Just look at the OP of this thread, he only got banned because he requested it. On the purple place you can get banned if any one mod doesn't like something you say. Doesn't matter if they agree with 99% of everything else you say, it just takes one thing for the mods to "prune" you from there in order to reinforce the echo chamber and keep people's feelings "safe". Well, okay, I don't know about "equally" bad. But certainly both bad and insanely annoying, I don't care who is worse or who started it - that entire culture war nonsense is kindergarten level mud slinging and I can feel my brain cells dying whenever I witness it.

The best places left online to discuss gaming and entertainment are those that completely forbid any political discussion because it is simply no longer possible to engage in that without feeling like you are suddenly surrounded by a bunch of toddlers screaming at each other (and sometimes you, because you just happened to be there).
It used to be way more tolerable here, but I guess moderation doesn't want to bother.
For some reason, console warring is a no-go, but turning everything into this culture war clownshow is a-ok.

These days, mind you, and with more disposable income than in my yooth, its certainly easy saving money in the gaming market now, I rarely even think of a must have day one
The most depressing thing about any of this is the fact most kids nowadays won't have that feeling of unwrapping an Amiga 500 with Lemmings, or receiving a PS1 with Wipeout

Devs and publishers will keep doing what they're doing unless people explain why they have stopped buying for as long as it takes for them to stop doing it.
Other industries even pay for the kind of free feedback that gaming devs and publishers intentionally ignore from potential customers.
So until devs and publishers start listening you won't see any of this kind of feedback stop.

I get that some people are tired of the discussion around this topic, but the inclusion of activism/ideology (games, hiring process, games media, etc.) in the industry is more than just outrage and people getting mad for the sake of it (on either side). Look at the Saints Row reboot. That game failed and resulted in the closure of the entire studio. This stuff has resulted in undeniable material damage to the industry and the hobby we all care about. I'll keep talking and reading about it because the results are not negligible and that is very clear when looking at the sheer number of game failures, studio closures, IP losses, financial losses, and general animosity between devs, publishers, games media, and customers.

Potential customers keep voicing displeasure but if devs keep sticking their fingers in their ears like toddlers and blaming gamers, closures can happen to them too.

Woke exists, developers even admit that they change character designs, fire people because of not agreeing with their decisions that aligns with woke mentality, and justifies their whiny behavior when people push back on it under the guise of progressive automatically means they're better than their customers.
TLDR: woke exists, devs and publishers literally list DEI as company directives and anyone saying otherwise is playing stupid. We've had 13 years of this shit and we're sick of it.

- LGBTQ+ characters making up large percentages of character sexuality, especially outside of 'playersexual' control.
Examples include the fact that Aloy from the Horizon series was intially written to be uninterested in romance. In the first game, she displayed no interest whatsoever in pursuing romantic or sexual relations with anyone regardless of gender. Of course in the sequel DLC, Guerilla Games changed that to have her potentially fall in love with a random woman she knew for about the span of maybe a literal week.
Another example would be The Last of Us 2 with there being several LGBTQ characters like Ellie, Dina, Cat, and Lev. Furthermore, the game goes out of its way to include dialog like "bigot sandwich" unironically to make a character seem like a cheap caricature of people who don't like seeing these elements in game.
The Borderlands past the original is also guilty of these with more and more characters being portrayed as being gay/bisexual instead of just straight unlike in the first game where only Mad Moxxi was portrayed as anything but straight.
