How do you play this game
Oh, this game is about samurai? Didn't Yakuza used to be a JP GTA game? :/

Sounds like a pretty solid strategy. This is just a spinoff like Kenzan and of the Dead. They make them when they're trying to give the main team time to create the next mainline entry in the series.
What's different about it?Not even close, never has been, never will be.

Is this cross gen? Honestly it looks like the polished up AC4 on PS4 as far as graphics wow factor and model quality. People look decidedly last gen but in high resolution. Not knocking it, just asking if it's also going to be on PS3 because just based on looks, it seems cross-gen looking.
Still disappointing that this isn't coming to the U.S. They don't need to voice dub, just get some subtitles translated in there and give it to us!
Doesn't look next-gen enough.
Something about it just looks really appealing to me.
Then again, I might just be saying that because we'll never get it.![]()
It'd be real dumb to not localize this.
Its a brawler with RPG elements, some see it as a spiritual successor to Shenmue, you can also compare it to a modern 3D version of River city Ransom.
So yeah not even close to GTA.
Oh, really? That sounds kinda interesting. Thanks. While they are technically open world, you can't just attack anyone (it'd force the age rating to be higher). So you have to let other people start fights, and when they do, the fights happen in a relatively small area, usually fenced in by bystanders cheering you on.
Genuinely curious about this, but how much does a localization cost for a company?

I see so what is an average rate?Cost is based on word count.
Didn't one of the Sony insiders say this game was coming over?
for real? this isn't a very large team, as i understand it

Consider the following:
Translating, editing and proofreading the script, menu/GUI strings, manual, box, (etc).
Hiring a studio and actors/actresses for new voice acting.
Altering animations/cutscenes for lip syncing and pacing issues caused by longer/shorter sentences.
Implementing these changes into the game itself.
Another round of testing the game for any potential bugs caused by the above.
Printing new manuals, boxes, etc.
And that's before the conventional costs of marketing, distribution, (etc) to the new localized territories come into play.
Like with most costs in the industry, they're probably mostly human-driven: salaries, contract fees, utilities, etc. But localization can be a major investment for some companies, and unless they know for sure that the time & money they spend making a perfect English/Japanese/German/etc version is going to be worth it, then they may feel that their money is best spent on other things.
Verendus said it's getting localized. I'm waiting a year for an announcement and then importing if nothing happens..
But the animations and voiced dialog isn't something they normally do anyway when they localize these games, right? Just subtitled translations?
I see so what is an average rate?

every thread this comes up, every time im curious why famousmortimer's debunking of him isn't more well known
In general or just on this specific localization?
