NeoGAF is woke trash

I mean, op does have a point to an extent. A lot of people do call things woke because they don't like the direction it's going here. Personally, if i never hear the term woke in my life again, it will still be too soon.

Regardless of the context, hearing or reading the term has become a major annoyance to me.
Would we need to hear it if it had never been implemented in the first place 🤔

Cause and effect 🤷‍♂️

Woke people are like that neighbour who lets their dog shit on your lawn and when you complain about it they say "you complaining means that you're just as bad as I am!"

1. Man, these woke types are just the worst.
2. Hey, is it just me or are the anti-wokes even more annoying than the wokes?
3. Both sides are equally bad, stop with the culture warring!
4. Realize #1 was correct.

It was the woke losers who started all this nonsense and continue to push it. If they weren't a cancer and blight on society then there'd be no need to push back against it. I even agree with some of the OP's points, but I am glad gaf exists and is a place where we can actually have these types of conversations.

The incessant crying and overuse of the term is just too much. People lose their marbles over the smallest things.

If you don't like something, don't support it with your dollars. It's working and a lot of games are failing to meet expectations. The net result of that is studio closures. That's all that really needs to keep happening.

Its only working because of the complaining and awareness.. shutting the fuck up was done before, it didnt work, so now we speak.. deal with it or just ignore the threads.

If dont bother you, buy the game, have fun on the OT and go be happy... you dont need to engage in threads about "wokeness".... complaining about people complaining is the exact same thing

Here's an idea lets ban everyone who's views differ from the majority. Sound familar? You are no different than the retards over at the purple palace.

Well said. The major difference between the purple place and GAF is freedom of speech. We have it here and it largely doesn't exist over there.

Just look at the OP of this thread, he only got banned because he requested it. On the purple place you can get banned if any one mod doesn't like something you say. Doesn't matter if they agree with 99% of everything else you say, it just takes one thing for the mods to "prune" you from there in order to reinforce the echo chamber and keep people's feelings "safe". It's not healthy.

I think many people here don't realize how good GAF has it. 🤔

Meh, this woke push has been ongoing for over 10 years in all of media and as a result we have been getting shit game, shit movies, shit shows and kids being brainwashed.

if you don't like the pushback, you can just ignore the thread.

Well, okay, I don't know about "equally" bad. But certainly both bad and insanely annoying, I don't care who is worse or who started it - that entire culture war nonsense is kindergarten level mud slinging and I can feel my brain cells dying whenever I witness it.
The entirety of gaming/entertainment was certainly better off before this culture war brain rot and social media took over and absolutely everything is now quickly turned into that fiasco, usually for no good reason at all.

Honestly, OP might be melting like ice cream in the sun, but I definitely get where he's coming from.
The best places left online to discuss gaming and entertainment are those that completely forbid any political discussion because it is simply no longer possible to engage in that without feeling like you are suddenly surrounded by a bunch of toddlers screaming at each other (and sometimes you, because you just happened to be there).

It used to be way more tolerable here, but I guess moderation doesn't want to bother.
For some reason, console warring is a no-go, but turning everything into this culture war clownshow is a-ok.
Seems like fucked up priorities to me, but whatever.

Not woke or anti woke people don't have any power over game studios, unlike woke types (that have their representations in them).

They can only react when this nonsense is pushed in vast majority of western games.

Couldn't agree more. I must say I was an avid day one'er on most new games, this damn house is a video game mausoleum in itself..

These days, mind you, and with more disposable income than in my yooth, its certainly easy saving money in the gaming market now, I rarely even think of a must have day one

The most depressing thing about any of this is the fact most kids nowadays won't have that feeling of unwrapping an Amiga 500 with Lemmings, or receiving a PS1 with Wipeout

These shit eating suits sure did wreck the awe of the gaming spectacle

Not even sure what this era of gaming is 🤷‍♂️

Just a mess all round.

Developers keep injecting woke crap into their games, people keep compaining about it.

How do you think we go back to pre-culture war discourse ? By pretending it's not happening and just quietly consoom products?

Yes, it's so absurd that people even utter this shit that both sides are the same. Nearly two decades of having this shit pushed down our throats and now that we are finally getting enough traction and pushback people want to cry about it being too much. Anyone telling you both sides are the same is part of the problem.

Yes, they want you to shut up and let the same crap keep happening until that's all we get. The entire "centrist" view is just accepting the shit we've been handed and pretending nothing is wrong with it, which, btw, makes it a whole lot less centrist than they pretend to be.

Incorrect.

Devs and publishers will keep doing what they're doing unless people explain why they have stopped buying for as long as it takes for them to stop doing it.

Other industries even pay for the kind of free feedback that gaming devs and publishers intentionally ignore from potential customers.

So until devs and publishers start listening you won't see any of this kind of feedback stop.

It's tiresome for sure, but I'll never understand someone committing account suicide when you can log off and not return. Further, drawing a line in the sand isn't going to change the minds of anyone who throws around the word woke like that other site does with Nazi. What's that famous quote? "Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." And while I do find it tiresome and wish other discussions would get as much attention as the obvious rage bait, that's just the nature of human rubbernecking (have I mentioned we should kill all humans lately?). This place isn't perfect, but at least you express your opinions without walking on eggshells and the biggest shitbags on either side of the ideological spectrum get the boot quickly.

Even if they make more in the future the woke stuff becomes canon usually so they've written themselves into a hole and pissed off and disgusted what would otherwise have been potential customers.

Devs would have to declare that their woke entry in the series is not canon.

And we're not there yet in most cases.

Some won't get that chance. I get that some people are tired of the discussion around this topic, but the inclusion of activism/ideology (games, hiring process, games media, etc.) in the industry is more than just outrage and people getting mad for the sake of it (on either side). Look at the Saints Row reboot. That game failed and resulted in the closure of the entire studio. This stuff has resulted in undeniable material damage to the industry and the hobby we all care about. I'll keep talking and reading about it because the results are not negligible and that is very clear when looking at the sheer number of game failures, studio closures, IP losses, financial losses, and general animosity between devs, publishers, games media, and customers.

Yeah while some of the big names can take the hit, many devs won't survive a complete failure.

Potential customers keep voicing displeasure but if devs keep sticking their fingers in their ears like toddlers and blaming gamers, closures can happen to them too.

It's detrimental to NOT speak up
