Are there any drafts of recent anti-net neutrality legislation that one can read? It's been a hot minute since I've read some literature in the horror genre.

Start getting used to using VPNs folks. They're going to be our best friend in the next decade or two at least.

As far as I know trump doesn't do legislation. He just removes it.
So anti-net neutrality legislation is "do what you want".
That means att Comcast etc would be free to price traffic depending on whatever: latency, protocol, source, whatever. And on both ends. So they could go to Netflix and say well unless you pay extra for our premium tier we might put your video traffic into a category that has packet loss. And any content provider (website) not paying for premium tier might be "best effort" tier by default.
Or who knows. They may decide to charge users depending on the mix of traffic. Cheap for web, expensive for VPNs or Torrents.
It might be ok if there was an open market place for home broadband but most have only one choice or two choices. Monopoly or oligopoly.
Comcast share price has gone up a lot since the election. That is new revenue expected, and it doesn't come from thin air.

Is it possible for a country to have net as a public utility by law (Estonia) also remove net-neutrality? Basically will regarding it as utility prevent the removal of net neutrality?

What if a company only has servers in the USA but has many paying customers from net-neutral countries?

Money talks. I'll try what I can but there isn't much a thought in my mind to think we'll be able to do anything.

We'll have to rely on corps like Google, Facebook, and Microsoft to be able to swing the shit.
Ultimately I think death of net neutrality would benefit them. It surpresses anyone who would dare to compete with them. A task which is already very, very difficult because their bread and butter is streaming data from server farms and a lot of capital is required to compete in that space.

The Net Neutrality rules passed in 2015 were just held-up last year in a federal appeals court. So if the FCC wants to get rid of them, they need to provide new rules that would justify getting rid of them, and there also has to be a public comment period, which typically lasts about two months.

The last time this was an issue, the FCC got over 4 million comments in support of the Net Neutrality rules.

For everybody screaming about "total control/dystopian" future, etc. Please have some sense of perspective. As we've repeatedly seen before, this administration cannot do whatever the hell it wants, and this kind of stuff can be sued to oblivion by tech companies.

So don't think this is a hopeless fight.

Is there any hope of stopping him on this?

What a disaster.

It'd also mean that they'd have to pay huge fees to ISPs to get it. It isn't worth it to them, which is why they lobbied against them last time.

A sick part of me wants this to happen just to see the extreme blow up it would result in.

You'd think these people would learn by now not to fuck with the internet. But hey, who gives a shit about freedoms and basic rights when there is money to be made?

I am 100% convinced that Trump's base will eventually come to believe that net neutrality is totally bad. They just can't stop themselves from loving everything Cheetodust Turd does.

A lot of Republicans thought that during the SOPA fiasco, I wouldn't doubt it at all, I expect it.

Let me explain it in terms people here might understand... AARP, Gun Owners of America, and the Christian Coalition of America all support Net Neutrality. Those are non-profit organizations that represent senior citizens, gun owners, and the Christian right respectfully, which amounts to the vast majority of the Republicans' base. In fact, AARP is one of the most powerful lobbying groups in the United States and basically the singular reason why Republicans don't dare mess with Medicare or Social Security without their say-so. And they support Net Neutrality.

Trump supporters never defend their boy when it's matters like this. Net neutrality getting axed? Crickets. ISPs selling your browsing history? Crickets. Everyone not in the pocket of ISPs should be against this. Your boy don't give a fuck about you or your #MAGA hashtags.

I hope it produces the same results as his "Obamacare take down", a failure.
Nah destroying net neutrality will be an easy win for them.

GOP's effort to dismantle healthcare wasn't stopped by public pressure -- they obviously don't give a shit about that -- it fell apart because of republican infighting. They'll dumb it down to "all regulations are bad" and easily be united against net neutrality.

Net neutrality was a fight when dems were in control -- felt like we barely won. Won't be the same this time around. Elections have consequences.

Nothing better than a bunch of people that probably don't even know what net neutrality means making decisions about it.

Also see Women's Reproductive Rights :(

Call or email your state congressional representative about this.

I know Claire McCaskill will be hearing from me this week.

I'm going to take a more positive outlook on this one, after seeing checks and balances limit the power of the moronic orange manchild.

If a bill ever reaches the House, there will be enough stink to sway opinion. And Dems could still filibuster.

That clip pretty much sums up how clueless and ignorant this fuck is. He is living in his own world. Trump world. Maybe he should ask his son about the internet.

Cant wait for this guy to be impeached.

If the owner of the service cares and the rules are enforced by your country, then it needs to move the servers to a country which fulfills your rules. A prominent example in Germany is Microsoft's Azure and Office 365 cloud services which are for this very reason licensed and operated to/by Deutsche Telekom.

Suddenly thousands have to decide whether triggering liberals is worth losing that sweet, sweet hi-rez anime titty

LMao

Hey, I'm a triggered liberal anime titty fan, so I'm losing on all fronts here.

By the way, I do find it hilarious that immediately after taking a huge lose with health care reform, and seeing his approval rating plummet... the President, in search of a win to lift his downward spiral is turning to an issue that is guaranteed to piss off tons of people - including his own supporters.

I really hope this doesn't go through though.

I feel like every other week there is a thread about the end of net neutrality and nothing ever comes of it. Given Trump's current success rate in office, this is probably nothing to worry about.

Repealing Obamacare failed due to republican in fighting as the new bill was seen as still too socialist by some in the party. Deregulation is cool with the entire party. I don't see how they fuck this up.

Corporations will have to fight other corporations to save this.

Lol, doing a quick search of r/the_donald shows they are none too happy with this. You played yourself.

The fact that through this whole mess it gives me great joy knowing Trump supporters are coming to grips with their life decisions.

I hope the self-sabotage was worth it.

This is a profoundly stupid idea for an administration already in a hole to pull. Net Neutrality is a hard sell to the public, it appeals to both Conservatives and Liberals and it's hard to explain why we need this change, considering the status quo is that Net Neutrality exists.

This is an unpopular fight Trump is going to be making, sitting at sub 40 approval and coming off pretty much the biggest political failure in our country with the Obamacare nonsense.

Hope it blows up in his face. You guys have ample means to stop it, so I'll be plenty pissed if this goes through. When the time comes, I hope y'all have the FCC on speed dial, so to speak.

People don't read threads or even posts. They come in, doom & gloom/shitpost and get out.

This isn't going to be as easy as people think it will. It's certainly possible, but this one is tied to a court victory so you can't just hand wave it away.

bish gets all the credit :)
Whenever I have to explain Net Neutrality to anyone (liberal or conservative), they're all for it. All it will take is a little education on the issue and everyone will realize we consumers would be way worse off.

This issue isn't even a party line issue. The people have spoken a million times. It's frustrating how these scumbags don't work for us.
Why would they work for us? It's not like we're paying them money. Their masters in big corps pay them.

This could be an easy win for us, we'd just need companies like Google, Microsoft, Apple, etc to advertise the adverse effects.

How many times will they mention "AMERICAN JOBS" and "STIFLING ECONOMY" in their trash defenses of going after net neutrality?

That's not exactly true.

The freedom caucus opposition wanted even more stripped away, of course, but part of that infighting happened because giving into the freedom caucus demands wasn't going to work for the moderate republicans, who were feeling the pressure and knew that they were likely to suffer if they went along with it. So either way they wouldn't have had enough republican support. Freedom caucus believes they had the mandate to do what they wanted, sure, but on the other side of the republican equation the potential response from voters most definitely impacted the rest of the opposition

It wouldn't be the first time republicans push for something that 80%+ don't support. For crying out loud, they just dismantled Internet privacy rules.

Again, it wasn't public outcry that stopped the healthcare bill. It was republican infighting. Republican legislators have basically been united against net neutrality. They even adopted an anti net neutrality stance in their platform.

Pathetic how a lack of understand of QOS and load balancing has led to this subject. Even worse that isp can take a protocol meant to be agnostic argue that dividing is better for all when it will slow down everyone using their links.

I guess profit matters more than latency and that its ok to use basically shitty standards to inflate bandwidth costs more.
