New Hitman: Absolution trailer [By Visual Works (Final Fantasy CG), out now]

If nothing else, this game is sure making me go back and play the other Hitman games. I only seriously played Blood Money and have pretty minimal experience with the rest of them, I plan to change that.

It's the fact that the assassins are dressed like pornstars. Hell, latex nun outfits even qualify as fetish.

but but but previous games totally had those in the level that took place in a porn studio where they were shooting a movie about sexy nuns, way to be selective, you would hate on this game regardless.

*facepalm*

diverse people, DIVERSE is the key word.

Night shift at IO

Wow, people seem to be really offended by a CGI trailer. I thought the nuns/religious imagery (i.e. the crucifixes everywhere) were a play on the "absolution" title, and the latex suits were just a way of generating some extra buzz (and definitely seems to be working).

God, I hope their gameplay looks good. I didn't mind what they've shown so far but nothing's struck me as that glorious murder sandbox of Blood Money just yet.

the keep saying that... then they release a trailer full of nuns wearing latex catsuits.

just show a video of the same map being played different ways. I don't care how boring they think it is, that's all people want.

this is why people keep mentioning Conviction, the exact same thing happened before launch.

I really don't understand some of you who are questioning, or wondering if this game is just gonna be another shooter, have none of you played the sniper challenge?

At any rate i'm more excited for this game today than I was before the trailer.....

The problem is that it will never be a good show for the sandbox. You can't just show freedom in a trailer because it's still played one way. I had the problem with the deus ex trailers - looked like everything was layed out in front of the player.

Even then they still showed multiple ways to go about things in the trailers.

Also the gameplay was still very much Deus Ex, unlikt this game where it seems we will be playing a hitman who doesn't perform hits on anyone.

DX:HR had the advantage of that 10-hour demo leak which probably did an insane amount of good towards drumming up hype just by virtue of the fact that it fuckin' delivered.

The answer is clear: IO Interactive must leak a substantive multi-hour build (or maybe a level or two) roughly six months before launch.

The trailer looks ok. I don't think that anything IO is showing regarding the game actually represents it's true content. H:SC is very hitmaney, though I wouldn't have expected it. But hopefully there are also some levels where 47 is the hunter and not the hunted, like in the most footage and trailers we've seen.

why the trend in this generation,to develop sequels that are not in any way related to the supposed prequels?

videogames aren't movie guys,it's not like you can just put the same characters and call it a sequel..videogames have gameplay, and people who play them expect to find the same (or improved) gameplay in the next titles in the series, not a completely different one.

You make it sound like Absolution is going to be a RTS or something.

They should be short and brutal, and definitely shouldn't be him rushing a pack of killer nuns.
Sure, but they DO need work. The animations in previous Hitman games were terrible and need work. They needed to do something.

It's turning into Splinter Cell conviction is what it is doing.
Which I actually loved, so that's not really a negative. :P

Like...what?

47 shooting gas cans and taking on armed thugs?

You are not forced to shoot the gas can, you are not forced to do anything showed in that trailer. Jesus...

That's why I said I understand why it's hard to show this game off. It would need a long walkthrough of some sorts. I am really looking forward to E3, hope they have some good stuff.

I ain't forced to buy it either. Because it doesn't look worth buying.

Okay.

What exactly in that trailer made you stop worrying? Was it the inception horns?

it was:

-the opening where he approaches a gate of sorts leading to a building, which is very reminisce of opening missions in previous Hitman games like Blood Money and Silent Assassin, if not exactly the same formula.

-the stealth kills with fiber wire and other various items. the added stealth options like cover and using ducts.

-the part where he takes out someone silently and then takes their outfit

-the part where he's moving a body and hiding it in a cabinet

-the classic dual silenced handguns

-the large open areas such as the outdoor setting in the trailer

-and the always present option of using non silenced guns, except this time gunplay seems to be much improved.

that was all pure Hitman, i don't see what the problem is.

Ideally it wouldn't be there at all because you're playing a silent assassin, not Rambo.
It's a little hard to take this argument seriously when Blood Money had an entire mechanic revolving around remotely detonated mines. Blowing up a gas can and then standing there in disguise while the rest of the guards come rushing in is a perfectly valid tactic.

Blood Money had remotely detonated mines that you yourself placed in the environment. You COULD be an idiot about it and put it randomly on the ground, but you could also place the mine on a chandelier and blow it up as your target is under it.

The thing in the video is just a video game red barrel. That's kinda different.

I wasn't really holding that against this Hitman. Just saying in my perfect world that wouldn't be there at all because shooting exploding barrels and the such isn't silent or stealthy.

I did like tweaking the BBQ grill in Blood Money causing it to explode when used though. It wasn't silent but it was stealthy :D

I've never played a Hitman game, but after watching that gameplay vid (and noticing some of the things you've posted)...I'll make this my first one, methinks.

Never paid much attention to this series, but seems like it's pretty cool.

Lol Skilletor.

Go play Blood Money right now, still one of the best games ever.

i don't understand your logic. that tactic in the trailer was completely a player choice. the player decided to lure the enemy to that exact spot and shoot the canister. could have done something stealthier, also could have just done a headshot with a silenced handgun. just because the option is there for the explosion, means it shouldn't be there?

Is it on PC (with pad support)?

I will do this thing.

Yes but I would recommend not playing with a pad actually. I'm not sure if it has pad support, but like I said if it does I would still recommend using a kb/m.

And honestly it's really a great game, def worth a playthrough.

Does it represent classic Hitman? No. Does it represent 47 as a badass? Totally.

The true badass 47 was the one that would clear a level and eliminate his target without firing a single bullet. Then casually walk away from the scene like a boss while all the clueless NPC's continued going about their normal routine. Meanwhile, a high profile target surrounded by tight security has just been killed and his entire security detail and bodyguards still don't even know what the fuck happened.

That is the real badass 47, not this lame-ass corny MGS4 wannabe action hero in the trailer.

Yes, the old hitman games gave choice, yadda yadda, bla bla. Some people played the game like a shooter, whatever, that's fine. But I've gotta say, (not directed at the quoted poster) it's extremely disingenuous to use that "choice" argument against people who liked the old mechanics, because this new direction seems to be taking choice away (the choice of total stealth, not even firing any guns) from people who liked to play the game that way.

Yeah that's not creative, stealthy, or fun. That kind of stuff is meant for the bros this game is trying to attract.

Yeah this looks like shit. If there's a good walkthrough of a level at E3 that shows any of the same kind of gameplay I expect from Hitman, I'll gladly eat crow. But right now, from everything they've shown it looks like it's going to suck.

I don't care that 47 can see through walls now, or fight like Jason Bourne and kill 40 hot nuns every mission. I want to dress up as a chicken and drop a chandelier on someone like I was never there. That's what makes Hitman fun for me. Maybe that's still in there but IO is definitely not catering to that anymore.

But if Assassin's Creed/SC:Conviction starring a bald guy with a bar code looks fun to you, more power to you. It's just not what I want.

Danes, huh. If they were Norwegians, they would have done the job right.
Well, Funcome is the exception

On a more serious note, I really don't know what to think of this title. Maybe its one of those games that, if you ignore the mindset of it being part of the Hitman franchise, it could be a great game.

Lets wait and see!

i didn't say it was stealthy (altho taking out someone with a silenced gun is technically stealthy lol), and you can't really be telling other people if its fun or not just because its not how you play. if you wanted to do something else, more like the previous games, like not even confronting the guard, i'm sure you can do that.

The true badass 47 shot a housekeeper in the gut with a shotgun and her ragdoll flew across a swimming pool.

The true badass 47 walked into the back of a surveillance vehicle and shot the three agents inside while confused.

Damn, I need to play some Hitman. Why the hell isn't Hitman: Contracts available?

All they have to do at E3 is have a demo of a regular level where you use social stealth to finish your mission. So far I've seen 47 hide behind corners Conviction style and walk in corridors with a cop disguise.

A good Hitman game is a game with great level design. There is no way whoever the fuck is running IO doesn't know this and the fact that there isn't a single hint of this in all the footage released is what worries me. I couldn't care less about the nuns, that trailer was terrible but the story in Hitman games has always been garbage anyway.

All I want is for IO to prove me wrong.

I'm terribad at kb/m. Been playing console too long (just bought a pc not very long ago). :/

its on PC, no controller support. although that can be worked around with the xpadder program or pinnacle game profile.

I see Blood Money is out in 360. I'll just get that. :D

So without having to read 16 pages here... what's the general consensus on the trailer?

I thought it was okay. Sounds like the majority hates it and/or labels it as everything wrong with the industry.

Yeah that's not creative, stealthy, or fun. That kind of stuff is meant for the bros this game is trying to attract.

Using a silenced gun is pretty stealthy actually. Creative no, fun (well with the shooting mechanics of the last game it wasn't) but if the mechanics are as good as they appear to be this time then it can be fun. That's the glory of Hitman. You can do it any way you want to. The sniper challenge preorder thing confirmed that for me. The fact that the entire purpose is to just take out a target (which people weren't sure assassinations were even going to be present) and that there are multiple ways to do so by using the environment soothed any worries I had. Yeah the ridiculousness of this trailer is over the top, but I still enjoyed it because I thought it looked awesome and I'm not going to get up in arms over some nun assassins.

There is zero proof at all that they have done this.
