Might be about time to start watching Hannbial.

True Detectives deserves the spot, the show was phenomenal. But why is PoI so low? D:

As for Gotham, the show had a really bad start, imo, but now it's pretty good. Will be interesting to see where it places next year.

Second half of season 2 of Arrow was better than the first half of the Flash, but that was at the beginning of the year. By the time it comes to vote people would only be thinking of the first half of season 3 which was weaker than the first half of the Flash. It's come back strong though which is a good sign.

I can get behind that list.

Hannibal > True Detective though.

Also, thanks for everyone recommending Rectify, never heard of it and was blown away.

Nice, I don't watch a lot of TV, but I caught True Detective and it was the best thing I've seen in a long time. Maybe tied with Breaking Bad as my favorite show. I've added Fargo and Hannibal to my need-to-watch list now.

Yes, Person of Internet should've been a lot higher up. Same for House of Cards :(

As someone who voted for a few comic book shows, I can at least explain my thinking. I fully acknowledge that they may not be the most quality shows, but they're my favorite shows to watch right now.

It may just be me, but a person can only take so much depressing shit. Sometimes you just want to watch something that's fun and that moves. They may be popcorn, but they're entertaining and they're funny, and that's often what I'm looking for when I get home from work.

Regardless, I'm pretty happy with this list. It does remind me that I desperately need to catch up on Hannibal.

Niraj

I shot people I like more for less.
Thanks for all the hard work Ratsky :) I'm flattered that you used a couple of my blurbs.

Six of my top ten got in the top ten, and three of the others made the top twenty so I'm satisfied there. More people need to watch The Honorable Woman, only four votes for that is criminal.

Justified at 45 is the true travesty I like Flash it fun show but no where near better then Justified or Knick.

Good see Hannibal rising in popularity such a great pulpy show

Thanks again Ratsky for all your hard work in making this comprehensive list. Good Job :)

I think the list is a good guide to a lot of top quality shows on TV right now. I hope people don't obsess too much over the rankings of the shows but rather use it as a guide to try out some new shows that they find appealing. I think there is a lot of good stuff out there.

For instance, after I made my own top 10 list and honorable mentions, I tried out The Honorable Woman and Happy Valley and I found them both to be very good shows that could easily be ranked alongside my favorite shows of last year. And I still have quite a few shows that I want to try out.

I just wish I had more time :(

More people should watch The Honorable Woman (available on Netflix now). It was so good.

I missed this, but agreed.

It's up on Netflix now, so I'll hopefully have a chance to check it out soon.

Great, hope you like it. I need to pimp this to my friends now lol

Good post and the right attitude to have.

Wish I'd voted.

American Dad had some stellar moments last year ("Independent Movie" was particularly incredible), and not a single vote.

Jane the Virgin ;__;

I seriously need to check out True Detective though.

Person of Interest looks...interesting. But the only network shows that I like are Jane the Virgin and Hannibal because they don't stick to the usual network trappings (annoyingly obtrusive background music, endless flashbacks and cutaways to buildings and cities, terrible and infantilizing dialogue).

Person of Interest looks a bit too network-y for my tastes, but I'd love to be told otherwise.

Oh damn I forgot to vote, shame as The Honourable Woman and Peaky Blinders could have done with the bump.

As I didn't vote I shouldn't complain (especially as I agree with much of the list) but not one vote for Line Of Duty? Sure the last episode was a disappointment but I think the lengthy interrogation scenes and acting alone warranted a decent placing.

IMO Hannibal and True Detective should be flipped, but I'm happy Hannibal made top 3. Go watch it!

This list also reminded me to watch The Knick which someone on gaf also recommended but I forgot about.

I think you should be judging shows by the quality of their writing/direction rather than the network they're on. It might surprise you.

Also I don't understand your seething hatred for establishing shots but whatever I guess.

7 of the top 10 spots were won by cable shows, so it's not like this is some revelation.

I'm just looking for welcome exceptions like Hannibal and Jane the Virgin, and was wondering if Person of Interest fit that bill or was just another Flash situation.

POI is better than the Flash, but IMO takes a lot longer to become compelling. You watch The VD, though, right, Leona? I'm a season behind but that's one of my faves. Also, The Secret Circle and The Tomorrow People and esp. The LA Complex were great CW shows.

Pretty good list. Glad to see The Knick and Rick and Morty on there.

Disappointed to not see Nathan For You on there. Atleast it cracked the top 50 though.

Thanks for doing this Ratsky! Keep up the good work!

POI is easily recommendable, but it is a procedural straight up and it's not planning to deviate from that basic story engine, likely never. That being said, it's smartly written, well acted, intelligent television.

I don't quite know what you mean by a Flash situation though. I'm also trying to gauge your tastes, is that a matter of Flash's format specifically or is it mostly just that it obviously leans on comic book campiness, or something else? In that same vein, those hangups about 'network trappings', you'll have to be more specific about.

I wonder if my ballot counted, as i don't think i had arrived at 10 titles, even.

Anyway, i'd like to see True detective lower, while Knick, Rectify and Nathan for you especially, higher.
It is what it is though.
I gotta check out that Rick & Morty show.

Great work with the thread Ratsky!

I did my part and put THW as my number 1 show, but yeah GAF is very US centric so it is unfortunately not very surprising that British shows get very little recognition. Unfortunately for me Netflix Nordic has been very slow with the second series of Line of Duty so I haven't seen it yet, the first series was brilliant though.

I didn't even know there was a poll... anyway, the best show I watched was Cosmos. And then Resurrection. Awesome characters, awesome acting, a good story.
