Was there a moderator that wasn't banning anyone unreasonably? How was duckroll? He seemed quite rational.
We had over 50 mods back in 2017. Most of them were reasonable and didn't abuse their power. The main bad apples uncovered over the course of the research for this thread were bishoptl, besada, and charlequin.

Holy shit 50 mods?! I don't even remember 1/3 of them, probably because of the threads I use to frequent. A bit surprised to see charlequin is in that mix though.

Charlequin was behind most of the bullshit bans in the Anita Sarkeesian threads, and found creative ways to perm anyone who questioned the ideology of intersectional feminism. Had dire consequences for the tone of the boards.

Looks like a horseshit reason by besada over this post:

No idea why that would be banworthy and it doesn't qualify as "thread whining." Besada was probably looking for any excuse, seems to have resented him for being successful.

Ban lifted.

@Tabris yo.
Wow, amazing! Hope someone has a way to reach him and let him know

The impact these individuals had created probably without even thinking about the long term effect on the community itself is hard to fathom.

To be fair, Tabris is/was pretty annoying so I’m sure some of those 15 prior bans mentioned were legit and he caught some bans over on Era.

He’s the dude with the Patrick Bateman (American Psycho) avatar that acts like he’s a billionaire despite making a little over $200k and blowing it all trying to live lavishly while saying they plan to live off the Canadian equivalent of social security and mooching of their kids rather than investing anything into retirement funds.

As you can expect from such a person, they can be a pompous ass at times and definitely caught a few bans for being shitty to people with little money or anyone who calls out how foolish his lifestyle is in the longterm etc. Probably nothing ban worthy here since a lot of banter is allowed bs he old days or over there. And that’s fine and what ignore user is for.
Sounds like a baller. Let him in!

That's a lot of mods.....but it makes sense given how much members needed to be moderated during that tumultuous period of time.

I love the current mod team, tbh. You guys should check out the latest ban reports; one of them had a brilliant pun :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_fire:

Over many many many yearsI have experienced (non perm of course) bannings from Charlequin, Bishop (a couple) and oh yes lest I forget Dragona (twice I believe).

Any chance that benjipwns (his bore name, not sure if it's the same here) can get unbanned? The guy's hilarious, smart, types a lot, etc.

I swear this isn't a troll or him or someone else asking me to post this. I've been lurking there for 13 years. I also don't even know if he wants to get unbanned... like if it's a Bore-ism or real. Dude's funny af, for real. If there's too much bad blood then never mind.

Yo kbear. Nah, there's no bad blood with benjipwns, at least on my end. Looks like he was banned for withholding judgment about the situation in Charlottesville until more info came out. Silly reason for a perm, wrongthink garbage.

I've lifted his ban.

Just thought of other users who I liked and I think were banned for unfair reasons: Dennis, Gonzo The Great, WinoMccougarstein (don't know if I spelled it correctly), Phil0sophy (post count got mostly nuked?) The Mana Legend. Probably more i'm forgetting.

Also as a bonus, could you unban Lunchbox and Eggman? Yes, I know they were trolls most of the time who probably had it coming, but I laughed so hard at a lot of their posts. Their humor has been missing ever since.

Eggman permed for this post:

by Mumei of all people. No straights allowed I guess. ;b

I'll unban him, but it's been a very long time so he probably won't show up unless someone knows him.

If he edited it, can mods still action it? I legit don’t know but without proof and just your word I doubt they would.
I’ve always been under the assumption that mods can see it pre edit and after edit and either one could be bannable.

If he did post that and then realized his mistake and changed the post, maybe they take that into account.

It might be different had he let it stand.

I dunno what the policy is for edited posts that got caught in a quote but I wouldn’t complain if he copped a ban. The fact he said it in the first place is def no bueno.
Yeah if it’s quoted before editing it adds a different dimension to the exchange. Did he ever come back and explain himself or try to justify it?

Oh he knew what he was doing. And so did the other moderators he worked to permaban members who didn't fit their vision for NeoGAF.
