New Yakuza Ishin PS4 screenshots

Lovely! Fundoshi's are lovely. We'll probably get this game years from now when they do a anniversary edition or something :(.

Looks great! I'm so looking forward to this game, but I may not get to play it on Saturday like planned thanks to the big snow storm here in Yamanashi last week. Already got word some of my packages are delayed cause of it. Oh well, can't wait to play it when I do finally get it.

Sounds like a pretty solid strategy.

What's different about it?

While they are technically open world, you can't just attack anyone (it'd force the age rating to be higher). So you have to let other people start fights, and when they do, the fights happen in a relatively small area, usually fenced in by bystanders cheering you on.

Is this cross gen? Honestly it looks like the polished up AC4 on PS4 as far as graphics wow factor and model quality. People look decidedly last gen but in high resolution. Not knocking it, just asking if it's also going to be on PS3 because just based on looks, it seems cross-gen looking.

Still disappointing that this isn't coming to the U.S. They don't need to voice dub, just get some subtitles translated in there and give it to us!

First off, yes, it's also coming out on the PS3.

Edit: Sorry, to clarify, only the first Yakuza game was dubbed. The other 4 games that Sega brought over had just subtitles, and yet every Yakuza localization thread there's people telling Sega not to bother with a dub. Well, it kinda points to the real problem; even people asking Sega to bring these games over haven't bought them.

Finally a yakuza game that's hd and not blurry like the PS3 games, I already love the gameplay, so this will be so much easier on the eyes. Nice IQ.

Can't wait to start playing it on saturday. It looks amazing.

Kenzan remains the best in the series, so this has me pumped.

looks awesome, and this early in the gen (plus us not getting it) = mad Kenzan vibes, here's to hoping for another excellent KHH subs guide

Doesn't look next-gen enough.

for real? this isn't a very large team, as i understand it

Something about it just looks really appealing to me.

Then again, I might just be saying that because we'll never get it. :(

*sigh* yeah...yeah

It'd be real dumb to not localize this.

dumber than say, sitting on a cash cow like PSO 2.0?

Its a brawler with RPG elements, some see it as a spiritual successor to Shenmue, you can also compare it to a modern 3D version of River city Ransom.

So yeah not even close to GTA.

Oh, really? That sounds kinda interesting. Thanks.

Hiroyuki Sanada?

Looks pretty amazing. I was playing the PS3 demo a few days ago and it looked really sharp even on last gen. 60FPS + 1080P will be a nice upgrade.

Genuinely curious about this, but how much does a localization cost for a company?

Consider the following:

Translating, editing and proofreading the script, menu/GUI strings, manual, box, (etc).
Hiring a studio and actors/actresses for new voice acting.
Altering animations/cutscenes for lip syncing and pacing issues caused by longer/shorter sentences.
Implementing these changes into the game itself.
Another round of testing the game for any potential bugs caused by the above.
Printing new manuals, boxes, etc.

And that's before the conventional costs of marketing, distribution, (etc) to the new localized territories come into play.

Like with most costs in the industry, they're probably mostly human-driven: salaries, contract fees, utilities, etc. But localization can be a major investment for some companies, and unless they know for sure that the time & money they spend making a perfect English/Japanese/German/etc version is going to be worth it, then they may feel that their money is best spent on other things.

But the animations and voiced dialog isn't something they normally do anyway when they localize these games, right? Just subtitled translations?

Since every game is digital now and no region lock, I just need to make a JPN PSN account and download it right? I may be doing that.

Nope, they don't do dubs in the US anymore. I think they stopped with Y2? So yeah, all they need to do is translate the text if they decide to bring it over. Problem is, there is a lot of text and the last game they translated (Dead Souls) bombed like crazy. There really isn't much incentive for them to bring another game in the series, but it would (will?) be nice.

Do you play with wax samurai in the game?

EDIT:
This game doesn't look so hot for a PS4 game... Looks like a high res PS3 game. Texture work in second to last shot is pretty poor and the DOF looks low precision.

I don't care if those graphics looks ghetto on the PS4. I want this game to be localized so badly. To me, this game is like having a high-budget version of Way of the Samurai. I need to have another samurai game in my collection. =(
