The guide is coming over a week earlier than the game?

Son of a bitch!!

You sure it won't get delayed to the 12th? Amazon.com says something else. Well it could also be an exclusive deal or something...

Hmm, looks like they did all the colouring on an uncalibrated BRAVIA or other wide-gamut display. (I suspect that's how Resistance ended up looking so bland as well)

It's a real shame, because these wide gamut displays are way off the HD spec, which is what developers should be designing for.
OK, so is there a way we could address this? At the moment, I using HDMI Full in conjunction with the 0-255 color space on my display. If I were to revert to the more limited color space while keeping HDMI Full mode enabled, we know what would happen, but would this actually work well with something like MGS4?

I'm contemplating if I should replay any of the MGS games. My fear is that if I finish a MGS game right before MGS4 is released, I could end up getting the "GTA4 syndrome", as in I'll quickly get bored because it's nothing special from the past interation, but the MGS series is one of my favorite franchises, so maybe it wouldn't happen. :lol

Every MGS game feels drastically different to me, in terms of setting, tone, and gameplay, plus they're not overly long and are never repetitive. I can never get burnt out on them. Plus MGS4 looks like the most drastic advancement yet. Play them, you pussy.

Is there a thread for topics like this? I am considering either getting a new LCD or plasma, and I am unsure of what to get...

I lost count of how many times I've replayed MGS1 thru 3 long, long ago. I'm sure I've played MGS1 at least 20 to 30 times at this point. MGS2, probably 12-15 times. MGS3, at least 10 I'm sure. After the Assassin Solid video hit on April 1, I started a new game of MGS1, then moved on to MGS2, then MGS3. Then back to MGS1... I went through the 1-3 cycle three times before I finally got bored. But as I'm concerned it's a flat fact that I will NOT be bored for even one second while playing MGS4. I'm pretty sure. :D

Wish I could say the same of Portable Ops, a.k.a. the only canon MGS game I'll never play more than once.

You're right. I should be safe. :lol

Bandana, Eye Patch, cigarettes, glasses, mustache, soundproof room with lock so nobody can disturb you, Rations like instant noodle, Gakko clock, MGS4 T-Shirt from Uniqlo and as DancingCactus77 mentioned a lot of Regain.

Eye patch isn't a good idea really. I don't want to play the game with only one eye o_o

Look what happens when I assign a wide gamut profile to this image:

I knew it was something. But why would they do that? Can't believe that they don't know about this. :)

You're waiting for the big boys reviews to come up? 1up, EGM, Edge and GS are jokes when it comes to PS3 game reviewing. They try to cater to their audience and get as many hits as possible instead of properly reviewing the games.

Wouldn' be surprised if the game got 8 from GS.

Not really, I'm not waiting for any reviews.

I've pre-ordered the PS3 bundle with MGS4 and I don't need reviews to tell my I have to buy a MGS game.

Also I clearly said I don't trust any online review sites. I used to trust only Gamespot when GregK used to be the editor, since their reviews were closer to my opinion on games, but that changed when he left along with half the other veteran staff (Gerstmann,Navarro,e.t.c). Now they are as shit as 1Up, IGN, e.t.c.

Is there any way to make it look a little less bland on my set? I have a 1080p Westinghouse LCD monitor.

Cranking up the colour control should help, but it won't be the same and going too high can cause clipping. (causes strong colours to just blend together into solid blocks of colour)

I should point out that the wide gamut profile I used will be somewhat larger than most HDTVs' wide gamuts, but I'm pretty sure that must be what's gone wrong.

no you won't, because you would be dead on the floor after i cut you.
No one cuts me unless I want them to, works well for general community morale to let someone cut you after being CQCd 5 times in a row.

So I was wandering the Times Square Virgin Megastore today... a sign next to the playstation display says they're going to hold a launch event for MGS4 on June 11th (12 midnight). Kojima will be there to sign copies of the game (the sign states you must purchase the game at the event) and take photos, etc. I cant find anything about it online though, so you probably won't believe me but the sign definitely said it and my reading comprehension can't be that bad.

I'll be in the city later running some errands but I think a sneaking mission to verify this is definitely in order.

Bam. I am so there.

Someone should make a GAF meet-up thread. O_o

I'm in Boston so I can just take the bus to NYC and go. My friend in NYC has been texting me like crazy when he saw this. My two problems are whether I should take Thursday and Friday off and I have the MGS4 LE pre-order'd in Boston at Gamestop and I do not want to miss out on the limited artbook.

Shit :(. I so wish I lived in NY right now.

We can be pretty awesome at times.

I wonder If I could get him to sign my metal gear solid game. Still own my original one that was purchased for me day one.

Has a cracked case though. And you do not want to see the booklet. :lol

So unbelievably jealous right now. Thinking about selling everything I have that's actually worth something and buying a plane ticket to the US. ;_;

Isn't the launch party in Tokyo, London, New York and LA?

In terms of launch promotions, plans for a "Metal Gear Solid 4 World Tour" are underway. Kojima and his staff will travel around the world to meet up with series fans. Tour locations include London, Madrid, Milano, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

One of the surprises at the press conference came at the very end. As the lights dimmed out for the event to end, a one-way dialogue very similar to the endings in the MGS games took place, hinting about a "worldwide live broadcast" and "VIP" events in Akihabara, New York, and Los Angeles on June 12.

The location hasn't been confirmed, but it will most likely be at the Gamestop in Universal Citywalk. Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa were there to sign copies of MGS3 a few weeks after it was released. Almost all major game/console launches in LA are held there. They've also hosted signings with Cliff Bleszinski, David Jaffe, and Koji Igarashi in the past.

HOLY SHIT! TIME TO CANCEL MY PREORDER :/

WHAT THE FUCK MAN!

Will they have LE there?

It's supposedly Gamestop exclusive. >__<

Worst case scenario.. I'd be buying both the LE and the normal edition. Except the "normal" edition would be signed by KOJIMA. :D

Oh, and I made a thread for those people purposely avoiding spoilers.

You can meet him at Paris on June 9 if you want :D (he'll also be in London and Amsterdam, but i dont know when exactly)

The Playstation: The Official Magazine review commented on the length of the ending. I'll spoiler tag it just for those that don't want to know how long it is.
It's nearly an hour long. MGS3's ending was a little under 30 minutes.

EPIC!!! :D

I remember someone saying he will use his PS3 just because he can't highlight spoilers. I think that was actually a great idea :lol

According to the German Official PlayStation Magazine, Snake'll be able to play our PS3 HDD music in his Ipod.

Also the review

Graphics: 18/20
Music/Sound: 20/20
Gameplay: 58/60
Overall: 96/100

Positive points: Worthy finale of the series, perfect camera, controls and sound, epic storyline, weapons
Negative points: Graphics could be a bit better, story too complex for people who are not into the series
