New build of Killzone Shadow Fall shows improvements

Haha. The thing is that gameplay is not defined by a console generation, but rather a developer's creativity. "Next-gen gameplay" means nothing. It is nothing.

Personally I think it's just an un-inspired cookie cutter go to response some people use to criticise games went they can't come up with anything more valid or with greater merit.

lol at the "next-gen gameplay" discussion.

Then:

Forza is about Gen 4 with the PSOne, Gran Turismo did it first.
Knack? That shit is Gen 4 all the way. Crash Bandicoot, lol.
Ryse is Gen 5, some God of War level stuff right there.
Dead Rising 3 is Gen 5, same as the previous one and very State of Emergency, let's ignore the fact that it actually runs well and has good looking environments now.
Killer Instinct is straight-up SF2 arcade-level gameplay, totally pointless.

...

Resogun is Gen 1 :(

This distinction is incredibly silly. More Resoguns and Killer Instincts, please. Don't let these complaints homogenize the industry intro endless bloated "open world" experiences.

Honestly how many of current gen gameplay cant be done on last gen if we take graphic out of equation? I think ps2 can run tlou gameplay if we downgrade the visual enough...

I think we have the exact same topic early this gen during transition period

This game would look amazing if the artists knew the color spectrum consisted of more than blue and orange. If you look at some of today's movies and games it's like we're back in the black and white era

A bunch of streamlined elements from other games packed into a robot with a name. Not what I would call next gen gameplay.

As long as it is a solid single player FPS who the fuck cares? What was the last AWESOME single player FPS you played? Last great one for me was Far Cry 3, but I liked it for the open world elements, the story etc were all crap.

While the game looks kinda cool - it's 2013, who seriously wants to play a FPS with something around 30FPS and tearing?

The multiplayer is v-synced at 60 FPS, this won't have tearing. It's a work in progress build. As for the 30 FPS, I played Crysis 3 @ 1080p 30 FPS on ultra since my FPS was fluctuating too much without the 30 FPS lock. Nothing wrong with that

The screen tearing is concerning, but as mentioned I'm sure it will be ironed out, hopefully. Everything else is looking very polished and tight. I'm looking forward to playing this on launch day.

Every thread turning into "let's please Derrick01" is so tiring. He has been around long enough that his shtick should be obvious and if it isn't obvious to you then it should at least be known.

Framerate and year don't correlate. It doesn't make sense. In regards to screen tearing, sometimes work-in-progress builds of games will have things like tearing, and can be ironed out by release.

Same ole' argument.

WE NEED NEXT-GEN GAMEPLAY!

But they added X, Y and Z?

THAT IS NOT NEXT-GEN LOL BORING!

So what is next-gen gameplay?

I can't honestly remember since they all try to be the same game. Probably Crysis 1 or COD 4, both 2007 games.

(Far Cry 3 had an awful open world by the way. Typical Ubisoft filler game)

Metro games have pretty outstanding campaigns.

I really should get to the first one some day. I always play the first hour and end up stopping. The gifs of the new one make it look amazing but I'm assuming they were on a high end PC...mine can barely handle 2033 on high lol.

Nailed it, but it is very entertaining so kudos to all involved.

Yes 2007! Yes I think the last great one for me Crysis Warhead (but I haven't played the latest Halo games). Far Cry 3 was ok but like I said, i only liked it for the open world.

As long this game delivers a solid FPS experience I don't think anyone should complaint. The single player FPS genre has suffered a lot in the last few years.

With these graphics at launch I'm really wondering how PS4/Xone titles will look in 5ish years.

The ironic thing is, his taste in games isn't particularly inspiring anyway. And Deus Ex, which he champions in his Avatar, also did nothing revolutionary or new, yet is one of his favourite games. And that's the point, games don't have to be revolutionary to be great, they just have to have excellent execution. It's why REV09 will buy Forza 5 despite it barely being that different from Forza 4 gameplay wise, why Derick will buy Deus Ex 2: Cyborg Evolution despite it doing hardly anything ground breaking gameplay wise, and why I'll buy Killzone Shadow Fall despite it not being revolutionary (though it is a big departure for the franchise itself). None of these games need to re-invent the wheel, they just need to make sure their wheel is damn well designed.

Just saw video showing the latest version of the forest level

*All lod problems have been fixed - no more pop ups!
*They have added moving mist to the level -looks rad
*they have added god rays to the level. Allthe trees are casting god rays (
*it has screen tearing but the frame rate is solid
*depth of field is back and they have added object based blur
*particle effects seem lacking compared to the latest multiplayer footage

The fog/mist really changes the look of the level. Looks wayyy better than the e3 build.

I'm not seeing any screen tearing and I'm normally pretty sensitive to it.

As long as Killzone Shadow Fall has good level design and good AI, it will stand out IMO.

It needs more open ended levels like this one.
GG got rid of the awful pointless cut scenes that were in KZ2 and KZ3 - the scripting here seems a lot better
It has no infinite spawning enemies

Everything they have shown here looks great!

it's an old build, don't worry about it. It's missing a bunch of effects as well :P

I honestly think at this point that he just really loves seeing how hard he can push the envelope before GAF gets sick of his shit and he gets banned again. Plus he uses the same tired tactics + arguments in threads over and over again:

"This game doesn't innovate, what's the point? Not impressed. Someone already did this."

Someone responds. His replies: "Ok X Y and Z is not innovative, try again lol. Seen it before!!"

Basically Derrick boils down to this episode of South Park:

"Simpsons already did it. SIMPSONS DID IT, SIMPSONS DID IT!"

Deus Ex 1 was unbelievably unique when it came out. Still is really since game design and level design only went south as the years went on. I'll say for the second time in this thread don't assume I love a game just because I use it as my avatar, that's faulty logic for anyone not just me.

I get what you're saying and you're probably right. It's just how many FPS games need to come out that are mostly the same before we stop being ok with it? The fact that this is a new generation only amplifies this feeling for me. I guess I'll just sigh and give up hope. Maybe if we're lucky this game will do something, anything, new.

I agree with you about Deus Ex (1). It's one of my fave games of all time and genuinely left an impact when it first came out, but I wasn't nearly as keen on Human Revolution.

But what are your favourite modern games? And what do you consider next gen gameplay? Some examples would be nice.

Haven't watched the video yet, but screen tearing is unacceptable. KZ2/3 never had that, right? Fix this shit, Guerilla!

Regardless, the Human Revolution avatar does provide hilarious irony to a lot of your posts.

Are people comparing KZSF to Crysis?
Sentence I bolded, exactly that is the difference. KZSF has levels, Crysis had one big ass island.

I remember a mission in Crysis back when I was playing it in 2007 where you had to go to a enemy camp and do something (forgot what it was). You could go straight into the camp via the main route, you could go enter the camp from the jungle/woods side from the east. What I did was go all the way down to the beach and use maximum power and use those rocks to climb up and I was at the back of the camp. I completed my mission without them knowing I was there and/or I could do a surprise attack.

I'm sorry, what? Crysis does not have one big island. The island is segmented into levels much the same way a game like Halo is. There are distinct levels with distinct objectives and distinct load screens and so on and so forth.

Everytime it's shown, it looks more and more of what Crysis 2 should have been.

Agreed 10x. I love what Guerrilla is doing with this game. It is going to be PS4's big killer app at launch and will sell a lot of systems when people get their hands on it and show their friends.

This game's single player looks much more appealing to me. It's much more like Crysis/Half Life/Resistance. The game is linear, but gives you some actual choice on combat. I'd rather play a campaign like that over the typical CoD style campaign.

I was also under the assumption that Crysis was completely open world before I actually played it. In reality, it's just a series of small open world levels.
