New MGSV previews from magazines sneaking in

The one thing I've been wanting to know for a long time is if there will be long linear indoor sequences that will play more like the traditional mainline MGSs. I'm more than perfectly fine with the more freeform outdoors gameplay (I loved GZ to bits), but big interior sections beyond the one in the opening would be a very nice addition and provide some variety that I'd appreciate a lot as a huge fan of the series.

I'm gonna say yes. PW had this.

But I was hoping to hear more about that. There was some evidence of this in the E3 2014 trailer (the scene with the MG hanger and shooting the zombie-ish soldiers to death in a hallway). Also, Sean Eyestone said you could visit that mansion in the jungle demo. So thankfully some interiors.

- Setting off the alarm in a large base causes reinforcements to drive in from smaller, adjacent bases nearby. You can choose to shut down the smaller bases first to stop potential reinforcements, or sever smaller communications dishes in the main base to cut them off. You can also call the chopper to act as a distraction in an adjacent base, which removes reinforcements from the the base you want to get into, thinning out the ranks.

This whole idea of enemy outposts being part of a network capable of dispatching troops where they're needed sounds so fucking cool. Man this game is going to be something special.

Wouldn't the format of the game be even better for you if you don't have much time to play? You could just do a single mission at a time.

It seems so, but there are too many choices to be made and I'd be obsessing about what I'd be optimally taking to the mission than playing that mission, probably. And to make that "informed" decision, I'd need to invest time in the game to learn its ins and outs, time I don't have.

mgs3 never gets enough credit for its gameplay and how much stuff you can do

I recognize that, which is another reason I'm excited for Phantom Pain. Kojima always had lots of truly creative gameplay concepts and I'm looking forward to seeing him focus and expand on those.

I need this game now.
Guess it's as good a time as any to finally play peace walker.

Yes. PW and GZ should be required before playing TPP. 3 is strongly encouraged. Seeing Rookie Big Boss was a great experience.

Damn I need to replay the whole series again before it releases lol. Gonna go 1-2-4-3-PW-GZ and end with TPP to bridge the gap.

Seriously, I hope I can skip them and not lose anything.
Nah seriously it's doing my head in
Both MGS and Resident Evil was a seamless experience and then they was split up into levels and now they have fucking openings and credits?!

- They say the opening hour is astonishing and one of the greatest they've ever seen. The original Phantom Pain/Moby Dick Studios trailer didn't touch on it's full brilliance. They say it's completely different in tone to the rest of the game and almost horror-esque.
*Sighhhhhhh*...such a P.T. (pity) smh...

I was going to do release order but your order sounds pretty good

Man that opening hospital scene is gonna be amazing.
HYPE.
The only thing that worries me is how much it's like PW. That game was aight.

Time to black out. Only MGO info for me now.

I need that opening segment seen by my eyes to send signals of pleasure to my brain. We're seeing Silent Hills Lite here folks!

But seriously, the idea of playing a physically weakened war vetern desperately trying to escape a hospital overrun with trained killers, possibly
biologically enhanced unkillable monsters
and horrifying hallucinations brought on by a psychic child in a gas mask is an experience I never knew I wanted until now.

I still crack up at Skullface wearing a domino mask. Like, dude you're not fooling anyone, if you wanted to hide that face, a hood and scarf be better than a tiny little domino mask.

Though of course it's Kojima, so there'll be a backstory there no doubt.

Beautiful. Looks a bit like Mad Max.

I was thinking exactly that, Skull Face there even reminds me of Nux. Holy fuck is it a gorgeous artwork.

It reminds me far more of Lone Ranger's mask, even Skull Face's entire getup resembles the Lone Ranger.

I hope I can jump into this game without any previous knowledge or experience from the earlier games. I tried playing the MGS HD collection but the controls are just so bad and outdated.

Maybe he might be a dude playing a dude playing another dude.

You should give it another shot, because you're missing out on some all-time classics :)

But I won't deny the controls of the older games are... unique. If you find yourself unable to play them, you should still be mostly alright for MGSV, which only takes place after MGS3 and Peace Walker (which is summarized in Ground Zeroes' menu)

Peace Walker 2 + graphics update for me.

The most disappointing thing is that the lengthy cutscene are indeed being cut down. I always loved those.
Not to say that I didn't enjoy Peace Walker tapes but they pale in comparison to MGS1 and MGS2 codec and even MGS3 radio.

I'm still immensely excited for this game even if not as much as I was for previous titles. Maybe this is a good thing.

Now 99% sure of a co-op mode being a long kept secret they'll reveal soon. But there's a chance it was planned and then dropped, I suppose.

They've said it's designed to accommodate people new to the series.

Ah too late now, sold my ps3 and xbox 360 so I couldn't even if I wanted to. I still have a psp though, so I'll give mgs 1 and peace walker a try on that before the phantom pain releases.

Yeah I just recently started playing the series and it takes a while to get used to the controls and the camera system.

It mostly works really well once you're used to them though. At first I was getting frustrated but after a while they just feel like second nature.

The only thing that remains terrible is the sniper aiming, it's just really inaccurate.

Although I'm super excited for this, I'm pretty worried that I'm going to wind up disappointed with the lack of cutscenes, mass of audio tapes and snake barely speaking. I don't know, I grew up with MGS and I loved all that stuff, and I'm sad to see it go.

I remember being so frustrated with MGS2 I put it down before I finished the Tanker chapter. After coming back to it and getting the hang of the controls, it's one of my favorite games.

Ground Zeroes' mechanics are a great improvement though, Snake has never felt so good to control.

One of the biggest complains about the Metal Gear series was always too much cutscenes, not enough gameplay.

Don't worry there will be plenty of cutscenes, just look at the E3 2013 and 2014 trailers.

Named Ah-Ha, Billy Idol and David Bowie as helicopter tunes to choose from

"So Boss, when's your next op gonna be?"

"IN A DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY"

On topic, everything in the OP pleases me.

I'll admit, there was almost certainly too much (especially MGS4, jesus fuck), but dude. Some of those cutscenes were amazing, and really added a lot to the impact of the game, it turned them into epics.

Must not read, must abandon the internet. Must not click spoilers... Oh screw that, I am too hyped for this game to not read all about it.

I want this bad... like a man lusts for a lover.

This is like, the only game I really care about this year. Batman, Tomorrow Children, and a few other games may pop up that I may get, but this is the golden goose of 2015, and that wallpaper is only making it worse :(

I WILL buy this, Konami hijinks or not.

Dude have you seen any of the MGSV trailers? they are full with epic cutscenes. Like when Big Boss smears his comrades ashes all over his face.

I really want this Day 1. Really bad.

But I need to get it used... Konami can't have my money.

But, then again, MG:O Day 1....

Save me.
