NHL February |OT| FIRE ALL THE THINGS

Where is he going though? With that contract, his attitude and his play, he's virtually un-tradable. Unless it's an amnesty buy out in the new CBA, because he's got an NMC which means you can't bury him in the minors.

Pretty much. He's already toxic, if Philly waits even longer to try and pawn him off, good luck finding a buyer because you'll definitely need it.

It's the perfect storm of shit. At this point he could call all people in Philly inbred jackasses and they still wouldn't be able to run him anywhere but on the Flyer's bench.

I got to work today in a decent mood despite having to work after an extended long weekend (5 days, so nice) and then saw the headline of the newspaper walking into the building. I had totally forgotten that bullshit last night lol, and despite the fact the Jets didn't really deserve one point (55 shots? come the fuck on) much less two the thought of tying goal still kills me.

If the forward in the neutral zone responsible for standing up the blue line hadn't bumped into the Flyers guy and fallen (I want to say it was Ladd, but I can't remember) they wouldn't have gotten into the zone with speed and the game would have been won, if Byfuglien had the defensive accumen of a decent midget player Simmonds wouldn't have been able to take the puck right in like that and they'd have won... ugh.

Yeah it's a bad, bad situation. I think if any team was willing to take him, holmgren should jump, even if we get fleeced. Bryz and a first for fresh green gatoradewater bottles for the bench

Cheer up dude, you don't have bryz. Thats one thing to be happy about. That and pavelec is going to be a stud, if not already one.

It feels like we lost that game last night. Sure we got 2 pts but our season is a fucking wash. We're in a worse position now than last year with our goalie dilemma. At least last yr we had a low paid shitty goaltender that made some solid saves. Now we have a goalie who's crazy, possibly locker room cancerous, gets paid a shit ton, and can't make a routine save.

Problem is, again, with his NMC he can't be traded anywhere without his consent, and even then, with that attitude he has, could you see him waiving it? And who wants that cancer in their locker room, at that price and with the position he plays?

Amnesty buy out is your only chance. But then of course you probably only get one of those, so you won't be able to Amnesty buy out Pronger.

Bertuzzi signs an extension with the Wings. Apparently around 2 mil per year.

Also want to throw out this odd dream I had last night:

A guy from Winnipeg kept trying to intentionally hit me on the street, he chased me down to a cliff where I had no choice but to jump. I luckily grabbed on to a ledge but he was not as fortunate as he drove his car right off the edge and fell to his death.

Dany Heatley is from Winnipeg?

but at least he's on the LTIR, which removes his cap hit, right?

and yeah, I'm not very hopeful any team wants him, I'm just dreaming I suppose.

Not necessarily:
Just because a player is on LTIR does not automatically grant the team extra cap space. In the event a player is placed on LTIR, his cap hit still counts toward the team's overall cap payroll. Relief only comes if replacing the player's salary pushes the team's cap payroll to date over the cap. The amount of relief is limited to the amount the team has gone over the cap (less the amount of payroll room the team had at the time the LTIR transaction took place), not the entire amount of the injured player's salary.

Bryz and Ballard can both be on the "Players Nobody Wants To Trade For Team."

Lol true, but man your team is just so stacked on offense, every game I've seen the Flyers forwards look like the '87 Oilers. Granted some of that is the Jets horrible team D but any team with the offensive depth I've seen has a shot to win any game, unreliable goalie or no.

I'm used to seeing the Jets get run around in their own end by a good team, but the Flyers just DOMINATE on O when they get going. They utterly controlled the third period last night on the road and OT was a complete joke, the Jets were lucky to clear the zone more than twice until the inevitable winning goal. Bryz just has to be mediocre-to-poor for this team to be scary, and I think the nutjob has at least that much in him.

I highly doubt he's trying to make a come back. There's just too much at risk for him.

damn.

It was a pretty stupid move by the Flyers to sign a 35 year old to a 7-year deal in the first place. Now they're stuck with that cap hit for the next 5 years.

As long as he is attempting a comeback, but after the latest report, is that even possible?

He can attempt to make a comeback in the same way Laperriere has done for the past two seasons, which basically involves being retired without actually saying he's retired.

They won't be. Not unless the NHL tightens up the rules that let them park Rathje, Betts and Laperriere on LTIR.

I dont see how that can feel like a loss last night. The offemse was great, I think the D will definitely improve thanks to the new additions. They showed a ton of heart and didnt give up even though Bryz gave up a couple of soft goals and the Jets goalie played great. I think this years team is in a much better place then last years team. Giroux is much better, Jagr has been a great signing, the young guys have all been really good, and the goalies fell apart last year as bad as they are falling apart this year. This years goalies just fell apart a lot sooner then last year.

look at the big picture though, man. what are we going to do? are we a cup contender this year? will we be for the next 5 yrs with bryz on our cap?

sure, our O looks great. Our young kids look good. Our D has a patched fix for this year, but the goalies? what in the actual fuck is going on? he's out of position, lazy, and just out of his mind. I don't see him making any sort of come back this year. You guys can call me out all you want on it later if he does, and i'll gladly eat my words. I want to believe. This negative slide I think might just be too great for him to come back from out of nowhere.

Believe me, I hope I'm wrong with all my heart. I just don't see it.

The goalies did not fall apart this bad last year... Not at all. The save%'s were better and the team was FIFTH in league in goals allowed. I really think you let Leighton's attempted comeback in Buffalo taint your perception of last year.

Bryz has been shit statistically all year. If he is THAT bad it will be IMPOSSIBLE for this team to win a cup. When you factor in Pronger, Timmo, and Briere's age you'll see that Homer absolutely wasted what was our "window" for a cup run. Now we're out at least three years if not closer to five. Bryz is a disaster and he cost this team it's best chance at a cup in decades.

Pronger's condition is way worse. He's also a more public figure. You don't think other teams aren't going to be keeping tabs on the situation? Looking for circumvention? Hey, lots of luck.

I'm looking forward to Bettman picking a fight with Snider about Pronger's cap hit. Bettman isn't going to do shit to one of the most influential owners in the league when Pronger is practically a vegetable.

EDIT: On top of that the NHLPA will almost certainly back up the Flyers in the interest of getting players the most money possible.

You dont remember Bob getting pulled twice in the 1st round last year? The team allowed a lot less goals last year because the defense was much better and bob played well until like the last month. all 3 goalies were bad in the playoffs though. Bob has regressed this year and Bryz has been terrible all year plus the d has been much worse most of the year. It is funny to hear people saying that Homer wasted their shot at the cup when everyone was saying they needed a goalie after at years debacle against the Bruins. It sucks that Bryz has flamed out like he has but it is all mental, he has played great in the past and he has the tools to be good. I still hope he can get it together somehow but it is looking a lot less likely. In the end I am still glad they at least tried to fix the goalie problem, to many years they just ignored it.

Not I. I believe in Bob. He's just as good as Niemi. What you're seeing this year is commonly referred to as the "sophomore slump." In Bob's case he's also had to deal with "my coach would rather play the shitty headcase over me"-itis as well.

Who said anything about him not Getting his money? He'll get it, the Flyers just won't get the cap relief.

Also, I really don't think Bettman is scared of Snyder. Not when he'd have all the other owners of the leauge backing him. What is Snyder gonna do, take his team and go home? Maybe he can start his own league.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I doubt Pronger will be denied LTIR status for the next few years. Also, I'm not saying Pronger won't get paid. I'm saying the union will prefer he get paid on LTIR and ANOTHER player get paid a salary for playing.

Also, I think everyone should have this for nights their team plays the Leafs:

Columbus Blue Jackets eternal rebuild on again!! Vermette traded to Phoenix.

EDIT: http://www.edmontonjournal.com/spor...d+Oilers+Ryan+Ellis+Hemsky/6181704/story.html

Take a look at this mailbag. One question is "Would the Oilers move Ben Eager for Luke Schenn." Ignoring the complete insanity of the question, he has to wonder if the OILERS, not the LEAFS, would move Eager for Schenn. If that's the case, then they would have done so like yesterday.

Where the hell do these people come from?

They've been competent the last few years after Gretzky left. I'm surprised they're doing as well as they are after Bryz left who seemed to have carried them. It's a shame no one there cares when they could actually be pretty decent.
I thought they'd fall off too, but Dave Tippett's a hell of a coach. How they managed to turn Mike Smith into a competent goalie is beyond me.

I think that is the most surprising thing. Especially after all the chances the lightning gave him and the just absolutely pathetic style of play he showed, I can't imagine how he's played how he has. I still think they had someone undergo surgery to look like him or something.

Edit: :lol He only had one year with the lightning where he was over .900 sv%

I just dont see how you can still believe in Bob. He gives up worse goals then Bryz does. I get that he is younger and cheaper, but Bryz at his best is much better then what Bob has shown so far. I wish the flyers could get rid of both guys but there is no way to move Bryz. They need to get a new goalie in though, it sucks that every time they pull Bryz they have to go right back to him since Bob does even worse. I really wish they had traded Bob last offseason when he had value. They need a solid backup for Bryz so that when they pull him or he gets hurt they are not toally fucked.

I can see why you would like the NHL to change the way it deals with players on LTIR who in all likelihood won't ever play again, but I don't understand what makes you so sure that they will anytime soon. Pronger's contract is bigger and longer than Rathje's was, but the situation is the same.

Bob has shown flashes of great, I'm not sure why you're so against him. He's young, DEFINITELY has the talent, extremely fast pipe to pipe. Like I said, he's young, he needs to develop. the original plan was to have bryz show him the way as a mentor this year. Now Bob has nothing to look up to, besides our shitty goaltending coach.

You guys making a circus out of your goalies doesn't help either. If you don't swap every two seconds I think it will help. You screwing with young goalies isn't helping you're case.

Nothing needs to be changed. If he's not able to make a legitimate attempt at a comeback, he can't be put on LTIR. I dont think Pronger remembers his name right now. The worse thing that could have happened to the Flyers was Lauren pronger opening up her mouth and letting everyone in the world know how terrible he's doing. People are gonna be keeping tabs on the situation.

agreed 10 thousand %

Bob got yanked in last years playoff after 1 game of losing I think 2-0? or something like that? This is has been a huge problem, and it's embarrassing as a flyers fan to see a different goalie in and out with 0 confidence left in the tank because the coach doesn't believe in any of them. This has been lavy's biggest downfall as a coach, for sure.

Hence the, "Support Bob and let him be the starter" plan. Unfortunately you get people like yankee who fail to see Bob's EXCELLENT fundamentals and instead cling to a guy who has ALWAYS had questionable form, but put up good numbers. Bryz has never been a goalie that was easy to watch. He's no Hasek/Cechmanek loose cannon, but he's always been far from a model of high percentage play.
