John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.

I just bought the recent release of Tales on Wii...visually, not very impressive, and I'm comparing it to say, Metroid, RE4, SMG...just being realistic here...I mean I just started playing it and I had to save and quit because I simply could not believe what I was putting my eyeballs through...that and the new hero is too whiny, wimpy, bitchy, ect....

...this next Tales needs to look better, or I just can`t get behind it.

The game ends up being pretty awesome if you ask me.
It's very visually uneven, you are right - some of the dungeons are so bland - but then you'll run into a random area that has a really great art aesthetic. It's strange. But the game is fun and the characters, particularly the relationship between Marta and Emil, turns into something really fun after awhile. Give it 10 hours and see if you feel the same way.

Another good Wii game, another thread full of haters.

Where? You can't expect all the comments to be positive now.

As I've said on TOH's thread, it looks pretty generic right now. Tales games really need to pick a new setting or something *( But it looks beautiful and might be using an upgraded TOS engine (the style looks so much like it). I hope we'll get more news soon!

100% agree.

I like the characters alot more in Symphonia 2, then in Vesperia.

I'm getting interested in this thanks to the videos. We will get it in EU, right?

You mean you bought the spinoff made by a different team? Why would you even thing a spinoff and a main series game are even comparable? OF COURSE this will look better

Proper shadows... that makes it automatically better already than TotA and DotNW in the graphics department... :p

I hope the game is good, and being a 3D not portable Tales, I say it has a good chance of coming here :D ...

Who and what? That's news to ME! :lol

http://arstechnica.com/journals/thu...weep-as-level5-studio-ghibli-team-up-for-game

Acclaimed development studio Level5, which was responsible for games like Dark Cloud, Jeanne D'Arc, and Professor Layton, and world-renowned animation house Studio Ghibli, known best for the likes of Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, are teaming up to produce a new game called Ninokuni which will land in Japan next year.

Studio Ghibli will be handling all of the in-game animation for the game, which revolves around the magical exploits of a young boy. The game will ship with a fully illustrated book called The Magic Master which, judging by the scans from the latest Famitsu, will have a variety of shapes which represent spells to be cast in the game. The player will "need to refer to [the book] from time to time."

Currently, the game is scheduled to release first on the Nintendo DS and then later on an "undecided" console. The two versions will be similar, both employing the aforementioned book, but Level5 has said that it wants to separate the console version from the handheld version in order to make both experiences worthwhile for a single player. Either way, though, it's going to be impossible to resist the brainchild of two leaders in their respective industries.

I would guess it`s Alfa System, they could be working on it for a year know after they finished ToI for DS.
They were working on Phantasy Star Portable and still are on Radiant Mythology 2, I'm not sure if they can handle one more project. I think this game is supposed to be released within this financial year still?

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Oh didn`t knew that they are also working on PSO - this financial year ? i don`t think so, i expect it holiday season 09 in japan...

Yay it's cel shaded! Looks great! Way way better than TOS2!

Probably a Team Destiny game since Aifa System have just finished TOI, Team Symphonia recently finished TOV and the other Tales team with TOS2 and it has been 2 years since TOD Remake! (Yes I know they've only made 2D Tales games but Namco aren't likely to want to make another 2D console RPG these days!)

Motion + with 1-1 sword fighting, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!

Looks really nice.

Are battles random or can you see the monsters on the map? I didn't see any monsters but I've never played a Tales game.

i plan to play through the Game Cube version of Syphonia over Christmas break.

I don't like that the graphics engine/art style seems like an improved version of the ToS:KoR engine. I really disliked that engine in the game and don't want to see it again.

But Team Destiny just finished up Hearts, right? This is kind of confusing...

That wasn't really Team Destiny, not everyone anyway. Just a few people, along with Team Symphonia staff iirc.

Some Team Destiny people are still missing since ToDr:DC right? Maybe they're on this?

no that was more like Team Destiny R. This looks like it could be actually Team Destiny themselves

I've only recently gotten into the Tales series by playing Symphonia and Vesperia, but what I've played already makes me hyped for this next installment. :D

I think the graphics look excellent, second only to Vesperia in terms of Tales graphics. The combat looks to be as fun as ever and...that's all I can really say about this trailer, really, since it doesn't exactly reveal a whole lot. I'm assuming the protagonist is alone in those battle sequences because Namco doesn't want to reveal too much of the cast yet.

Looks very good! I feared it was going to be as good as ToS2 graphically, but the trailer clearly shows it's a step ahead. Hopefully it receives more polish overtime, just as ToS2 did from its unveiling to launch.

Time Traveler
Watched the trailer, so they got the main character running, apparently a decent combat style (similar to Symphonia? I am not an expert in the different tales combat styles...).

Some places look nice, still it's impossible to judge the game with that video.

I'd be interested in knowing exactly what team is making this, I doubt it's Team Symphonia, since they're probably all fired after the purchase of 30,000 copies of Vesperia in the US.

This game really looks to shake things up; an even more fighting orientated entry, plus a more behind the back camera angle. Really dig it!

:lol

Well that will teach them not to put a Tales game on the Xbox ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same team as Symphonia, I mean I don't think they're making anything else right now and they already know the hardware pretty good (which is why this game looks good).

Can someone convert the file to .wmv please?

I've tried a couple of programs, but one crashes and the other claims it's not compatible with mu OS even though it said it was in it's OS list...

And my Media Player Classic won't play it, it just crashes...

You have little idea how fucked my computer is at the moment. :/

looking at the trailer, this is definitely Alfa System, either that or internally developed by Namco like ToS:KoR.

skinny male character = Inomata artwork (once again).
Inomata designed all Tales by Team Destiny. So what's your point?

I still need to pick up Tales of Symphonia "2" but I'll probably wait for a price drop but so far this game looks good just wonder if we will get it here.

Nibelung Valesti already posted a link to an AVI file. That should work fine, right?

looks great, i finished ToS2 two nights ago and thought it was a nice game but had some very weird game designs (i.e. cant level some characters, unable to use some characters as the main one etc).

But i agree that the characters really make ToS2, Tenebrae in particular is one of my fave Tales of characters (he and Jade should join forces)

you think this is by Team Destiny?

she hasn't just done TD games only. she's done all the non-Tales Studio games as well, such as Innocence and Tempest (only exception is Legendia) (note i'm not taking "escort titles" into consideration) (i know Tempest is now considered an "escort title", but it was originally a main entry, hence Caius and Rubia in TOWRM2)

there's a simple pattern for mothership Tales really

Team Destiny - Inomata
Not developed by any Namco Tales studio - Inomata
Team Symphonia - Fujishima
Team Frankenstein (Hearts and arguably Vesperia) - Inomata if majority is Destiny, Fujishima if majority is Symphonia

Vesperia sold about 100,000-110,000 in US.

Granted that I've only played Vesperiamazing for my 150 hours on an SDTV, but the environments for this game honestly don't look like much of a step down to me. Enemy models and battlefields, on the other hand, well... Can't have everything, but this still looks like it could be quite a bit more appealing to me [edit: as a full game, not just graphically] than basically any Wii disc I own.

Not to sound like I care much about graphics, though, but it's not like this trailer gives me much to talk about regarding gameplay. And with Tales trailers I never even know whether the piece of music for them will be anywhere in the game outside (possibly) the intro, so can't say anything there either. :p

I do want to see the female lead already, though. D: I've liked the design for the male lead and his disco stylings since the first shot was revealed, which hasn't ever happened for me in a Tales game, so I'm hoping the girl will look like a Mint or Farah who I like at first glance instead of an Estelle or (the absolute worst-case scenario of) that awful Tempest girl with a hot air balloon for a dress. Then I could have the true first of liking both lead character designs in a Tales game.

It's probably a safe bet that it will. I believe every Tales since Symphonia had enemies appear on the map. The trailer looks like it was just meant to show off the world and the combat.
