New Resident Evil Revelations 2 Gameplay

The issue isn't just that Barry is cosplaying as Joel while protecting a little girl. It's because so many people saw this coming a mile away. Capcom has been shamelessly copying elements from the biggest contemporary games for a while now. And so far it never really worked out to their benefit.

I can see that angle I suppose, but Capcom has been doing the A.I. partner thing in RE, including children, for over a decade. Sherry and Claire. Leon and Ashley (from the game many claimed TLOU was chasing). Perhaps it is chasing that tail, but ironically it ends up being its own tail in a way.

Of all the knocks people can find, that is probably the dirt on the underside of the barrel everyone else is scraping.

You are absolutely right that old RE games already used some of those elements, but the sudden switch from regular coop buddy to a more passive secondary character can't be a coincidence. Especially not with the obvious father daughter imagery, which doesn't even stop at the little girl in the gameplay video. They brought back the only father in series after a 19 year long hiatus and lo and behold, his actual daughter is there too.

In this case, I don't think people are scraping the bottom of the barrel just to badmouth Capcom. They're rightfully calling them out on their incredibly shameless bullshit, which they saw coming a mile away.

So apparently there are different melee moves in this game. No idea what video this is from though cause I would like to see it but yay different melee moves.

Looks like the typical options in Capcom's RE games ever since RE5. FXAA as the only AA option along with console textures

I still say that people are being too negative. As a sequel to Revelations it's pretty much what I was expecting.
It seems to be more in line with Jill's parts, but with a far creepier atmosphere and way better enemy designs and they brought back the 2 characters fans were clamoring for.
It looks decent for a game that isn't full price. Raid Mode is back and seems even better than in the first.
If you had reasonable expectations I'm not sure how the game can be so crushingly disappointing.

I just felt so ehhhh watching that entire Barry video. The clunky controls and everything, I guess it might of just caught up with me and I'm now officially burnt out on Resident Evil. (I actually liked most of them, even RE6).

Previous poster was right, it definitely is a sequel to Revelations. So I really shouldn't of got my hopes up.

Graphics look like total shit and none of the gameplay videos have looked good. It's possible that this might end up being worse then the shittastic RE:R1

After playing Resident Evil HD Remaster..... this game looks half-assed, messy and just plain ugly.

No offense to Revelations fans, but I hope this sells a lot less than HD Remaster so Capcom decides to spend their efforts on a RE2 remake.

Threads like this are why game budgets are so inflated for their graphic engines.

Silent Hill 2 is the greatest horror game of all time, and a lot of that is helped by the muddy PS2 graphics making the game feel real and used. It's a 40 dollar spin off starring two fan favourites who've been out of the limelight for years. I am okay with the game not using top of the range tech that will inevitably become outdated in just a few years.

Except Silent Hill 2 was actually a good game, one of the best. It didn't feel "cheap" even though the graphics were gritty

i wish this one retained the insane controls from RE6. Those controls and mechanics were the one aspect of 6 that kept me coming back to raid mode.

Any change to the co-op? I was incredibly disappointed in the "co-op" of Revelations 1. A friend and I bought it on steam specifically for that only to find out the co-op was some half-assed mission/timer type and not a campaign like RE5/6.

I'm failing to fully understand the complaints about the graphics. It's a cross-gen mid-budget game and it looks like one. In fact I'd say visually it looks totally fine for $25. This generation has already become really annoying when it comes to graphics. I mean some people complain about The Witcher 3 (omg pop in) and The Order (omg flappy hair) so I don't know what I expected. Graphical expectations are totally out of whack and it's killing the mid-tier.

It's a shame the gameplay being shown here looked clunky and the microtransaction nonsense is a massive turnoff. It certainly doesn't capture what made a Resident Evil games great but they lost that a long time ago. It does kind of look like a poor man's TLoU which I wouldn't mind if it was good. The dialog is pretty bad though, I laughed at "The monsters..." "Monsters?!" out of nowhere for no reason.

The episodic thing is weird and I don't really see the point if they're only a week apart. It's not like they're still in development with such short time frames.

Those dancing (?) animations are hilarious.

I think so highly of Silent Hill 2 that I would argue that it has by far the best story in any videogame ever among a myriad of other things, but if we're talking actual gameplay, well...

Splitscreen only however you could theoretically buy this on PS4 and shareplay with a friend thus becoming online co-op.

Silent Hill 2 felt plenty cheap. Janky shit from a gameplay POV. It's only the amazing atmosphere, crazy story and some decent puzzles that save that game, but otherwise it's clearly not the highest budget game.

I think this looks fine for what it is. I also think Capcom is a sinking ship and this game didn't need to made. It's time for a proper sequel, but all Capcom is doing is pushing out budget titles, free to play and remasters. What a joke they have become. Thankfully Sony stepped up and saved Street Fighter from more of the same.

It also had one of the best soundtracks of all time, imo. But if SH2 felt cheap this game is straight up poverty level. Not even in the same caliber

I dont know, Revelations 1 was a handheld game and was super polished, this looks very rough, hopefully it ends up much better with some great atmospheric levels and a better story, a crazy entertaining villain could help a lot.

I like how people are making analogies with the Last of us. I suppose it's the very same people that compare every hard game they play to Dark Souls.

Your partner you escort in this one is pretty much like classic resident evil partner. They don't do much just like your partner did in... Revelations 1. You also escorted Sherry in RE2 and she did nothing. I guess Capcom used their time travelling machine to copy the Last of us.

So, Resident Evil inspires TLoU, which inspires Resident Evil?

No, it's really not the same at all. Besides, only those that started gaming from 2005 on use the Souls games as the only reference. You're also comparing difficulty to gameplay mechanics and overall design. A better comparison would be Lords of Shadow and God of War. Different games, but closer than not.

No idea how long you're supposed to be escorting someone in this game, but you didn't really escort Sherry the entire time (or even close to it), and similarly with Ashley. If you aren't supposed to be escorting this person for very long, it was a pretty bad preview, since a preview generally lets the audience know what they should be expecting from the game.

Whatever. Raid still looks great, it was the best part of rev1. I don't think the main game will be all that bad. It's only $25.

Gina Raid Mode gameplay... same melee move as Claire are you kitten me?

Co-op Raid with Barry and Claire

Watching the raid mode gameplay (unfortunately vid removed now) makes it more obvious that this is based on RE6 tech which is pretty exciting. I found the general basic gunplay to be the weakest point of Revelations 1 and always wanted 6 to have a raid mode, so if Revs 2 can nail the 'shooting feel' but also have raid mode that will be worth the price alone. Too bad it doesn't have the awesome dodge rolls but at least it seems to have kept some of the dodging and melee mechanics, just in a more grounded fashion. For example Claire does a quick side step to get out of danger instead of a full on dive, similar to if you do the dodge in RE6 while using Sherry's stun baton or Jake's melee moves. The hit reactions and head pops look straight from RE6, a much better base to work off than them building on Revelations 1.

Edit: here's another one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TA29EDkifW4
Wow a lot of the raid stages are RE6 maps, this video alone has the opening Edonia area from Jake's campaign, the Chinese Tenement building from Chris's, and Tall Oaks town area and university from Leon's.

A lot of the gun sounds even sound the same.

The RE6 & RE1 maps are a bonus for raid mode.

Im hoping for the Lost in Nightmares mansion as DLC myself.

So I bought the full $40 version for PC (I'm hoping it is the equivalent of the disc release?). Does anyone know if that will be coming out piecemeal as soon as each chapter is available, or if it comes out when the disc version comes out in March?

You should be getting all episodes as they release...so everything by the end of march.

New post over at Capcom Unity with more Raid Mode details and screens.

It also explains how the dreaded "pay for continues" system works:

Blue and Red Life Crystals allow you to respawn immediately with full health. Get 10 minutes into a map, lose and don't want to start over? You can come back to finish the fight, but at the cost of a Blue Life Crystal. These are obtained by completing Daily Missions within Raid Mode, and you begin the game will some as well.

Should you run out of Blue Life Crystals or don't have the time/desire to play the Daily Missions, you can also buy Red Life Crystals in the PlayStation, Xbox or PC stores. These are optional of course, and running out of either/both simply means you can't respawn mid-mission (which was the case in RER1). Some missions don't even allow respawning, so sooner or later you'll have to get through on your own skill if you want to see all the missions.

Game looks fun to me. Not really that interested in the story itself and I don't really like the partner mechanic from what i've seen but I'm looking forward to Raid mode.

What engine is this game using? It looks nowhere near as good as Resident Evil 6. Is it just using the same engine as the Revelations port?

I'm down. Gameplay looks good and the graphics look fine for what it is. Guess I'll get the PC version, as the lack of media for the Vita port is giving me Borderlands 2 vibes.

Honestly, this doesn't look too bad for a $25 game. It might be worth it just for the Raid mode alone. If it were $60 then I'd be complaining.

What a cesspool Gaf is becoming lately. So much negativity... in. Every. Single. Thread.

I get that the Internet is an opinionated, and 90% negative, place... but, man. It's like NYC in Ghostbusters 2 around here lately.

Basically, every game is shit. Developers are all just out to screw us and are lazy. Also, everyone's differing opinion from mine can go to hell!
