NeoGeo PAD USB [PS3/PC]

It used to be so hard for me to find good pads for the pc. Now there's so many good ones, it's really great. i feel a little silly for stockpiling all these sega USBs

Pre-ordered one on P-A. $62 AUD with shipping :lol

Ah well, i love these pads. Due to the price, just buying one of them, maybe in the future if they're still available, I'll make sure to have another just like my set of Saturn USB pads.

So basically it's the Neo Geo CD controller? Awesome. Must get.

A better look at the actual thing on Play-Asia. Can't wait.

I've played with a Saturn D-Pad and it feels like a microswitched pad, but it isn't - innovation.

Plus I can bet you it lasts longer.

Woah, the controller just got back ordered in Play-asia. Anyone here picked up this?

I noticed NCS was no longer accepting any new orders for the this. Sold out already? For once I am glad to have ordered early.

seriously? i didn't even see that it had been put up for sale <facepalm>

I swear I followed the link in their daily email update earlier today and it basically said no more preorders accepted, but I just followed the same link now and they're back open! So don't fret yet, order while you can if you want one.

Pics in the "pick-up" thread once it arrives please!

I am leaving town for a few weeks and asked NCS to hold shipment of mine until later this month, which they graciously agreed to do. I won't have my pads until nearly next year now, though. :( It was that or either risk them selling out by the time I was home or spend an exorbitant amount on overnight shipping for tomorrow delivery, neither of which I wanted to do.

These pads were scheduled to come out late October, remember? I cursed the universe when I learned of their delayed release and the new day, which was, like two days before me leaving.

Ahh, they raised the price by $10. I guess I don't blame them now that Neo Geo Station is a reality.

Baron,

I'm in the same boat. Heading to the states on the 18th and my pad is coming to europe. Likely won't have mine till the new year as well. No worries, I won't have my PS3 with me so I can't check the new games out till then anyways. Funny, kinda bought one with the intent of never using it (for the shelf, so to speak) now I'll be using the hell out of it!

I mine in the mail earlier today and have messed around with it. Really nice controller. I haven't used the six button version before but it's still comfortable and the shoulder buttons are nice too.

One nice thing is that the home button is deep in the controller so you really can't accidentally hit it.

Nooooo! Not fair I was broke from black friday I couldn't afford to buy this until a month later now it's sold out at ncsx and play asia.

Gah! I'm so torn. I want this, but if I buy another one of these its going to be my 8th NeoGeo Pad iteration I've purchased. I can't decide if they really deserve my money until they announce Last Blade 3. ;P

I pre-ordered and paid for this the very moment it got put up on P-A.

...Now on back-order and no word on when or if it will even be shipped -_-

I need this for Super Meat Boy. The 360's analog stick doesn't cut it.

Agreed about the 360 pad (although analog works pretty good)and have to say just got my sf4 fight sticks and Meat Boy controls wonderfuly with stick, so fun.

I would love to have some impressions.

I ordered one on play asia last night, couldn't resist. I've never had one but after modding a SFIVSE stick with some sanwa parts I couldn't stop thinking about a microswitched d-pad.

Hopefully this one has a better build quality than what I read about the ps2 version.

First thing I noticed is it's actually licensed by Sony!

The NeoGeo Pad USB has a very similar form factor to Sega Saturn pads, if not slightly smaller.
Curiously the mold of the pad is actually asymmetrical, as you might be able to see in the pictures. The right side of the pad basically tapers off in width, but I honestly did not notice this until after my little play test.

"That's nice _dementia, but how does it perform?"

Face buttons are excellent. They're flat - not too convex, and very responsive. They're not as large as the ones on my Hori Fighting Commander 3, but they're significantly more useful in terms of size and shape when compared to my Saturn controller. Shoulder buttons have some resistance and feel nearly identical to the Saturn controller's shoulders.

As I've heard it described to be before, the D-Pad is basically a joystick for your thumb. It may take a while to acclimate yourself to the new input method, but motions eventually became very natural to me.

Some slightly more technical crap:
I sat down for a a short while in training modes for BlazBlue Continuum Shift and Super Street Fighter IV to test it. I have previously only played these games with arcade sticks.

In BBCS, the character I spent most of my time with is Hazama, and after a minute or two was able to pull off his simple elevator combo [5B> 3C> 214D~C > 5C> 2C> 4D~D > j.Cx5 > (JC) > j.Cx5 > 214B] just as easily as I could on a stick. As expected, thanks to BBCS's lenient 5-frame input buffer window, Linking 2A off Hazama's overhead was easy as well.

For my training mode session in SSFIV, I started out with a couple of my familiar characters' bread and butter combos that contained one-frame-links. After a few tries I was able to consistently land a Ken hit confirm to EX Tatsu [cr.LP, cr.LP, cr.HP xx EX Tatsumaki]. On the other hand, it took several tries before I finally landed Abel's stepkick combo [f.MK xx dash, cl.HP xx CoD]. The hardest part was timing the dash correctly with the new control method. Basically, dashing was a problem for me. I decided to up the ante and throw in some FADC combos for more mid-combo dash practice so eventually I was landing Ken's cr.LP, cr.LP xx HP Shoryu FADC Shinryuken with some consistent success on the new pad.
Sorry I didn't play any charge or 360/720 grappler characters for my little test session :(

Overall, I highly recommend the NeoGeo Pad USB. I am tempted to buy another in the event this one were to ever break. It's quickly becoming my favorite pad, and might even turn this stick fan into a pad warrior :D .

sooo goood

Hope someone can come up with a way to make these work on 360s soon. Unfortunately I don't have any PS3 games to use this on, I may be tempted to get the Neo Geo collection that was announced recently though.

Mostly got this for emulator use on PC, but it seems like the ultimate Super Meat Boy controller too.

I put my order in last night at Play Asia and it seems like it's preparing to ship now. Didn't think stock would turn around that quickly but it's worth a shot.

Cool review _dementia!

Can't wait to try it out. Wondering how it might work on the PSN shooters. That and the platformers is what I want to use it for.

Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure the Neo Geo Stick + (the second iteration of that PS3 stick) was also licensed by Sony, unlike the first.

Got mine today (well, yesterday now) as well. Great overall.

My only complaint: the PS button is recessed in the center, making it very cumbersome to press. No way my thumb can press the button without accidentally hitting select and start, and i have small hands (i can use the gamecube dpad quite well in fighters).

The miniature stick is not mushy, and its very accurate.

Some extra points:

- The matte surface of the controller feels REALLY nice. Very easy to keep dust away
- Stick is very clicky, like any arcade stick of course (plays like a pad though).

Mines been at preparing order for nearly a week. I actually pre-ordered and paid for this, the day it got listed =/

Hopefully it ships soon and i get it this week. Looks sharp.

Nice pics and impressions, dementia. I want one really badly, but my sister has bought me one for my birthday and I have to wait until late January to get my hands on it. I'm pretty tempted to try and get another one beforehand, but I probably shouldn't.

Pre-ordered when they were $39 at NCSX. Great for Mame and used it only once on my PS3, since my PS3 lags with my PS1 content.

Next I'd like an official Genesis 6-button USB pad.

Any lag on the PS3-based games?
