"With the ps5, you get a bunch of ps4 games for free. Black ops 3 is one of them and I have the disk for PS4. I tried downloading it on ps5, I thought I did, but every time I try opening it on ps5 it tells me to insert the disk. Am I missing something or am I SOL?"

Need to delete the disc version first then try downloading again.

One question. Have you created a new online account on the ps5? If the answer is yes and you happen to have the game installed in another Playstation online account, sign in to that account on the console and access Settings -> Users And Accounts -> Console Sharing and Online Play and set that to Enabled. Then after you return to the account you're trying to access the game from, you should, in theory, be able to play the game like you normally could.

He probably has to remove it from his library and then download it

Folks egg on Phil Spencer here thinking him to be a blithering idiot, he is anything but. If you ask me, he is an absolute genius.

Over the last few years, he has successfully whipped a narrative around Microsoft being the most pro-consumer company and Xbox offering unmatched value in gaming. While ensuring, their cash cow in form of Xbox Live Gold remains untouched. It's hilarious that all these journalists/influencers who continually invite him for over to talk about future of Xbox, never ask tough questions. As to why, Xbox segregated GamePass and GamePass Ultimate, whereby Gold subscription is required to access MP on games already on the service? Especially when competition doesn't. Or, as to why, even after all these years, and so many pro-consumer moves, they haven't pulled down the online paywall to play free-to-play multiplayer games such as Fortnite, Warzone etc. When....once again competition doesn't.

He has successfully embedded the value of Xbox GamePass with eco-system as a whole, they appear to be so intricately mixed that these issues are brushed aside. Any argument on the forum is killed immediately by "but 100+ games for $10'! or 'it's free on Gamepass" thanks to an army of zealots online. Yet, for the masses whose intake over one year is limited to F2P games, or to yearly iteration of titles such as Call of Duty, FIFA, NFL etc. the cost of gaming on Xbox is rising exponentially. With the hike in price of Xbox Live Gold, and 12 month sub being killed. The cost has doubled from $60 to $120 to access online MP. MS are doing this deliberately so as to move these users onto their subscription service, well for one thing the Ultimate subscription is even costlier and set them $180 for an year. But, they'll "sweeten" this in form of an introductory price, which will be shoved in each and every thread in the near future. Only for these prices to disappear (much like 1$ deals) once the base has swollen. It won't be long, once the gaming space is also flooded with array of sub services from other publishers. But, by the time GamePass would be in position of NetFlix, biggest sub service in the market, and even with 3rd party content slowly dwindling down over time, the cost of sub itself would continually go up.

Writing is on the wall, yet so many choose to bury their head in the sand. It's ironic, because these gamers are able to find the most obscure of details around console hardware or a software from the smallest corners of the internet. Yet, continue to choose to be ignorant on what is shaping up to be a pretty grim and expensive future in console space.

Not to toot my own horn, but never has a post of mine aged so wonderfully well in space of few hours.

This so much. Doubling the price of a service that is literally a LIE since MP servers are paid for by third party publishers anyway, is absolutely despicable behavior. There is a lot of talk of bipartisanship in politics, but I think we all need to set aside our differences/preferences and come together to denounce this insanely anti-consumer move. I was already pissed at the PS+ going up $10 from $50 to $60 a couple of years ago. When Sony sees this they are gonna do the same and everyone is going to lose.

I agree that video games are heading towards a very grim future. This hobby is already full of examples of greedy companies taking advantage of their own consumers launching unfinished games and forcing despicable microtransactions, but this is a really bad precedent since it comes from the very folks that are supposed to govern the kind of greed third parties so often fall susceptible to. If they are actively out there scamming their own users, there is no hope left. Cybperpunk is a great example because CD Project took advantage of the lax certification policies of Sony and MS and basically lied to them saying this stuff would be fixed come launch. Scammers like CD Project will now feel emboldened to take advantage of this userbase MS clearly gives no fucks about.

The problem is that its not even the worst thing about gamepass. Gamepass turning into Netflix will be a bad thing for everyone because the quality of netflix shows has gone down the gutter in recent years. They are supposed to release 71 movies this year and yet 99% of those movies will be utter trash made for tv crap that no one would ever pay to watch in a theater. It's all trash you watch because its on tv. Well, now unlike the over the air channels, you are actually paying $15 a month to watch this trash. I had to watch some Netflix movies this year because of the pandemic and man, I have seen Michael Bay movies with more substance. Watching Tenet after watching all this netflix trash made me realize just how vapid and cheap these movies are. tenet is like citizen fucking kane compared to the stuff i saw on Netflix this year. Gamepass will get there soon as they realize that pumping out quality titles like TLOU2, GoT and FFXV is simply not possible. The quality WILL suffer and the scope of these games will be downgraded. We are already seeing that with Halo infinite being the last Halo game for the next 7-10 years. MS knows they cant justify spending $100 million on a sequel that will take 4-5 years to make. they will launch quick and dirty expansions and call it a day.

If that's the future of gaming, i want no part of it.

No wonder, Sony and Nintendo have their userbase by the balls. They spend time and money to ensure the quality of the games, even if it means insanely priced titles (more so in case of Nintendo, since they never fucking drop) but this just gives Sony and opportunity to hike. MS have basically doubled, even if Sony push through 50%, they can say, but look it's still 50% cheaper than the competition.

I have no doubt something is cooking over at Sony, they reduced the price of PS+ in many regions, PS Now throughout and then they dabbled with PS+ Collection for PS5. I have no doubt, they are gonna squeeze us when the time is right. Sony fans who are championing the cheaper alternative won't like it, when Sony push their own equivalent. Let's hope it isn't as insanely priced as this one.

My ps5 is here !
I am extremely impressed. The system really feels premium, controller is amazeballs and so far Astro playroom is magic.

How much room do I need left above ps5 ? I had to take out top shelf (on which ps4 slim was which I gave to nephews for christmas) to fit ps5.
5? 10cm above ps5 ?

This is how it was:

And here is temp setup before I figure this out:

You probably have the disc version installed.
You will need to delete it, remove the disc from the bay and try to download the digital version from PS Plus Collection.

It needs room to breathe, just let the PS5 sit where it is in your temporary setup.

No plans to play on a TV? PS5 really shines on a good HDR display plus that VRR will be important once they patch the support in!

Pretty sure I had a similar problem with spidey ps4 and remastered - and I only discovered the solution because it worked differently on the better half and kids' profile. The problem is that the UI is poorly designed for intuition with such features as selecting which installed version to play or closing a game, or powering off. You need to access the game swicther icon, selecting the game icon IIRC, then use the option button, then select the version of the game.

If I had to guess, free ps4 updates were intended for everything and this was a last minute UI feature to make more money - much like the DLC interface on spidey has a space for miles morales

/edit
It isn't the game switcher, it is the three dots next to the Play button on the game icon in the console home screen. Click on the three dots then select the other version of the game - it seems confusing IMO because it only shows the other version in the three dots list - so at a glance when skimming info you might not notice a few words different for a long game label to notice it is another version option than the one currently selected as the default in the home screen

Yeah but I need a room for games. I will see what maximum height I can put the shelf above ps5 just for the game boxes to fit.
The monitor is 27" 4k ips (lg 27uk650). It has 40-60hz vrr but terrible hdr. It's a great monitor and I always liked playing on a monitor at my desk.
I am thinking about 42" lg cx oled if they release it this year. 48" is a bit big for a monitor (42 also :p ) or new mini led monitors. Maybe something 32" will pop up.

As someone who preferred gaming on a monitor all his life, I finally made the switch for current-gen. The support for monitor is terrible and once you hook PS5 to a CX, you can never go back.

LG are building an OLED monitor with full HDMI 2.1 support but it's going to cost a bomb. I think 42" C1 is also in the works, but I doubt they'll come cheap either. OLED are still incredibly expensive to manufacture. Also, I suggest you to give BugSnax a try, it's a real jolly game.

He is a hardware engineer who specialises in gaming, he also has a lot of developer friends so I’ll take his word.
i'm currently working on a next gen title i'm not seeing 200gb. so many factors to get to that size, it would have to be a large/long game with a lot of unique assets. A triple layer blu ray holds 100gb. were talking doubling that? anyways just my opinion.

100% agree. Great way to describe it all.

See Phil is the most friendly to the consumers. Sure they're raising the cost of Live to $120/year, but as official Xbox Wire mentions:

  • "If you’d like to upgrade your Gold membership to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate your remaining Gold time will also convert directly to Ultimate (up to 36 months). For example, if you have 11 months of Xbox Live Gold now, and you upgrade to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, those 11 months convert to 11 months of Ultimate at no additional cost."

See? So nice of them. Switch your $60/year subscription into our $180/year subscription and we will be happy to let you pay us triple from now on.

And THE BEST PART is people thought Xbox Live was about to become.. FREE! lol

As for Sony, I expected them to raise the price of PS Plus to $70/year up from $60/year when they raised price of their games and controller, both now $70 from $60. PS Plus and PS Now are both $60/year, so I can see them moving both to $70/year, and offering the 2 services combined for $120/year, which is still $60 less than Game Pass Ultimate is at $180/year. Sony seems more focused on selling games for $70 this generation, while Xbox don't seem interested in that. They just want users to subscribe to Game pass.

Then I'll do the same trick and stockpile 3 years of Plus/Now whilst i still can at this cheaper price. Just like how my GP Ult is secured until 2023.

And If Sony are stupid enough to put their exclusives on PC, I'll pirate/hack them there once those subs run out.

This is getting rediculous, lately. If it's not price increases, it's entities playing Pokemon with mergers and acquisitions, trying to catch them all.

Interesting, although I don't think 200 GB will be standard size, but 3-4 years into the cycle I could see it happening, big open world games like GTA 6 could easily hit that mark.

That being said, game sizes could be a bottleneck, developers may have to compromise on elements of the game to reduce file size. It's already happened with the previous gen.

I apologize for the dumb question here, but I didn't think it warranted its own thread.

How many people can I share my PS account with? and do I leave my console as Primary or not if still wnat to play and download games, as well?

Incredible. You’re the second person on the planet besides me that knows about this;). I was told repeatedly that barely anyone knew about this deal and the 15 mil subs they have for gamepass was a legit number and weren’t conversions. The attach rate for gold is so high that this is grimier than it appears. All to pad those GP numbers. The loophole has been open for so long that it’s pretty much the pricing at this point. 3 years of gold and convert to GP for $1. Then point to all the GP subscribers. All of this ties in neatly with their exclusives and when they’re expecting them to hit as well as how they’ll handle the zeni deal and distribution when those games begin to hit that they have control over. I don’t know how else to look at it besides that.

Im starting to think Phil has some kind of self harming behaviour. Just when the news broke that Series X outperforms PS5 they drop the news about XBL.

-Guys, its going waaay too well this week, put some shit on that sandwich and serve it. Get a move on!

I believe it is just one with PS5. May have also just been one with PS4 but going back to PS3 iirc you could set up to 6 devices as primary.

I was actually just looking at this to share games with my brother. OnPS5, they changed the system settings to something called Console Sharing and Offline Play, it's no longer done by setting your console to primary.

How you set it up:

  • Person 1 logs in to their account on their PS5, go to settings > users and accounts > other > console sharing and offline play > You want to DISABLE this
  • Person 1 logs out of their account
  • Person 2 logs into Person 1's account on Person 2's PS5
  • Person 2 goes to settings > users and accounts > other > console sharing and offline play > You want to ENABLE this setting
  • Person 2 then goes down and selects Restore Licenses
  • Person 2 can then download games from Person 1's library
  • Person 2 can then log out of Person 1's account and back onto their own and enjoy Person 1's games
  • Repeat this whole process to get Person 2's library on Person 1's PS5

wow so microsoft raised XBL gold sub for double the price??

this is such a greedy move and as anti consumer as it gets

so they forcing gamepass ultimate or no online gaming for u??

it is 15 dollars now a month... imagine tomorrow

so basically as a consumer I must subscribe on gamepass ultimate ... or if I choose to buy my games and play online I must pay 160 a year plus games prices???

yikes .... no choice for cunsumer anymore

imagine tomorrow when they raise subs prices to 20 dollars as their quality titles hit the service as they do not sell games anymore !!!

they are basically killing digital sales on their system

the devs will not like that .... same are consumers

Congrats on the PS5 but I concur a good OLED TV with HDR would be a huge plus. Demon's Souls looks incredible on a LG 4K OLED / HDR when configured properly.

For me, the only 2 interesting questions are:

Q: What is it like developing on Xbox Series X|S?

A: We’ve found that developing on Series X|S has been a further improvement compared to the previous generation. We embraced the GDK early on and it allowed us to simplify parts of our codebase significantly.

Q: Which enhancement were you most excited about to explore leveraging for Hitman 3 on Xbox Series X|S?

A: We see Hitman as a ‘live game’ and our launch date on January 20 is just the beginning of a journey, in which we’re going to keep working on the game and adding new features. It’s great that the GPU in the Series X|S has hardware support for Ray-Tracing. We’ve already started working on RT technology for the renderer in our Glacier engine, and once that’s deemed ready for prime time, we’ll definitely bring it to the Series X|S hardware.

If you max it out, 3 Playstations can use the games you got on your PSN account in parallel, if you mix PS5 and PS4

1. primary PS4
2. primary PS5 (called different, like "sharing your games" or so)
3. secondary playstation (no matter if PS4 or PS5)

you can several secondary Playstations, but only one of them is allowed at a given time. If one secondary Playstation starts the game, it kicks out any other secondary Playstation playing a game at that moment.

Fun Fact: I have one game (Valhalla) on Bluray on my primary PS5. The game also appears on the secondary PS, even though it is a digital edition. If the game icon gets clicked on the secondary PS5, you get kicked out on the primary, for unknown reason (the license is on the disc and the disc is in the tray)

Congrats.. I'd pay attention to how close the console is to your wall versus space above (which looks to be fine). Unlike the XSX - I find that the PS5 exhausts most of it's heat out of the lower/middle of the back of the console... not sure if others have the same experience..

More visualization.. I need to get some drill bits tomorrow. 16cm behind ps5 to the wall so it's fine
