NHL Lockout With Your Cock Out |OT|

@DownGoesBrown: "Bettman says owners pressured him on make whole but he refused. Remember that, people who keep insisting he's just a messenger in all this."

The guy really is a fucking cancer.

That quote is wrong. Owners pressured him to TAKE AWAY MAKE WHOLE. He INSISTED IT STAYED. So yeah, let's keep that in mind, because he's actually doing some negotiating.

Would have been better for everyone to make a deal last February, or August, or October, but we are where we are.

Wow. That was long.

Thanks for that, I missed it, great work. The above really is the most important part of this. That's also why you're wrong, Jabee. Players REFUSED to sit and work on a new CBA last February, when the best time would've been. No, they WANTED to wait until the very last second, so that they owners would be forced to lock them out, so they could win that PR battle, because Lockout makes them look better than a strike. Owners HAD to lock them out, because otherwise players would've gone on strike before the playoffs, which would've ruined the league even more.

The league is built on great players. What separates the NHL from other hockey leagues is its high level of competition. Nothing is given.

Hockey is a niche sport where most of the teams are losing money. B and C tier NFL/NBA players are more popular than star hockey players in the US. With all that in mind, the current position of the NHLPA is ridiculous, especially with the offers the owners made this past week.

I still can't believe they let another lockout happen especially after what happened last time. As soon as Fehr came into the picture, it was painfully obvious though.

I hope none of these players ever come back. I root for the Flyers jersey, fuck every single one of these players that were involved with bringing Fehr into this.

You hockey players are so dumb. You are so dumb, for real.

well, yeah. Players felt insecure about their own dumbness "omg we made progress without Fehr, we must be dumb and must've made a mistake", bring in Fehr, Fehr goes all "haha you players are all idiots, let me handle this", and all the progress and goodwill is destroyed. Fehr doesn't work in the interest of the players, he works in the interest of himself. "Get the best possible deal, no matter what or when", regardless of the sport.

It's time for replacement players.

Yup.

I think that's the biggest problem here. The NHLPA is acting as if hockey is a legit major league sport. It's not. It is a fringe major league sport, and I'd say it'll be eclipsed by even the MLS in a few years. It's just not that popular of a sport. It doesn't have much appeal in the US, even less so worldwide.

Players need a big ego check, and realize they're absolutely lucky to be making millions playing in a North American league that's really only popular in Canada. CFL and MLS players have it far worse, and you don't hear them complaining about having to support their families only making millions of dollars a year.

I have said this before, but for me the logo on the front of the jersey>>>>>>>>name on the back of it.

Edit: Also I love the CFL so I'm more than capable of watching a league with a lower talent level.

No. Fehr is. I refuse to believe the players are smart enough to understand what's happening (exemplified by the Crosby tweet from last page). Fehr tells them "holding out will get you a better deal!" and they believe it. Meanwhile, Fehr plays his "I've been called to get the best deal, no matter when or how, I'll get that deal, get paid, and then get my ass out of the sport." Fehr cares about his deal, not about the sport. Without Fehr, players make progress because they actually care about the sport. As soon as Fehr comes back in, all breaks down.

I'm going to agree with this. 100%. It lends itself perfectly to what happened this week.

Players need to realize that they're valuable when they're on the ice playing hockey. If all they're going to do is sit around and complain about not making enough millions a year, then fuck off. You're absolutely worthless to us.

NHLPA is going to bring decertification / disclaimer of interest to forefront according to ESPN

NHLPA is so dumb. Decertification/DOI only helps the rich

That's all. It fucks everyone else.

Larry Tanenbaum, Chairman of the Board, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment

"I was pleased to be asked to join the Player/Owner negotiation sessions. I had hoped that my perspective both as a businessman and as one of the owners of the Toronto Maple Leafs would be helpful to the process. Like all other teams, this work stoppage has hurt our fans, our employees and our business. Neither the owners nor the players will ever recover the losses incurred with this work stoppage.

I understand how important it is to have a strong league and 30 healthy teams. I must admit that I was shocked at how things have played out over the last 48 hours. The sessions on Tuesday felt cooperative with an air of goodwill. I was optimistic and conveyed my optimism to the Board of Governors at our Wednesday meeting. However, when we reconvened with the players on Wednesday afternoon, it was like someone had thrown a switch. The atmosphere had completely changed. Nevertheless, the owners tried to push forward and made a number of concessions and proposals, which were not well-received. I question whether the union is interested in making an agreement.

I am very disappointed and disillusioned. Had I not experienced this process myself, I might not have believed it. Like all hockey fans, I am hopeful this situation can be resolved as soon as possible. I miss our game."

I think this was posted before, but the "someone had thrown a switch" just makes the same point I made before.

Huge ex hockey fan here, stopped watching it during the '95 lockout. Havent turned back since, thank god for euro football.

Shit like this only flies because the fans allow it to.

Not really...It's not like the NHL is some super successful league. It's already only a fringe league.

Holy fuck - he's done

I bet they'll decertify because Fehr will tell them they can get more lol

That or they need to fight the league even harder.

This is his plan all along. Force his own union into a corner so they'll have no choice but to fight back and Fehr will get his big chance to take on another sports league and try and become some sort of legend like Marvin Miller.

I can't wait to watch them come back with their tails between their legs, begging for their jobs.
"Mr. Bettman pls. We're struggling over here. Yesterday Scott Hartnell had to buy his daughter a Mercedes for her sweet sixteen! A Mercedes! We can't live in this poverty for much longer!"

Biggest mistake they made.

That deep-inside-players quote came from depth player. They want to play, but top players still in Fehr camp. Could explode soon

LOL Neuvirth was right all along, this is all about the top players wanting to get massive A-rod contracts. Fehr doesn't give a shit about the guys making minimum NHL wage trying to stay in the league.

Bingo. I was right. The NHLPA doesn't represent all the players, it only represents the star players. Why do you think contract length was such a huge and contentious issue? That shit don't affect bottom six players. The only ones who care are big star players who lose out on millions if they don't get their 10 year deals.

Greedy pieces of shit. That's why guys like Toews and Crosby are always in the forefront, talking about backing the NHLPA. They don't give one shit about their teammates who make a fraction of what they make, but do every to make their jobs easier.

Can you blame them? The salary cap is artificially depressing their salaries to below a living wage.
