Here's a snippet from http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/03/13/last-remaining-resident-puts-wyoming-town-up-for-auction/

Despite a steady stream of traffic whizzing past the mountain town on I-80, Buford living isn’t easy. You can expect spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains, but the extreme weather that goes with them closes I-80 multiple times each winter. Plus, even with the thousands of people who stop at the trading post every week, having no neighbors can make for a lonely existence.
Pack your scarfs boys!

We already have something planned for the Junior Members.
Cut a junior some slack! I was here before you :P I was lurking for a while before I joined too!

Just don't be that guy

The fuck is this "put me down for $20"? I'm not putting down $10,000 if some cheap ass thinks he's getting in with a fucking measly $20.
:lol I'm a poor college student, $50 is the best I can do.

I'm only contributing to see where it goes, the only thing I'd want out of this is maybe my name on some kind of diploma signifying that I contributed, haha.

Me too! And I've actually driven that section between Laramie and Cheyenne many times. It's about a mile away from the National park where it's not like you describe. One of the few places where it actually isn't a flat barren in Wyoming unless you head far west.

But yes, the I-25 is a wasteland. Probably why they built it there.

I guess I'll have to take your word for it. At least it's a short drive to Denver :-)

Well, make a list of what gets you what! Set up a kickstarter or something. 10k obviously nets you an acre at the least, $20...gets your name on a list somewhere in the town charter?

I looked into that. It's way past the deadline. The bank has it.

We need everything we can get!

Exactly! I just put up with the traffic until I get past Ft. Collins and then there's nobody. Then for some unknown reason as soon as I cross the border to Wyoming I get blasted with 60 mile an hour winds and I see trucks flipped over on the side of the highway.

Actually I don't normally see trucks flipped over until I hit Wheatland...

You will be honored as the 1% and we will build a statue in your likeness. Then we will tear it down and protest!

Winter absolutely sucks though and the highway does sometimes have to close. But that little place is awesome! Hah! I've actually been there!

And here's what it can potentially get like in the winter :P

Month to month climate report of neighboring Cheyenne, which should be similar to Buford. Keep in mind that Buford is 2000 feet higher in elevation.

Seriously speaking here, if this doesn't work out we should all honor our pledges, and merge it into one giant gaf donation to Child's Play.

I'm not sure, but I believe that Cheyenne has broken the 100f mark since 2000. I've been through there when my car's thermometer has gone over that 100 degree barrier. Nothing official of course, but I wonder what the official readings have to say. It was definitely hot as hell though. If they didn't it was definitely high 90's.

But the town we're talking about would definitely go down in temp. 2k elevation makes a difference. This town is pretty much at the peak of the elevation on that particular stretch of highway. Going from either Laramie or Cheyenne it's a steady climb. Then you reach the peak and then you drive for a while then you descend.

Not the 1k or 10k people. I would be happy donating my $100 to child's play though.

Dudes its perfect it can be our Meca we could have an annual gathering and get fucked up and no one around for miles to tells us otherwise.

Dear Euro-GAF,

Do whatever you want in France. But, on behalf of NA Gaf, I would still like to put dibs on SmokyDave, and any other UK Gaffers.

Special reltaionship and what not.

Me.

We could also get a village in southern Sweden:
http://di.se/Artiklar/2012/3/12/261643/Hel-Smalandsby-till-salu/

The village Sulegång in Småland is now for sale. It is a Danish couple that has put the small community up for sale.

The village in eastern Småland, outside Oskarshamn, consists of 14 buildings, including three farm houses, a smaller cottage, an old blacksmith's house, five barns and a stable. Seven hectares of land (17.5 acres) with hunting opportunities are also included, according to the Blocket ad.

The buyer will also get more than 100 historical documents from 1811 to 1965, which detail the life in the village during half a century.

The Danish owners, Claus and Kirsten Thykier, are now selling the small village due to their old age and weakening health after having owned it since 2004. The price is set to 2.9 million Danish kronor, equivalant to 3.5 million Swedish kronor (about $500,000).

I'm down for $1,000. Gotta create a sustainable financial plan though. I will bust out a spreadsheet and try to develop a multi-year budget model this weekend.
