New Grand Theft Auto V screens and interview

It's effectively 3 times, also Just Cause 2 was several times that.

I think JC2 is a good example of why big isn't always better. I love the game, but everything was the same except for some key points. A lot of the towns and areas had a "did I already do this?" feel to it.

That's what I like about GTA games, each little subsection seems so unique and having a huge world like this with R* behind it has my hopes extremely high.

still feels like Rockstar is hamstrung by the hardware. Wish this was a launch title on PS4/Xbox 720 so the hardware could finally match their ambitions.

well said, I totally agree with you. The locations in Just Cause 2 have no personality or vibe, they are just copy and pasted towns and locations

Yep no houses but you can spend your money on other stuff.

lame... I love buying houses because they are one of the few things that you have to spend a lot of cash on. Otherwise you have millions and millions in the end and nothing to spend on...

oh well.

Ok, so here's some tidbits from the the Dutch website Gamer.nl GTA V preview:

- GTA V is 5 times bigger than the world of Red Dead Redemption, according to the author.

This means nothing if 95% of the game's buildings are glorified cardboard boxes

Yep.

One of the things I love about GTA games is getting to know the cities and the countryside. Being familiar, not needing the GPS, knowing shortcuts, and so on.

Slightly worried that something three times the size of RDR (which was big enough already) might be too much.

Maybe the game itself will reward you with some new estate after a mission every now and then? I don't really care about buying property like that though. But it would be nice if you get more houses.

Yeah, I suppose that will be the case, like in GTA IV basically.

The waterfall in this shot has me hyped! It just seems so... vast and expansive!

So the game is 5X bigger than Red Dead and San Andreas yet there is no San Francisco and Vegas in this version. I am actually pretty underwhelmed. I doubt the series will ever reach that San Andreas high point again. Are RPG elements back too?

The whole putting weight on and bulking up is out according to the info we had in GI.

Being a launch title would bring it's own problems.

Less userbase would certainly be at the top of that list as reading about the scale of things this game sounds expensive.

The comments about not having big celebrities is disappointing IMO. Axle Rose on the radio in SA was hilarious. Same with Shawn Ryders cameo.

Interiors don't mean anything to me unless they put things to do in them. Otherwise they're empty buildings that take up extremely valuable system resources for no reason.
True but IV was on IIIs level of can't enter shit.

They could render more peds in a building, let you go berserk.
Think about entering a police bldg and getting a shoot out like Max Payne or something.

You could enter and explore a significantly higher amount of builds in IV compared to III. Some of the chases that brought you to the rooftops were my favorite parts of IV.

Game looks terrific. Character models look much better to me than they did in GTA IV; Nico looked like a fucking leper. If they can deliver on performance, I'm there day 1.

Mark my words, this game will be a PS4 / Xbox 720 launch title (same day as it comes out on PC). This is why they haven't talked about or shown the PC version. THIS SHOULDNT SHOCK ANYONE, THE PS2 GTA GAMES WERE RELEASED ABOUT 6 SEPERATE TIMES.

it´s UK IGN, you are probably redirected to US IGN.

Theyve taken it down, it probably got posted too early.

It was mostly just a summary of the demo mission. I didn't notice many new details.

- Twice the variety of pedestrians as in GTA IV.
- The view from the helicopter during the mission showed an area 3.5 times the size of RDR.

I wish that was true.

The one reservation I have from these awesome screen shots is that I am hoping that these are organic moments in the game, not planned out or semi-scripted mission sequences. GTA4 screen shots showed off a lot of wow early on, and because of the nature of GTA:SA, VC, and III, gave you the impression that those -wow- moments were organic.

In GTA4, there were a bunch of screens that hinted at that organic gameplay -
  • The helicoptor dropping police/FIB agents onto your truck on a getaway/multiplayer mission
  • Players holding onto the backs of trucks and flying down the street
  • The helicoptor train stuff from the DLC (by this point, I doubt anybody really thought that this would be organic because we had played GTA4, but if you showed this before GTA4's release you might have thought that was possible)

But, in the end, those were all very controlled, scripted mission sequences that you couldn't do on your own. It was a major let down for me. My friends and I tried unsuccessfully for some time to jump onto the back of cars and trucks in multiplayer, but alas, you could not... your guy just glitched out and hung onto nothing. And the scene of agents dropping from a chopper onto a truck was a complete aberration.

So when I see the sky diving with a train passing through a mountain pass and scaling the Vinewood sign, I'm hoping that those are organic moments in the game, not scripted sequences that you only do in a mission under controlled circumstances.

I also think this is a perfect contender for a transitional title as well as Watch_Dogs. *marking your words*

I agree, to me its sort of like Watch Dogs. GTA V is so blatantly obviously going to next gen that it might as well be taken as a fact.

I just don't see Rockstar undercutting PS3/360 sales with a next generation version so soon. They didn't even do it last generation. If there is a PS4 and Xbox 720 version, it's not coming out for a few years until after GTA V comes out.

The thing with Rockstar games is they continue to sell for years after they come out. Gameinformer just said GTA IV hit 25 million in sales (maybe it was shipped), whatever it is, it had shipped over 22 million copies in Sept 2011 according to Wikipedia. It's still selling millions of copies on 360, PS3 and PC almost 5 years later.

San Andreas came out for PC and original Xbox 6 months before the 360 launched and a year before that on PS2, it still sold well despite the next generation of consoles. Just like GTA V will sell even better than IV despite new consoles coming soon.

If there is a next gen console version of GTA V, it'll be a while. They'll wait for the user base of next generation of consoles to grow before doing it. I'd imagine the (eventual) PC version is the closest we'll come to a next gen version of this game. IMO of course...

I'm wondering if you can mess around with this character switching device when you're not on a mission. For example, one guy is on a bike, rides off a mountain, another character is in a helicopter. The guy on the bike goes right through the helicopter and lands on the other side. Something like that.

Don't expect to be able to rappel down from any building at any time, for one.
It's just a one time mission scripted thing.

Also all these GTA previews are always filled with bullshit or stuff that get taken out, so keep that in mind, too.
