I would say it's more foolish thinking on your end.

So basically I should factor the goalie like there are no skaters on the ice? I should call a 1-0 pitching duel, 94-95 basketball game, or a 3-6 football game a blowout now? No. All of those are examples of a team scraping by for a victory. I shouldn't have to even describe this.
Right. But you were talking about Luongo's performance and how it should affect his modesty. Stop being so damned confused, brother.

Token award still if it happens, but I find it funny that everyone was flaming me when I suggested he would still win the award even during a Bruins finals loss.

I added that to the post you quoted. It still shouldn't matter.

Yo we got 4 too!

let's all just take pleasure in knowing our teams will forever be better than the nucks, because after this final vancouver sports will still be best be known for big country and little else

No one flamed you, wounded princess. That was before Luongo got shelled 8-1 and 4-0. I guess you're some kind of clairvoyant.

You're wrong, but at least I understand where you're wrong.

It’s Tim Thomas’ Conn Smythe Trophy, win or lose (as I said last night, I'm not 100% sold on this, but just like with the Vezina it seems like everyone in the media already is)

Anyway, I'm watching the real battle between the US and Canada right now (Sox vs. Jays) and we are just pummeling everything in our path. Even Varitek with a three-run jack. :lol

Plus Rangers took care of business in 94

.

to be fair it's hard to imagine though since it doesn't often happen, now that the games are played it's pretty clear Thomas has been above everyone and has only gotten better down the stretch.

Socreges, you are clearly the strongest and smartest person from Vancouver. Worthy of replacing a Sedin on that front line. Obviously I'm just a poor product from Colorado Stanley Cup goo.

How old were you in 1992?

Win or Lose, he has produced possibly the most impressive complete year that a goaltender ever has. Doing this all the while Sports Hub fucktards would pretend to understand hockey and tell me how much better Rask is.

A year younger than he was in 1993!

If he makes 37 more saves (possible in Game 6, guaranteed if there's a Game 7), he will set the all-time record for most saves in a playoff run. Kirk McLean holds that record, oddly enough, and he might've won the Conn Smythe that year if Leetch wasn't just fucking INSANE.

old enough I'd say
Awesome. I hope I get to experience the same - maybe appreciate it a bit more given my age, the years of suffering playoff losses, and the ability to celebrate downtown with everyone.

Alas! If the Canucks do win (and they haven't yet), while they may be the most recent Champions, I won't have those multiple Cups won when I wasn't even alive. So what's the point!

I was alive for 2

Me too. But I don't really count 1986 since I was 3 at the time :lolz

1993 was one of the defining moments of my childhood though.

You can't really appreciate success in sports as a kid. It's fun, sure, but I think it just means so much more as an adult that's a true die-hard. And these days, we as fans have the ability to get so much closer and more familiar with the players and the team — we can watch hours/days of coverage on the NHL/MLB/NFL/NBA network, we can read near-countless articles on the internet (instead of just in local newspapers), fuck, we can even follow our favorite players on Twitter. We have the ability to get so absorbed in this stuff that it's almost disturbing to me at times. I fucking love it, though.

Perhaps, but you don't have a say in when your team wins championships. If anything, the past 18 years have made me appreciate 1993 even more and just how hard it is to win the damn thing in today's game.

I had a canadiens lunchbox and a pimp starter jacket, if that doesn't show diehard appreciation I don't know what does

In a way, part of me is looking forward to the SCF being over. I've been constantly distracted at work and at home by reading about hockey and reading this thread. It's an illness. Half of my evenings are completely absorbed with hockey and drinking. That works OK on weekends, but when I'm going to pubs on week nights and then working the next day... it's rough. Win/lose, it's been incredible. But it's consumed so much of my life over the last while - it'll be nice to get that time back.

I completely agree. My hobbies and other personal time have really taken a back seat; I always watch as much playoff hockey as I can, but it's never been this engaging. Also I'm pretty damn sure it has taken a toll on my health, as extreme as that may sound. I've never been through anything like this as a fan, with the MLB and NFL playoffs lasting only half as long even when your team goes all the way. This is really the first time that I've ever wanted hockey to be over with; I just need a fucking break!

Still looking forward to the awards show and the draft and free agency, though! The summer is always great.

Yeah, my policy of going to the same pub for every playoffs game has made me quite a bit poorer and taken quite a bit of my time. Also not healthy at all :(

Lucky for me I have another team who I have been neglecting who play on Yawkey Way. Bruins haven't gotten this far in years so it feels weird to be out of baseball mode so late. Supporting four teams is awesome. Year-round madness, alcohol consumption. and just good times in general.

I was 8 in 1986 so don't remember that cup very well. 1993 was fantastic though.

No Heritage Classic next season. Probably a good idea. Do it every few seasons at the most, not every year — no need to drive the thrill of these outdoor games into the ground so soon.

Most of the fan videos that I've seen have been pretty lame, but I loved this one. Lots of little touches. I think even some haters might like it, despite themselves.
That was amazing. Really well done. Love the "c'mere" wag of the finger at the end, I can see that getting a lot of use as a gif

Yeah, I was just about to comment on this. Great idea and it will go a long way in ensuring the unique feel of those games. It seemed like the NHL was just piling on for the sake of over the past few years, I'm glad they're scaling it back.

They should just do a cosmic bowling hockey game every year. We can finally get that hard to reach hallucinogenic drug fanbase which we have been trying so hard to obtain the last decade.

Yeah, this.

And Dastardly, you can't tell me that last night didn't swing you a bit further away from the Ducks towards the Canucks. Has the Anaheim team ever provided you with such a memory/experience?

Nope. It reaffirmed the love I have for this seasons Canucks roster and enforced my love for the city itself, but that's it. Surely I'll never experience such a thing with the Ducks since I'll never be living in Anaheim at a time when they're 1 win away from the cup, but even if I was, the whole city wouldn't care or unify as much if they were. They've given me great games, great players to witness and a cup and multiple playoffs appearances, and watching it all through the TV or computer by myself is satisfying enough.

Eh, Higgins is a complete non-factor. I bet a lot of people don't even remember he was a Hab. In fact, I think this is the longest I've ever spent thinking of him. Lapierre, yeah, but only because he's a douche and has proven that he'll never grow up.

Anyway, everyone ready for the latest edition of Classlessness-gate?
“I said also that he might make some saves that I don’t, so I’m just saying on that particular play I would’ve played it different and that’s the difference between me and him,” said Luongo, trying to speak over hundreds of fans chanting ‘Luongo, Luongo!’ at Vancouver International Airport. “I’ve been pumping his tires ever since the series started. I haven’t heard any one nice thing he’s had to say about me, so that’s the way it is.”
This guy is really sensitive, huh? A gold medal and one win away from a Stanley Cup, and he still needs coddling, apparently. Opponents should try to stray from criticizing each other, of course, but I see no reason why they would need to throwing out compliments to one another in the middle of a series. Just seems like a weird thing to say.

Who gives a shit? You should send off that quote to NBC so they can try to drum up some more falsified outcry in an attempt to garner sympathy for your team. Oh no, he bit him through a glove, how is he not suspended from the sport of hockey for the next DECADE?!

Serious question for Boston-Age.

Was there any massive street crowds just like Vancouver?
Yes. After game seven there was.

I agree with you, however you are acting like in Canada those "bulletin board" quote's are simply ignored when in fact they are magnified by a large margin.

Don't worry, I'm sure NBC is already in possession of the quote. For the record, I really don't care — I'm not offended by what he said or anything like that, although the Boston sports people I follow on Twitter sure do seem to be. I just thought it was a weird thing to say. The whole "classlessness" thing is just a joke at this point.
