, the Mercedes Benz SLR was a joy to drive.

Oh hell yes, OP. So many fond memories. Canyon races were AMAZING, and I loved tricking out my favorite car (Subaru WRX) into the most ridiculous ricer imaginable. Fantastic.

Carbon is amazing. And in my opinion underrated.

The customisation was absolutely legendary. There was just so much of it. I mean, you could literally sculpt some of the body kits with sliders (autosculpt).

Ultimate car customisation game for sure. Hated canyon races. Hated how everything was black again after the awesome setting of Most Wanted.

Felt very, VERY stale. One of the most unsatisfying handling models in NFS history too, and subpar as far as the franchise as a whole goes. I wouldn't use the word good.

This is like that other need for speed thread where the opening post stated that Rivals was a good game. LOL

Yeah no, just like with Rivals a much better need for speed came before it : MOST WANTED.

Sure the old one and the new one are completely different, but both are superior to their successors.

It's almost as if people have opinions.

I actually loved the PSP version. Really neat solutions to the limited hardware (headlights only in rearview mirror, etc) and a pretty fun progression for solo play. I never even played the previous-gen versions, aside from some co-op on 360.

I totally miss when EA was after the Fast and Furious money. Hope they mean they're going back to make Underground 3 when they said they needed this year off to bring a little bit of customizing cars back and give fans what they've been asking for.

Are you kidding me OP? After coming from NFS Most Wanted, this game was dog shit.

Confession

I still played a lot on PS2. But it was still shit game.

I could never really hang with the police chases, like you'd use all the traps and stuff to get rid of them like you were supposed to then it would spawn one right in front of you just as you were about to get away. They were exiting for 5 minutes but by 10-15 you're just sick of it.

I enjoyed the rest of the game though [except maybe for the awful videos].

Videos are exactly the same in Most Wanted. TBH I think they're better in Carbon then in Most Wanted AND I liked them in general, added something to the story to me.

I liked it, it was the last good NFS game, but Most Wanted is still much better.

I have my doubts. This series is now a hybrid between Need for Speed and Burnout.

I'm so tired of their same old formula. They tried to copy what made the original Most Wanted so good, but they failed. They failed so hard.

The last few "NFS" games all played the same to me. You get fancy cars from the start and race your way till the end of the game with cops messing around in most races. Especially in Rivals. Oh god they were so awful in Rivals. Worst usage of cops in the entire franchise.

I miss the essence of the Underground era. Starting the game with a cheap, shitty car and slowly working your way up. Earning more money the more you progressed. I lovd how you went from one shitty car to multiple, tuned up beasts late game. Now it's just car porn like any other racer out there, which shouldn't have to be a bad thing on its own... but the way races are set-up, together with the cop chases, feels so boring. Been there, done that.

It had split-screen, so it was a good game, I agree. Most Wanted that came before it was great too, but Carbon had its own nice things going for it.

Now you made me want to go back to the game. I suppose EA has taken the servers offline already.

Yeah Carbon was great. I suppose it was hard to top Most Wanted but the game retained all the good stuff and the added stuff was only a plus. The advanced tuning especially.

NFS: U1 - NFS Carbon were golden. I haven't played The Run or Rivals but I'd say there hasn't been a good one since. Was a shame and a surprise that Criterion couldn't bring the series back after the masterful Burnout Paradise and they're track record prior.

Carb was the last NfS until the excellent (and apparently underrated) Hot Pursuit that wasn't outright bad but it was also the beginning of the descent into shiteness that ended with the worst NfS ever, Undercover, and already a huuuuge step down from Most Wanted. I'd put it slightly over the disappointing Underworld 2.

I need to add my 2 cents. My best friend bought me this as a gift when the ps3 launched.

It looked awful and played awful, My friend felt bad giving me this game.

Would have loved that this game turned out good. Gave it back to gamestop to buy NBA Street for PS3.
