New build of Killzone Shadow Fall shows improvements

I agree with you about Deus Ex (1). It's one of my fave games of all time and genuinely left an impact when it first came out, but I wasn't nearly as keen on Human Revolution.

But what are your favourite modern games? And what do you consider next gen gameplay? Some examples would be nice.

I would like to know his gaming tastes and opinions on next gen gameplay too. Derricks arguments are trolling until he provides justification for his opinions. Otherwise it shouldn't be tolerated.

I was also under the assumption that Crysis was completely open world before I actually played it. In reality, it's just a series of small open world levels.

Even small open worlds is stretching it. There's a large amount of illusion and a few compounds / open areas. A lot of the areas are just wide linear paths.

So am I seeing this right? Can you feign death in this game?

nope! I think your robot buddy can revive you, not always a wise choice though especially in hectic gun fights (as seen in the tgs dev playthrough video)

btw you can shoot down enemies as they are repelling down from their ships. The ship drops those heavily armed troopers who carry a shotgun with flashlight attachment

This game looks super impressive. I'm really hoping we haven't got a COD style 3 hour campaign on our hands though. That would be pretty disappointing.

Nice, hope they'll fix the tearing though. But maybe, I'm expecting way too much from next gen...

Or maybe way too much for a launch title... I'm pretty sure the first year of games won't meet your expectations, graphically.

In any case, this game does look rather amazing. I'm not the biggest fan of FPS games, but maybe I can con the g/f into playing it with me...

2 questions...
1. Does this game have a co-op campaign?
2. With release in 33 days, what's the "gold" timeframe like. Like, Xbone games say they need to be ready for shipment 6-8 weeks before release date. KZ:SF is at 4 1/2 weeks left and still making changes. Which I'm perfectly fine with and I wish them the best of luck, but how much less time between a game has gone gold and actual release date for PS4 games? That much less than Xbone?

I'm sorry, what? Crysis does not have one big island. The island is segmented into levels much the same way a game like Halo is. There are distinct levels with distinct objectives and distinct load screens and so on and so forth.

It's a LONG time ago, so I didn't remember it well. But the "levels" are still not the same as KZSF. KZ is like COD, BF, UC etc. Crysis is one big island, but divided into huge parts. The different parts are still HUGE though. Yes, the game has objectives, didn't say it doesn't and why would the game not have them. And I haven't played Halo, so can't comparet the two.

The only next gen game I'm buying this year, really looking forward to having my eyes melt in single player, and spending the rest of my time in MP.

Well exactly which next gen launch title is doing something better? Killzone gameplay has only been solid.

If we can include third-party titles, then there's at least five games I look more forward to than Killzone. And who's doing something better is impossible to know at this point since 0 % of us has played all the games that's going to be available at launch.

Agreed. I want something meaty and comprehensive. 10-15 hours please (sadly, doubt it'll be close to that length though). Great pacing, exploration, weapons, AI, story, decent characters, back story, political grey areas, a glimpse in to both Vetkan and Hellghan life etc.

Deus Ex 1 was unbelievably unique when it came out. Still is really since game design and level design only went south as the years went on. I'll say for the second time in this thread don't assume I love a game just because I use it as my avatar, that's faulty logic for anyone not just me.

Yeah, you'd still be using a blank avatar if you had to pick one from a game you liked.

Yeah, I don't think you remember it well at all. See Sethos' point above. Crytek calls it a "directed sandbox" experience. What I've seen of KZ:SF does not match up with Battlefield much at all. Perhaps Bad Company 1, but definitely not 3 or BC2.

Well does the AI react as if you are dead when that happens? Seemed like the enemy walked off after killing you.

Perhaps he can have an AMA thread and the Derrick01 discussion can stop shitting up decent threads.

Then how are you already criticizing this game's gameplay?

The gameplay seems nice. I don't think we had any negative feedback from people that got their hands on alpha versions.

I've said nothing about the gameplay not looking good. I was just saying that gameplay wise, there are launch game titles that looks way more interesting than Killzone.

I'm not.

Actually, what you said was "Hell no".

Which is, you know, a pretty conclusive statement.

And that's cool! Seems like it's not very appealing to you, totally understandable. It was everything you said after that didn't quite make sense when put together with that statement :p

Is the owl avaiable on the mutiplayer? I've seen some perk-like uses in a few videos, but does everyone have their own with them all the time?

I'm not.

Graphically? Yes. Gameplay wise? Hell no.

I'm not understanding what you're saying. You disagreed with the other poster saying that this was the next gen game to get, saying it's gameplay was uninteresting, but then you also said not judge the games because no one has played them yet.

Hell no was a comment to the "the next gen title to get". I just find other titles more interesting than Killzone at launch. Not saying the gameplay looks bad, because it doesn't. I will most likely pick up Killzone sometime early next year, after playing through the games that I find more interesting.

Okay, I've decided. I'm going to buy this at launch and then Watch_Dogs at Christmas.

Until I change my mind again, damn you decisions

I wish they got a clue and let us play both sides of the conflict instead of the isa all the time. Or focus one game on one side another on the other. I played most of them and its what missing most from the games for me (along with them actually using any of the lore they have created.. god forbid).

Got a link to prove that? Last I heard was that it runs at 60 frames, "most of the time."

it is v-synced at 60 FPS, but it drops frames under very hectic loads. Same thing as BF3 on my computer, I lock it at 60 FPS, but it drops frames during heavy scenes.

locking newest games at 60 FPS is hard. You don't want to lower the effects, but you also want a smooth experience. Tough choices!

Just saw video showing the latest version of the forest level

*All lod problems have been fixed - no more pop ups!
*They have added moving mist to the level -looks rad
*they have added god rays to the level. Allthe trees are casting god rays (
*it has screen tearing but the frame rate is solid
*depth of field is back and they have added object based blur
*particle effects seem lacking compared to the latest multiplayer footage

The fog/mist really changes the look of the level. Looks wayyy better than the e3 build. This is a work in progress build it is missing effects and I am sure the screen tearing will be addressed.

Good Post OP - It's looking VERY next gen-ish now....absolutely beautiful visuals

Screen tearing?? Your fucking kidding me right? I know some can deal with it, but for me, screen tearing is the worst thing. Get rid of the god rays or something else, but I pray by final there is no screen tearing. I love that they fixed the lod issues as that was pretty obvious.

Just watched the video and I hope it is the video that is making the screen tearing seem a lot worse than other games that have tearing. I know the op said there is screen tearing, but in that video the tearing is pretty horrid.

It will be fixed 100% sure.

Derrick, have you played STALKER? I think you'd really like it.

yea STALKER is great, but way too much walking in that game. Those x-labs were creepy as heck :P

I kinda liked Metro more than Stalker though

footage is offscreen but the iq looks clean. TMAA in action? Or is FXAA still there? Can't really tell

Seriously? It's off-screen footage compressed to hell by Youtube. There's no way you can tell what AA solution Guerilla are using. If your eyes were that good, you would have noticed the shadow maps popping in as the player made his descent to the guard tower. I doubt this is even a new build. None of the devs mentioned anything about it and it looks exactly like the footage shown at TGS.
