New Metal Gear Solid 4 screens (SPOIIIILLLLERS)

Ok. Heard the theme for about 5 times. Even listened to it while watching MGS4 trailer. It fits, I'm used to it, and its good. Will miss the original theme but this is a great substitute.

I actually like the new theme quite a bit more. It seems much more restrained and much less bombastic than the original main theme.

I started playing through MGS 2 again, just got to the first section of the tanker. It makes me really sad that they didn't pay for a license or something because the theme is incredible in MGS2. I like it in 3, but 'you never forget your first' kind of thing.

Anyone know if Rika Muranaka is back for MGS4?

I'm so f*ckin pissed off about the exclusion of the MGS main theme.

Harry Gregson Williams was so good at remixing that core theme into other songs in both MGS2 and MGS3..

I was looking forward to seeing him do the same for MGS4.

the only games ill be getting for it for it in the next 3 years will probably be gta4, mgs4, and resident evil 5

i luv ma sekwels

The MGS 2 Theme was used in MGS 3 as well. It was remixed using other elements. For example, it was slowly fretted on an acoustic guitar in one of the trailers. The original MGS theme wasn't bad but Gregson-Williams gave it it's soul.

The "new" theme composed for Sons of Liberty became the theme for Metal Gear Solid. It's going to be interesting if they can develop a theme to fill the void. The woman's singing in the intro movie as seen in the trailers is pretty hypnotic and dystopian. I love it.

MGS theme, MGS4 version.

But that russian kick was introduced in Sons of Liberty, or was it before?
The original "MGS Theme" appeared in all the MGS1 trailers before the game came out. It also appears in the game itself during the credits (if you beat it three times) and in the intro for VR missions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNnoXFNlt-g

TAPPY was the composer, Harry Gregson-Williams did his arrangement of it for MGS2 onward.

Hmm. How sure are you that's real? It seems a bit convoluted to me. I like it from 3:00 onward where it gets acoustic and soft but before that it seems like they mixed too many things together to get the "epic" sound.

MGS 4 > GTA IV.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is much more deserving of all the 10.0s, in my opinion. GTA IV is an amazing experience and in many ways you can't compare them, but the story and the drive of this game is unparalleled. No story in gaming is as enthralling than that of MGS. The gameplay and the storytelling is reaching new heights and while I'm the biggest Grand Theft Auto fan out there, they can push that series much further.

I can't wait to get to play this.

But there are multiple segments on that theme. What you call the "MGS Theme" is that part?
Ya, basically. The track was called "Metal Gear Solid - Main Theme" back in MGS1. The section that plays from 00:15-01:05 on The VR Missions intro is the essense of it. The version in MGS2 that HGW composed is the most well-known arrangement.

Isn't it AMV?
lol no, that's the actual intro for MGS: VR Missions. It does look like an AMV though.

I liked the main theme of MGS3 and MGS2. I wished they did what Halo 3 did (they didn't fuck around with the main theme and just added stuff).

Edit: Don't get me wrong I liked the starting and middle bit of the new song, but when it came to the "epic" part it sounded like Snake can't get an erection in the middle of sex, he's just tired out.... (2minute 40 seconds onwards).

Yeah, that's the right description...and I fear I have to think about it in every epic moment. I know it's strange but it pisses me so much off that my hype died a little bit. :(

Holy crap. Thanks for the clarification.

To think that all these years I believed HGW composed that theme...

From what?

"I thought about giving up," says Kojima. "But I had to finish it for the fans."

"Now, there is a casual boom," he says.

He's talking about taking risks, how it's important to take risks. How risks are important for the future of gaming.

"I'm not thinking of a Renaissance," he says, "but I'd like a return to gaming." Kojima has left the stage.

This. It's true what he says.

Haha, yeah this is true. The Metal Gear Saga song starts off fine, but it ends rather miserably because he can't seem to reach a good climax.

This. It's true what he says.

"Casual games have become mainstream in the industry," he declared. "It's not just a Japanese phenomenon but also something that's happening worldwide. There are new markets and possibilities opening up thanks to the trend, which is great. But on the other hand, we shouldn't forget about the hardcore gamers whose lives are about videogames. The gamers who consider video games a subculture, and enjoy taking their time to sit down and play games that gives them energy and courage. I wanted to remind those gamers about the fun of video games. I know that we're going against the trend, but we've been working hard for the past four years so that the fire [of non-casual games] won't blow out."

What are you guys complaining about? Isn't the second half of that Youtube link (2:40 onwards) the "main" part of the theme?

It's simply a remix. But it ain't the Theme we're looking for.

Check out Atonement though (don't have a link - yet):
CD2: 5. Atonement Nobuko Toda (4:48)

Maybe the first part, the second half is entirely new

What do you consider the MGS theme then?

that is the MGS3 music from near the end of the Shagohod chase. it isn't the main MGS theme.

oh and it sounds like Ennio Morricone's style *cough*

WTF is the main theme then if that's not it?

This is the MGS 'main theme' for the series since the first game (though in MGS1 it was not played until a rendition of it during the credits if I recall correctly).
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZfKA4b5SFq4

Hm, actually that video has the MGS3 part of the theme in the middle too.
But the beginning and end is the MGS main theme. Shiz, I hope that is in MGS4. :/

EDIT: Okay, this one is MGS main theme only http://youtube.com/watch?v=xW_tIeCFW1g

:( Those stupid Russians!!

Dude the Russians didn't ruin anything.
There was a danger for Kojima Production to get their asses sued, it's Tappy Iwase's fault.
Georgy Sviridov composed his stuff back in the 70s, Metal Gear games did not exist back then.....
