Have we already seen XSX IO capabilities in the quick resume tech demo they showcased ?
All games have a consistent 5-6 seconds load time between switches. They flush out 13.5GB RAM between the switches.
If my amateur speculation is correct, it takes 5-6 seconds to fill up 13.5GB RAM. This is 2.25 GB/s to 2.7 GB/s of transfer speeds and does not depend on type of game.
The xbox seems unlikely to be able to effectively use that 2.4gb/s (or 4.8) speed for reasons pointed out earlier in the thread and not having that io hardware sony does.
If they haven't eliminated the bottlenecks and rely on the cpu for io there should be latency that slows its effective speed further.
In the video it actually takes longer for the bigger games if you watch closely.
State of decay to forza : 15s -21s. Aprox 6 seconds.
Forza to ori : 31s- 36s. Aprox 5 seconds (as will have been part way through a second etc) Can move straight away.
Ori to the cave : 46s-51s. Aprox 5 seconds but (53s) a further 2 second until can move. Total until fully loaded = Aprox 7 seconds.
Cave to hellblade : 59s-1.05s -Aprox 6 seconds. Water doesn't move until 1.06s. Total = Aprox 7 seconds.
Hellblade to state of decay : 1.22s -1.28 - Aprox 6 seconds. Doesn't move until 1m 30s. Total = Aprox 8 seconds.
It's one thing that the game loads on screen, but is frozen, it's not loaded fully until you can move for me.
You can see similar on the loading demo and state of decay loads but then is frozen(or is that animation) either way higher qualtiy assets pop in in the background a second or so after.
I'd also imagine this was the best they could show, maybe in other situations it takes slightly more. Look at hellblade for eg. It loads in a dark place and facing a wall.
Do these last gen games use 5-6gb or on the x is it 9-9.5gb of ram?
Let's go with the 9.5gb.
9.5/7seconds = 1.35gb/s. That could be about right to me for useable raw speed as I'd doubt they will get near sonys 100% losses claim without specific hardware. If they can the Sony have effectively wasted their time and money. If there is any further slowdown in the system the they fall further behind the PS5's already twice as fast.
Again we hear from a dev ps5 is 2.5 minimum to 5 times faster.
Last gen games may not take full advantage but I'm not particularly impressed with the loading demo. On it's own its decent, but with the PS5 io peering over its shoulder and the praise we are hearing for the breakthroughs sony has made, it's sounding like it will be well out done.
