New IP you really liked, but Dev died or whatever forcing no sequel

It sold like absolute shit.

They're still around though, they just have library of games that sell better.

I think Asura's Wrath still did better than that .hack fighting game they were making. I wouldn't be surprised to see CC2 do something else like Asura's Wrath with an existing property. Probably an anime with the same style that isn't trying so hard to be a fighting game, but failing (::points squarely at Naruto::)

came to post this one of the best new IP this gen

We need more diverse themes in the WRPG genre because scifi and dark fantasy are quickly becoming derivative and cliche.

one of the best new IP last gen that ended with a cliff hanger and then Midway went belly up. I wonder who owns the rights to this and The Suffering?

I know this isn't going to be the most popular choice around here as the game was generally panned on gaf (and everywhere, really). But the people who were dedicated to this game know how much potential was there. 256 player battles, vehicles, bunkers, turrets, actual ranks in the game that meant something (like the leader of your platoon could call in air strikes or block the enemies radar).

It was, in my opinion, the most hardcore shooter on consoles this gen. It was basically impenetrable to new players which made the whole 'free to play' release a complete failure. It took atleast 50 hours of play to memorize each of the humongous maps. It also took a long time to understand why the bunkers, the AA and other targets were important to attack/defend.

The thing that took it to an entire different level for me though is the absolute beast mode that good players could go on from time to time. Now it took you to be on defense, usually, and in a part of the map you know perfectly... for the squad going up against you and the nearby squads to be fairly dumb. But a typical game of MAG would end for a normal player with like 20 kills and 18 deaths. Someone amazing at the game could break 100 though. Just absolutely go off and get in this zone where you are just fucking RAMBO-ing the entire other army. I never got 100, i broke 50 a couple times, but goddamn it was just amazing to watch.

Unfortunately the high entry level of skill and game knowledge needed combined with the fact that it wasn't call of duty meant that MAG lived a pretty quiet life with a small but dedicated fanbase. And now, of course, Zipper is no more. But for two straight gens they have given me my favorite shooters for each. Socom 2 and now MAG.

I know Ninja Theory are still around, and Sony own the IP but I don't see a sequel being made. I know there was a rumour that SCE Cambridge were working on it but then it also emerged they cancelled it because it wasn't commercially/economically viable or something.

What Sony should do, is get a team like Ready at Dawn to make a prequel game, say Heavenly Sword: Origins for Vita. Give it another shot at the public and see if there's still enough interest to warrant a full on Heavenly Sword II for PS4. Please!

Not what this thread is about. It's about sequels being impossible because the dev studio shut down or is re purposed or otherwise not in a position to make it

CC2 is doing very well

Hardly any one else has answered in the spirit of the OP, so why start now?

Initially released on PS2, later ported to Xbox, PC and eventually PSP. Neither version was successful saleswise. A sequel was rumored shortly before the original's release but Konami probably didn't expect the game to bomb so hard. Maybe they should have included the MGS 2 demo with this one insted of ZOE.

Team Bondi is no more and its remnants are working on Whore of the Orient, so I have no idea what has become of the L.A. Noire IP. Rockstar owns the rights now and I'm not sure how eager they are to work on a sequel given the unique, expensive motion capture tech involved with the first game. I'd love a sequel though.

Great little action game here with plenty of character, fun vechile sections, and some of the more enjoyable "Take over a bad guy!" mechanics, going inside their body and communicating with the other bad guys.

Didn't sell very well, there were bought by Blizzard in '05. Last I heard they were working on Starcraft: Ghost...

:/

edit: KRYPTO I LOVE YOU

haha Metal Arms brothers forever!

The game showed a lot of promise and definitely could see the potential for an awesome series there.

YESSSSS! So this! So hard! <3

Sleeping Dogs.....

Have we had confirmation that we won't see a Sleeping Dogs sequel?

I know its 'below sales targets,' but those targets were ridiculous.

Here is a quote from a Square Enix employee, open world games like Sleeping Dogs and JC2 will see typical long-tail sales on the PC platform.

Eventually, the game will get to its sales target.

They have basically confirmed sequels to all these titles already.

One is even getting a new studio to make it. (Hitman)

Here's Sleeping Dogs:

It's worth keeping in mind most of these titles will have notably shorter dev cycles since they're sequels.

The thread title and OP do not say this thread is exclusively about dev closures, just games that are never going to get a sequel.

Well based on his exclusion of Shenmue in the OP, I figured it was intended for games with specific circumstances preventing a sequel from being made. Like the studio closing down or being gutted or repurposed by their parent company to making map packs or something

not just speculation based on sales/cost

Hardly any one else has answered in the spirit of the OP, so why start now?

Because we have enough of "bomba" posts in the threads when the games come out.

Folklore really was an amazing game. Loved everything about it, the settings, the worlds, characters etc. just a near perfect game!

Don't know what happened to the devs but I really liked Dark Sector, thought it was amazing actually.
Amen. Using the glaive was gimmicky as hell, but it was a fun game. Too bad it had a tacked on multiplayer mode.

The Suffering had it all. It had a great, interlinked environment to explore, it had amazing, well-thought out enemies, the bosses were fully realised with great back-stories and personalities, the weapons were gritty and the silent protagonist Torc was pitch perfect.

The second was a disappointment, which dried up all chance for more. Would love to see it rebooted.

???

IO is still around. They keep promising they'll make another one.

Last I heard, there was difficulty acquiring the IP from EA or something like that. I get the feeling the closest thing we'll ever see to another Freedom Fighters are the handful of squad command missions in the first Kane and Lynch :(

I only played the demo but I had a ton of fun with it. I'd literally spends hours playing on that single map. I think the servers are still up too since I was able to play it a few months ago. I'd probably check out a new end-gen or next-gen sequel.
