NHL 11 Trailer

- cross crease pass success is way down
- passing accuracy is down
- goalies still go down quite early
- goalies still fall for the "go parallel along the red line" garbage or from the corner across the crease.
- you can actually knock people over this time compared to last year which needed the perfect line for the hit or your stats.

Should fix the UT. Be able to sort cards by position, league, etc; have a general sense of uniformality: sometimes positions on the face card are in diff places which makes the lack of sorting more annoying since you can't look at your deck by the bottom left card corner to find positions and type. I'll post pictures as examples.

Hopefully the complete game fixes the auto lineups as well. Players on the default PP are out of position and a few other annoyances; I guess this is their way of having people really micro their teams (which isn't a bad thing considering the nature of the game mode).

edit - reached the finals in UT against Canada, I have a clear one timer with Zetterberg in the slot and...his stick explodes. Crosby picks up the loose puck and you can guess what happens after :lol

- AI doesn't go in obvious directions when they're handling the puck, they're harder to line up for good hits because they change speeds, almost feels like playing Fifa, you can't always challenge handlers.

Honestly, how in the WORLD could this have not been the first thing they fixed from last year?

Perhaps I suck, but I couldnt get the goal line glitch to work at all. (I'm not a glitcher, I was just checking to see if I could get it work.) The goalies drop a little early, but they dont get into desperation mode nearly as much

One question, is the one time pass still the only method of scoring, can you finally score with a wrister when you are a feet away? or do you get robbed by the goalie's magical lightining fast glove?

I could score on wristers last year, but not that often. Cross crease one timers don't seem to work this year very well, so I'd assume wristers and such will be more effective.

Played around with the demo quite a bit now and there are things that are still broken with the game.

*Top shelf is still way too easy to pick
*Checking physics are overdone. Guys fall down on light checks, but I'm hoping this is just part of the demo and will be toned down in the final release.
*Goalies are slightly improved but still extremely retarded
*Teammates still don't get in proper position for me to pass to them.

Other than that the game feels pretty good. Ultimate Team will be fun for about 10 minutes until I get sick of the micromanagement.

The same goals that went it last year still work, just not as often. Still plenty of garbage goals off rebounds.

They did fix the awful rebound physics from last year; before you could just tap up and the shot would wildly bounce off the goalie (especially if you're coming down from the boards) into the waiting arms of one of your mates.

edit - and yeah, top shelf still works when you're fairly up close; far side shots by the faceoff circle still work, as do those godawful toe drag shots.

One other thing I don't like is that they still haven't gotten rid of the stupid wrist shot animation. The shot doesn't really work anymore(just testing everything :lol) but it looks fucking stupid when a player brings the stick halfway around his body to shoot.

Generally I like the feel of the game but the A.I still sucks balls so just like in NHL10 I'll probably be playing 95% online, where I can atleast be mad at the game together with friends.

Btw, thank you EA for giving us authentic puck size without puck shadow. Fuck you EA for making us wait so long for it, and for probably making volleyball-sized puck with maximum puck shadow the standard in online game modes.

Pretty underwhelmed. A lot of it seems the same and some stuff is worse. I think this thread got up my hopes that it would be a lot bigger improvement than it was. :(

A few other things I like/dislike:

Like:
The "A glitch" seems to be gone.
I do like the faceoff engine and will probably like it even more with practice.
Stick lifts aren't nearly as effective and seem to result in a lot more penalties.
Seems like a lot of the cheese goals(wraparounds, cross crease, toe drag wristers, deke wristers) aren't nearly as effective as they were in NHL 10

Dislike:
Handling the puck with a goalie is still absolute shit.
Dump & chase still doesn't work as well as it should.
Unscreened slapshots from the point seem to go in way too often.
The fact that it's faster to go to the XBOX dashboard and go back into the demo than it is to wait through the Cup presentation every time.

Why is the fuck is the cup presentation not skipable? I seriously thought it was a joke that I couldn't and it would be short but it just kept going....

When you press the button to switch defenders it doesn't always go to the right defender anymore. I pressed it and instead of the guy standing like a foot from the puck it went to the guy along the boards on the left.

Edit: Do these games not have delay of games penalties? The goalie came out to play the puck hit and totally went over the boards on the goalie's defensive end without anyone coming close to touching it.

It sucks. I just quit the game with about 2 seconds left now. It's such a waste of time.

I REALLY like the feel of the gameplay. They've done a much better job of making you feel the difference between a slower defenseman and a faster wing.

I still think the checking is overdone, though--I shouldn't be able to absolutely crush the opposing wing on the boards every time he comes into the zone.

I also like the broken sticks--had it happen to a defenseman and he had to go to the bench to get another one while the rest of the team slipped into a PK mode. It was really cool.

After playing around a bit more:

The deke back and forth then wrist shot is still there and still works all the time
Slapshots from ~5ft away work way too often.
Pucks still go through my players(although not nearly as much)

Sure glad they wasted all their time on Ultimate Team though.....

And they took out the manual slash :(

ultimate team is lame...huh...huh...i like the game play but i can score way too easy, i hope this is a demo to where the game itself is a bit more defined

I really like ultimate team, but of course I was in love with GM mode in NHL 10, so I really like micro management and stuff like that.
I liked the GM mode mode too but I could play 80+ games and not have to do a whole lot. Seems like with HUT you're going to have to mess with it after almost every game.

Some general observations after playing two games last night:

  • Players have a lot more weight to them (good thing).
  • The new hit physics are ok.
  • "...because of, anticipation." STILL.
  • Goalies look to be about the same.
Does anyone know what the game options are going to look like? Have they separated the overall game difficulty and goaltender difficulty?

still love HUT. cant wait to try it in full.

Yup, just had an epic ending also, final game against team Canada, pulled the goalie with 30 seconds remaining and just started putting shots on net. With about 5 seconds to go, I took a slapshot from the point and the puck hit Brodeur and bounced into the air, my whole team crashed the net and the puck managed to bounce off of a stick and go in with 2.2 seconds remaining to tie the game at 1. Then 30 seconds into OT, Malkin took the puck down the left wing boards, and beat one defense men, he came in and pulled a small deke but got hit by the other D but was still able to maintain control. He got pushed to the side of the net below the goal line, but Brodeur had already went down to try and stop what he thought was gonna be a shot before the hit, so I took Malkin back out the way he came and put a backhand shot right between Brodeur's arm and side as he was getting back up for the win. :D :D :D

Do I get to keep my demo HUT team in the retail game? I already good awesome goalies and shit! Seems a biiit to good for just on pack of cards though...

No. There are only 75 players available in the demo so you're bound to get some awesome ones. If you notice, it gives you a slightly different roster every time you start HUT in the demo.

Cool! Actually feels good starting from scratch knowing that the "good" players are alot rarer. I'm gonna spend waaaay to much time in HUT. Played FIFAs Ultimate Team alot although it sucked. This looks so much better.

Last I checked, you can increase/decrease the size of puck shadow even in previous NHL games so...
Puck size no, puck shadow yes but you couldn't remove it completely. Which was BS of course.
Always thought that oversized puck looked ridiculous.
