<Downforce generated at the bottom by the Fan>
Maximum output 9800N(1000kgf), equal to 1.63G

Wow you could turn it upside down and use it as a helicopter!

Didn't Top Gear review a car that the makers claimed generated enough downforce to drive on the top of a tunnel above a certain (attainable) speed?

From the upcoming PSM3 Gran Turismo article:
All of these paragraphs are direct excerpts. I left out most of the information we already know.

Cars
Of the roughly 1000 cars in GT5, about 800 are standard models. Mostly brought over from GTPSP, they're shiny, HD and still more detailed than any vehicle in Prologue. These vehicles only suffer scrapes and scratches, but it's crash consequences that matter. A trip to the gravel trap - or worse, the metal railings - in any car could prove race ending. Think broken gearboxes, brake failures and even engine stalls. All cars regardless of type have fully functioning front reverse lights, horns and get dirty during races.

Dynamic Weather/Time
Snow is similarly impressive, hitting the windscreen in thick clumps before melting into water and being wiped from view. Flakes start to clump in thick grass, tree branches and tracksides before slowly setting onto the track, one lap at a time. It's not just how stunning the weather effects look, though, but their unpredictability which most impresses. Weather even alters the temperature, air pressure and humidity on the track. Forecasts are available for each race, but in a cruelly realistic twist, aren't always accurate. During long races, clouds move across the sky, darkening the track and forcing a constant re-assessment of your race strategy. Failure to read the changing conditions could mean the difference between victory and crashing out.
Daylight alters during longer races, too. Night slowly sets in, reducing visibility and necessitating the use of hi-beam headlights over normal ones. In a 24 hour race, the sky's hue changes slowly fades to black and back without any animations. Stunning. In keeping with the hyper-realism, Polyphony have even included 'time-syncing' on real-life circuits. This allows you to match the time of day in-game to that of the real track - meaning if it's night time in Monza, you'll have to race in the dark. Yet another unnecessary detail that only GT offers..

Soundtrack
Just like the PSP version, you'll get the chance to play whatever music you have on your hard drive, so you're only limited by the size of your disk and the range of your MP3 collection.

Customization
You can tell when you're tailing a car with a racing exhaust rather that its standard factory parts, because it looks bigger and sounds louder than normal. You can tune electric cars. Tuning menus are more interactive and visual that before, too, with a much slicker user interface in the garage - though there's no livery editor this time.

Rally
Each race in the rally career is run on a randomly-generated point-to-point course with the aim, like in real rallying, being to beat your competitors times rather than race them head to head. Every rally is also affected by GT5's stunning weather engine, too. There's even a co-driver calling out each corners severity and suggested approach.

Nascar
NASCAR in GT only comprises a few 'official' tracks - including Daytona and Indianapolis - and roughly ten real drivers. The license will also play to the real sport's rules, such as yellow flags and pitting. The NASCARs are also the only vehicles which have bonnets break open and rear windows shatter.

Excerpts from Interview with Kaz

Dirt Track on the online mode, you can drive with many more cars that way. And the Rally mode is different again; each car is on a time trial, staggered by 10 seconds.

Wet-weather pit strategy can make or break your race. You will have to make the right decisions at the right time, and learn to be fast in both wet and dry conditions. This, with 16- player, private online race events, is going to be unlike anything we've seen before. I can't wait.

What do you think Polyphony Digital think of GTPlanet?
They are familiar with the site and keep a close eye on our forums as our members share their thoughts, ideas and critisms. Nearly all of the major features the GTPlanet user base has asked for were implemented in Gran Turismo 5. I think they appreciate our feedback and interest in their work.

more detailed? nah, but we totally had a standard car on prologue, the gtr proto and it looked on par except for the tinted windows

The GTR Proto was definitely NOT a standard car.

What was the deal with that car? I wasn't really following along at that time.

The car was made available in GT5 Prologue even before it had been officially announced, but it had the front and back covered with plastic (see above). The final car was officially revealed in both GT5P and real life at the same time.

meh i still say thats the standard cars quality, even in the standards vid we got, the muscle cars and other road cars looked like the gtr imo

I don't know how far the collaboration went between Nissan/PD, but the GTR proto looks like a development mule used for testing on the 'ring.

Well, since it doesn't have a cockpit view, it's certainly not premium.
Well the car isn't available anymore so i guess it's neither... facepalm.

That wasn't the only car to come out without a cockpit, but they updated the game to add them. It's still a premium...

Well, if you can't tell the difference then good for you :P You'll enjoy the other 800 cars more. But there's clearly a difference though and that's modeled in the same detailed as the premium cars.

I'd wager that had more to do with not being able to show off the cockpit of a prototype car before it had been properly announced. They could have covered it with black plastic I suppose.

THIS IS FAAAAAST! At the beginning I thought the video is 1,5x speed or something :lol

I hooked up a room-fan to the bottom of my van, plus a fan blowing on the top to push it down. I promptly crashed, pulling 15g's in a corner and passing out.

Seeing as Sony are posting their Q2 numbers tomorrow, I wouldn't bet against tomorrow as being when we'll get the new release date...or at the very least a clue as to whether it will make this year or not...as guidance for the PS3 business.

Where'd the end of the month anouncement of the release date anouncement come from? Wasn't that an official presser?

The prototype didn't have an interior either.

In next weeks Dutch TV magazine Veronica (number 44) there is a special about GT5. In small print it states that it is a commercial addition, so probably paid and previewed by Sony. I translated the most interesting parts (don't expect too much, because no new features are introduced) and clearly it was written before the delay was anounced.

Millions of fans have been looking out for GT5 for over four years. According to some GT5, exclusive to the PS3, is the mother of all race games. This fall 'The Real Driving Simulator' at last will become reality and gamers can experience what Sony Playstation calls the biggest game release ever.

… but also the VW vans and the latest hybrid cars, like the Tesla Roadster are in.....

There are more than 100 tracks in 20 different locations in GT5.

Track creator: The player has a few parameters at his disposal, among which are the number of corners, the length of the longest straight and the difficulty of the track. The start and finish of the track don't have to be at the same location. Tracks can be created upto about 10 km in length. Next to theme, weather conditions and location the player has the option the set the race length and the number of laps. Settings can be valid for the entire track or per sector. Another setting is how often a certain corner is to be taken, and how sharp and wide they must be.

Every rip, bump and almost all gravel grains are digitally rendered on the tracks. Yamauchi and his team visited all known car manufactures and development centres, raced on all tracks themselves and used satellite pictures, blueprints and telemetry to recreated the tracks as accurately as possible. Recreating Rome and Madrid took over two years.

Ofcourse these tracks are not available before you completed a number of tests. But players with GT PSP can transfer their cars to GT5 (editor, that's me: huh, what has that to do with tracks??, no mention about transferring cars from Prologue though). If you don't have GT PSP than you can unlock cars and tracks in various modes, like career mode, championship races and license tests. For the more casual player a kind of “best of GT5” is available in arcade mode.

Weather: Heavy snow fall makes the track more slippery and creates rutting (spoorvorming in Dutch) with each lap.

Next to races in daylight, some races are at late afternoon, at sunrise, or during the night. All can have rain and/or snow conditions.

Special events: The Mercedes Benz driving school challanges take place at the Nürburgring and features two cars. One of them being the SLS AMG.

Create your own special events: Not part of the Special Events, but an important extra option is to create your own special events. Sony call this “What if” experiences, like the X1 prototype and concepts cars from the seventies. Players not only can recreate races from the past, but rewrite racing history!

B-spec mode: Upto six (6) drivers. Teach them, be hard on them, but not too hard, as they might get frustrated. Sometimes you've got to yell in your microphone to keep them focussed. The better you guide them, the more their performance and self assurance improves. Once you've got four (4) B-spec drivers, you can enter 24-hours races. A well balanced team is recommended.

In Photo Mode pictures can be taken in 3D too.
Headtracking only in cockpit view.

Online: Upto 16 players. Keep track of your friends' performances via various lobbies. Cars can be given away. Not only the cars you unlocked, but also the cars you have already tuned. You can share racing tips and tracks. During online races you can spectate others and there will be special competitions and also various leader boards keeping track of the best scores.

Create your own special event YESS! A race point system would be awesome (or maybe an option to set our own rules/penalties/rewards/car line-up/car class) F1 championship in GT5 here I come! :D

Will this work online? Will someone be able to create special events for others to play them? This could fit perfectly for GAF Racing League.

Well, you can share your custom made tracks online. I think that's pretty much a given.

Play.Create.Share :D

Kaz doesn't believe in unnecessary detail. Those lug nuts are there for a reason. ;)

I usually just blow out from the sunroof real hard when cornering. Way cheaper. Sometimes I turn purple, or pass out from the lack of oxygen though, but the corners I can take when I do this is, amazing.

BREAKING NEWS

So I got the inside scoop on Gran Turismo's delay and release date from a couple of clerks at my local Gamestop.

Apparently, the game was delayed, not due to piracy issues, but because Yamauchi wasn't happy with the way that two cars sounded.

Also, they assured me that Gran Turismo 5 will not come out this year, but rather in January. I told them that I hadn't realized that the game has gotten a revised release date. They assured me it had.

Going to the computer one of the clerks told me the new release date was January 1st. My suggestion that January 1st might simply be a placeholder date because 1) It's a national holiday and many retail outlets would be closed, delivery services like UPS and FEDEX wouldn't be delivering, etc. and 2) January 1st is on a Saturday, not a Tuesday was met with blank stares.

So, yeah, January 1st confirmed by a couple of Gamestop employees.
