New Assassin's Creed Unity video details changes to parkour, stealth and combat

This game looks great! Whodathunk a button for stealth was a good idea for a "stealth centric" game! lol

Really damn impressive, they're saying all the right things alright, especially in regards to how they're following the AC1 philosophy, and that there's a bias towards stealth and being an actual assassin...
I mean it's not as if the game is called Assassin's Creed or anything.

Even after Black Flag being so amazing, this could well be the best AC so far.

"Combat should be a fail-state"

Yes.

The best part is the battles looked like 3D versions of the original PoP and a little of NuPoP. I've been screaming for a wallrun since AC1, and stopped playing them after Brotherhood, so this looks like a good time to hop back in. I like to think GZ, and MGSV as a whole, really put their feet to the fire in terms of what stealth can be.

This quote got me.

Assassin's Creed Unity looks like it's going to be what AC1 threatened to be. I haven't been excited for an AC game pre launch since 2 this is a weird feeling. Everything Ubi is saying about it is just right on the money for me.

My favorite series keeps getting better.

This new parkour and combat....all I kept thinking is we're that much closer to getting a ninja/asian setting here in the near future.

Holy fuck, they're fixing the shitty right trigger only parkour system? Finally, i can't remember but i'm sure it used to involve the "a" button initially, then they changed it to right trigger only. It's been a long time but i remember it not feeling right when it was changed to right trigger only. Maybe the "a" button was my imagination, but thank fuck for this anyway.

This might just be the Assassins Creed that replaces 2 as my favorite.

I wish this game had a demo -_-. It's like none of the big games ever have demos.

I think it'll be interesting to see if they can deliver on that. The only open world stealth game we've ever seen is MGS V: GZ. In that you have to scout out everything with binoculars and it marks all the enemies, and you're certainly not running up buildings and jumping inside them on a whim.

How do you actually scout in this game? How do you know which buildings are safe to jump into?

If they can get past those two questions with something that feels great, I'll probably love this game. If it's sloppily done and you just kind of play normal AC but also hide behind a few boxes, it will be disappointing.

As far as I know this game doesn't have an enemy radar, or a way to mark enemies. You will probably be spamming the shit out of eagle vision.

The series' many, many, many problems aside, I'm always impressed with the high level of production values and attention to detail in the AC games. It's super bloated, but it's kind of remarkable to see what they are able to achieve.

Perhaps like the Hindenburg in some ways.

The last AC game I played was AC2 and I am super exited to get back into the series with this game. The addition of Coop is also going to be a blast with friends.

I thought AC4 was atrocious, but this looks pretty good...

They actually removed counter, or otherwise known as the I-Win-Button. Parkour doesn't look janky and frustrating this time with the added angle climbing.

Fuck. I'm getting excited for this. Someone stop me from spending money on something I promised I'd never buy ever again.

All these posts have me interested however the site is refusing to load the fucking video.

Anyone got an alternative link??

Is gameinformer dying or is it my internet. Because this is seriously ridiculous.

It does seem very much like Assassin Creed 1's concept fully realized. Especially with the major assassination contracts being more like a boss battle than a casual encounter. That was easily the worst change for AC1 to AC2; in AC2 the assassinations happened too frequently and were too unimportant.

I hope they can do the demos and videos justice. I'm really looking forward to this.

And that is why I stand with saying AC1 is still a better assassins game than AC2

Unity is looking fantastic. Asassins Creed is starting to get back on the right track with 4 being amazing and Rouge and Unity looking really good as well.

Weapon stats in AC4 were virtually useless. They might have helped a bit but with the counter system, you could still take on a whole army with a sword that has terrible stats and kill all of them easily.

Ok as someone who completely lost interest in the franchise after 3 they are saying all the right things to pull me back in. Looking really good so far

I liked how those black and white concept videos looked.

This game is going to be amazing if all they are saying is true.

Did they ever make a difference though, you could counter and the enemy was dead regardless of what you were using. Even worked with a broom in AC2

Haha, yes, the broom.

Of course you can still use any weapon and it'll get the job done, but it's still funny to claim that stats didn't exist in the previous games. They did, even if they were pretty much nonexistent.

Unity on the other hand, how the weapon system will change is going to be very interesting. Not having high hopes for the combat overall, though, as Amico did sound as 100% on it unlike the rest of the video, which isn't a good sign.

I want this footage in glorious 1080p quality. Where's Blim? xD

I like that they are bringing back main events like in AC1. While it's obviously the worst of the lot, no other entry in the series replicated that feeling of "reliving a crucial historic moment".

Those all have different levels of the same stats. Maybe instead of every weapon being Speed, Combo, Damage, weapons might have Speed, Thrust, Durability, or Combo, Damage, Awesome.
That could be an option.

I'm glad they removed the counter (because it was broken), and the parkour improvements are really welcome.

lol. Yeah I'm actually excited for an AC game again for once. Black Flag was pretty cool, but I kinda got tired of the sailing thing. I also missed having buildings to climb and stalk people on.

This being built from the ground up for next gen and the co-op, plus this stuff, is why I'm excited.

man its good to see everything they've been talking about condensed into one video, improvements look really promising. the nod back to AC1's assassinations is the highlight personally, series really did lose its way on that one.

Well they're certainly saying all the right things. The parkour seem particularly improved. I also like their "black box" concept. Hope it translates well into good level design.

All the changes they've made look really good. I too liked the original Assassin's Creed's structure of you taking direct orders for Assassinations. All the other games seemed like the main character just uses his judgement on who he assassinates, or does it because another character asks him to. AC1 assassinations were very powerful moments in my opinion, because you go to the Assassin's bureau and you get your orders, who to kill and where, and then you set out to find information on your target. It felt very - professional. Then you kill your target and the bells start ringing in the city as you flee. Really epic moments.

And of course the parkour looks vastly improved, incredible really.

Sounds like they finally improved some game mechanics that I always found clutzy in AC (mainly addressing the mechanic where you are left to the game interpreting what you want and hoping it interpreted right. Sounds like they are trying to make it so you can be more precise and tell the game more exactly what you are trying to do. I hate it when I'm trying to climb up and the game would decide I was trying to jump off). Too bad at this point I'm jaded with the series.

But, if it doesn't require online (because with Ubisoft I totally see them using this co-op play thing as an excuse to require that on all games judging by their past actions) and it reviews well for the improvements they claim, maybe I'll think about it. I will say the fact that the NPCs look for your last known location so that you can use that against them sounds pretty interesting.

So won't Assassin's Creed: Rogue look absolutely crap in front of this game? Bomba?
Will it have any of Unity's features? Also, bring back the Assassin Tombs please!!

This is probably the most I've looked forward to AC since early on in the franchise.

I love that they've focused on improving combat and are going back a bit to the AC1 assassin-style. The first AC had issues, but it also felt the most focused on assassinating targets, so improved gameplay in that style could be neat.

Also, yay for stealth mode.

That game will sell shit tons to the legions of fans who don't yet have a PS4 or One. It doesn't even need one of Unity's features to do so.

Rogue has you hunting down assassins, which seems more interesting than hunting down some Duke who just runs as soon as he sees you, so it will have an audience. Plus, Ubisoft can't resist the cheap up-port for the quick sales boost during the dry summer months.

After watching that I think this may just be the game that brings me back into the Assassin's Creed series. Seems like they've finally understood a lot of problems inherent to the series.

Sounds like they are working on alot of the long time complaints.
Improved running/parkour, stealth, and combat. Hope they deliver

I like the look of the changes to stealth. Goodness knows the AC series has been pretty bad when it comes to stealth mechanics. Hopefully stealth works well enough to justify the increased difficulty of combat.

Hopefully there will be reasons to use other weapons now. In the last games you get easily get by with throwing on the weapon with the highest stats. There should be a endgame pool of 5 to 12 weapons that all have different effects and support different playstyles. If they don't improve it it's going to be like the last games where everyone has 'The Fabled Master sword of Ezio', that they got from collecting all of x, that has 10/10/10 with no real reason besides preference to use anything else.

Wow actual stealth this time now I'm actually interested. I can't even call what AC has had in the past stealth it's kinda weird that they considered it a huge part because I never felt stealth was in a AC game.
