Next Assassin's Creed Location and Time Period

How about just junking the modern day storyline completely and just setting the entire game in the past. 4 is a pretty huge step in that direction already.

This, exactly. Though the Animus is kind of a key concept. If they keep it in they need to allow more exploration of the future world so those parts aren't so horribly boring.

Haven't read through the entire thread but if France then early-14th century would make for a decent backdrop and could be a nice bridge between the late 12th Century 3rd Crusade world of Altair and the 15th Century Italy of Ezio.

Such a story could chart the rise of the Templars from their inception just prior to Altairs time in the Holy Land to dominance of international trade routes just prior to their apparent demise in 1307 at the hands of King Philip IV and Pope Clement V on Friday 13th October.

A very rich historical story with lots of possibilities

An AC game based on the last days of the Shogunate/Edo period of Japan would bring me back to the series, but they would need to make combat a little more interesting as well.

History buffs: any periods of Russian history with good potential?

Would be incredible if they made an AC game during a Russian time period. There was hundreds of assassination attempts made against the Russian Czars and their families throughout the 19th century. Especially the mid-late 1800s. One Czar from 1850-1880 survived like 7 or 8 assassination attempts before someone finally got to him with some dynamite. The last 2 royal families in Russia had to go through complete hell before the communists finally ended their reign. The late 1800s Russian theme would make a perfect fit for an AC game.

France, circa revolution time would be fun but the period is actually the same as AC3

I would vote for an ancient Greece settings or a medieval China settings, with conflict with the Mongols, travels to the Great Wall, etc.

I want more Middle Ages stuff. 15th century France would be my pick, it really is a fascinating time period. The siege of Orléans would be an awesome setting for an Assassin's Creed game, for instance.

There are a bunch of references to Jeanne d'Arc in Black Flag so here's hoping it happens.

I'd love something set before the first AC.
Ancient Egypt, Ancient China, Ancient Greece (this I think should feature a search for Atlantis, because why not).

Assassin's Creed V: Viking.

Would be cool. Although the implied boat focus would make it a bit too similar to Black Flag to be released as the next title. But a few games down the line I would love a boat centric experience with the Vikings pillaging Europe and so on.

I really want to play as the Russian Assassin from that comic they did. He's even got a render that looks like it's from a game on the AC Initiates page.

If it MUST be set in feudal Japan, I would like to play as a rogue geisha or something.
I just want a goddamn female protagonist

I've only played the first so forgive my ignorance. How can they set the next game in a time before assassins or templars even existed?

The templars and assassin's have been around since the First Civ created humans. Well technically a bit after, but a LONG time.

While I don't think Ubi really cares so much about the modern setting anymore, I would like to believe that since AC4 was a step back in time compared to AC3 they would need a game set AFTER AC3. I'm probably very wrong though.

Feudal Japan, definitely. France is a close second for me.

Also, I would like to see a game (not necessarily AC) that would be based in the political hotbed that was the 1960s in the US. Civil Rights Movement, JFK Assassination, Vietnam War, Cuban Missile Crisis.

I like this. I really love AC4, up there with 2 and Brotherhood as my favorites in the series, but I don't want the success to mean they all become Pirate games. Maybe one more with Edward (I haven't finished the story yet, so I don't know if that would make sense) so they don't have to ditch the whole ship battle thing, and then move on.

And the separate pirate game would hopefully have the time to fix some of the AC problems, like making the combat not terrible.

With the series that prides itself on original settings, feudal Japan would be a HUGE disappointment given that it's been done to death in video games. Only WW2 and modern warfare could possibly be worse than feudal Japan.

XVI century Habsburg empire, in the Holy Roman Empire during the 30 years war. Ubi, Do it.
30 years war was in the XVII century :p, but I would also like to see this setting - huge potential for variety. XVII century Netherlands would also be nice, given that it was the colonial empire in that period.

I'm hoping for Opium Wars era myself. Far East mystique and they can still use the naval combat since it's still in the age of sail.

Ancient Egypt, Ancient China, Ancient Greece (this I think should feature a search for Atlantis, because why not).

Once again, these ancient time period's won't really work in context to the story, why these civilizations existed in the first place and what people would expect.

Creating an Assassin's Creed game focused around pyramids and greek Mythology in the age of something like God of War would put the game right in the time of when the ancient civilization, or human over lords/creators, and humans banned together to try and survive the solar flair that destroyed them in the first place. The Assassin's order was created much... much later than that.

One one hand I'm glad that AC is trying to avoid Japan, because that means when it happens the visuals will be incredible. On the other hand, I would like to play it now. Ninjas just make too much sense I guess.

Just make it so that most of the map consists of city not woods or ocean. I hate all the traveling I have had to do in 3 and 4. Brotherhood had pretty much perfect map.

Like I said, this doesn't make a whole lot of sense from a story perspective. Sure, the pieces of Eden were already around back then so for Abstergo to go back there it might make sense. But then the historical segments would have nothing to do with Assassins or Templars anymore and I can't imagine Ubi would do that.

The ancient civilisation was gone long before the first human civilsations showed up. But I completely agree about the Assassin order not having been around at the time.

I would really like to see China as their first purely next gen experience. Crowd mechanics would be amazing if they did Shanghai or Beijing. People everywhheere.

Not true -
the ancient monuments, pyramids, were created to protect them from the devastation of the solar flair. During that time, during the end of the ancient civilization they started breeding with humans to pass themselves on the best they could (hence the creation of the Assassin's blood line in the first place) - it was only through countless centuries of the stories becoming convoluted by man, where the ancients became illusions of gods, when man with different motives - did the faction of templars and assassin's get created.

As I said, there is NO reason what so ever for the series to go to Ancient Egypt, or any sub-BC time period for that matter.

I'm simply going to take your word for it because it seems like you've done more research on AC's backstory than me. However, I was always under the impression that the first civilsation existed tens of thousands of years ago. The first human civilsations began at about five-thousand BC. And like I said: I wholeheartedly agree that an AC game set before the first would not make a whole lot of sense.

You're right, but the assumption is that the ancients just disappeared, that wasn't the case. Their numbers dwindled down over time and were forced to procreate with their sub-servant human creations. Once they were finally erased mans own greed and motive turned their teachings into leverage for propaganda and own self gain. From there, the Templar vs Assassin's were created and the original story of humanity was lost while creators became myths, gods and deities.
Good talk though, this is definitely the geekiest shit I have spoken about all week. I'll let myself out.

Victorian London is my dream setting. All dark and smoky and Jack the Ripperish.

But ancient Egypt and the French Revolution would be sweet as well. I also think the middle ages could be further explored, seeing as though AC1 didn't totally wear it out in my opinion.

Booyah. Can't believe this opinion isn't more popular. I don't even like the series, but I'd buy this one in a heartbeat. The more Dickensian the better.

An Asian country would be better for me because it it soooo different but this would be nice too. After AC4, I trust the team completely. Throw me into another amazing setting ubi!!!
