NeoGeo PAD USB [PS3/PC]

Received the pad. It's absolutely fantastic, but I haven't been able to get this to work in RetroArch. Is there anyway to configure this or should I wait until someone at the RetroArch decides to bother?
I just mapped mine manually like any other pad. I guess the current release doesn't come with the Phoenix launcher to configure inputs anymore though. They've added input configuration through the F1 menu under Input Options in the latest source, but haven't compiled a new official release yet.

I'm still waiting on mine. It's taking forever to arrive.
Same here, if you dont mind me asking when did you order? I ordered on the 20th August when it was still on backorder, and it shipped on the 10th September, but theres still no sign of it as yet :/

Hmm, I'll have to test that out when I get home. I tested it on the PS3 w/ KOF 13 and it was great.

Mine shipped September 10th as well. Ordered August 18th. At least we're in this together, I suppose. :(

So I got mine today. The little stick on the controller actually feels SLIGHTLY slower than the (rather crummy nonetheless) d-pads I've been used to throughout my life. I also have a slight problem with reaching for the outermost 2 front buttons on the pad during a combo or a special move that requires you to go from light to fierce and vice versa in time, due to the extra distance. What makes that a bit worse, is that I got pretty big hands, so using the tiny little bumpers instead, is not optimal.

So all in all, I hope I can remedy it with just getting used to the thing more. I also noticed it requires much more precise inputs, which isn't a bad thing (obviously), just also something to get used to especially with the diagonals on there.

One thing I'd like to warn about btw, I don't know if there's another fix for this or if it's been mentioned before, but, if you connect the pad in the XMB and then fire up a PS2 game, it will think it's on analogue which means the D-pad will barely function and for some reason it also deactivates the PS button on it. So to get around that, you have to disconnect the pad, use a normal DS3 controller, boot up the PS2 game after which you need to set controller 1/A and 2/A to digital in the menu you get after pushing the PS button, THEN connect the pad and it'll work properly.

So yeah....

Yeah.

finally got mine today
what other games are you guys using this pad with?
Been using it with a lot of platformers, specifically La-Mulana lately. It works pretty well with them although I had a hard time doing a grapple claw puzzle where you have to hold a diagonal to stay on the wall. I kept falling off using the stick on the pad, so I used the arrow keys instead which made that puzzle much easier. I find myself accidentally going into doors a lot because I must be holding the stick slightly diagonally when walking I guess.

I'm very tempted to grab one of these...hmmmm.
I got the PS2 version of the pad along with KOF94' Re-Bout when I was in Japan and it was godly.

Any idea if these would be compatible with a Neo Geo X (the console/dock, I mean)??

It's been 5 weeks since they shipped. Play-Asia orders can take a while to arrive, but I always get a bit nervous if it's longer than 3 weeks.

I emailed Play Asia because it's over a month, they sent it on the 10th Sept and said it arrived in my country on 15th Oct.

Just got mine in the mail. :)
Lucky you! I'm still waiting, and now i'm all alone :(

I think the long shipping times might be to do with Hong Kong's new postal regulations slowing up their whole postal system (Play-Asia is based in Hong Kong):-
http://www.hongkongpost.hk/eng/publications/notices/2013/20130910a/index.htm
http://announcements.ebay.com/2013/...mail-regulations-may-cause-delayed-shipments/
Basically there are now restrictions on shiping certain items (lithium batteries, perfumes, etc) and all parcels have to be x-rayed - this new policy was introduced at the end of August/early September which is exactly when my parcel was sent, so its likely the cause of all the delays.

...At least the above is what i'm telling myself is the reason!

The only way it could ever be compatible is is home brew takes off now that it's been discontinued and SNK terminated their contract with Tommo.

Ugh. Got mine today after it shipped back on Sept. 12. Looks like the R2 button is broken. You can kinda click it from the right side, but left side it just depresses with no click. Does anyone know if it would be easy to fix that if I opened it up?

Edit: I took it apart and got it kinda working. It's not perfect. Seems like the switch they used for the R2 button doesn't stick out as far as the one for the L1.

Got mine exactly two months after I had ordered it. Well worth the wait. There's something incredibly satisfying about the way a NeoGeo joystick clicks.

I just sent Play-Asia an email about this yesterday, and then it showed up today (shipped on September 10).

Seems neat so far - tried it with Ys Origins on PC and it seems awesome for that.

Anyone know what the stuff in the manual is about that shows it switching the layout of the buttons? Also, there seems to be some reference to POV hat and X/Y axis usage for PC, but it's obviously mixed in with Japanese so I don't know what it says.

^^^

The POV hat stuff is that you need to hold Start and Select while plugging in the controller in order to get it to act like a D-Pad instead of a joystick.

I think I might sell my controller that I got from Play-Asia. I'm more accustomed to using Nintendo controllers (especially the SNES) and I didn't realize it was so damn clicky. I probably should have done my research before buying it lol.

So far this has been a blast on Rayman Origins. I still think it's behind the Saturn pad but this is a good alternative.

A couple of notes:
- The Neo Geo's face buttons are responsive and good overall. I just wish they cradled my thumb like the Saturn pad.

- The PS button is straight up nearly useless. It's sooooo small. I honestly think it was designed so that it wouldn't be pressed at all... but why even put it on there?

- I love how tactile the dpad is, and in an age of shitty Dpads for modern consoles this thing is a godsend. However, the noise is a tad bit too loud and the Saturn pad beats it out in grip.

-The shoulder buttons could also be larger, but I didn't find them to be a problem.

The whole point of this controller is that it uses microswitches and is thus clicky!

Haha. I actually wanted to use it as a general purpose controller for my PC and I tested it with Super Meat Boy. I don't know if it was either my crappy computer or the controller but I couldn't make those precise movements with that directional pad.

Anyways, if anybody lost out on buying it the first time, I've put it on the NeoGaf Buy/Sell/Trade 2013 thread. Just drop me an offer and let's work something out!

I received my pad yesterday (fairly quick from Play-Asia, I might add, which I like), I quite like it in comparison to the PDP fight pad, the only thing I miss is the microswitched buttons...other than that, I enjoyed using it for my sessions with VF and Marvel, should try DOA5 (Vanilla) later. I just hope this just doesn't crap out on me after a while like the PDP pad.

How popular are these things in Japan. If it wasn't for this thread i would have never known about this reprint. It's also my understanding the PS2 version has a great reputation.

I had mine crap out a few years ago after a Rayman Origins session with my roommate using it. Just wouldn't control as well. Hopefully they improved, but I don't know....anyone else still have their controllers working from the initial release?

Word of caution to prospective buyers: The pad does wear out faster than you'd like.

Oh, yours died? :(

Mine is still kicking. I love it, but I don't use it as much as I'd like to because of the fruity axis setup when plugged into PC, and the number of PS3 games that support it is small..

What does this mean? I've never had any trouble mapping it in emulators, directly in PC games that support direct input mapping or with things like x360ce, xpadder or joytokey with the default POV setup. All 8 directions respond perfectly.

That said, have you tried the method mentioned in this thread to switch the mode (I assume it makes it show up as an axis like the Saturn pad instead of a POV)?

Mine is holding up pretty well, BTW. I ended up somehow making pressing right feel a bit less clicky after switching direction a bit hard a few too many times in Windjammers. I opened it up to see if there was anything obvious I could fix, but didn't see anything off. I did accidentally wipe off some of the lubricant under the part where the stick's pivot touches the bottom of the controller, so I got some silicon grease and applied it there, which made it feel a bit smoother than it did originally. It didn't fix right being less clicky, but I no longer notice that anymore.

Sometimes my left thumb hurts after using it for awhile. I think that's been happening less and less lately; probably just me getting used to a stick that slides rather than a dpad you press.

Finally got a mail from the customs, thank god, only took like seven weeks (was quite worried) and actually I shouldn't even be charged, oh well.

Ordered this baby up on Dec 28th and who knows when I will actually receive it.

Will post a review when I get it. Hope that it works for a good long time...

I am now thinking I should have perhaps ordered 2...

finally got the pad set up.. but Left Shoulder button feels weird...
there's no click to it ><

doubt Play-Asia will do a replacement right?

took apart the whole thing and fixed the Left shoulder button. now it works perfect.

now trying to find a way to get that xinput wrapper (for the DS3) to work on it

I will be figuring this out soon myself. If you could, keep the thread updated on your success getting it working well.
My order for 2 on play asaia just updated to "shipping in next 48h).

Hopefully it arrives within the next 2 weeks then.
