Ninja Gaiden 2 GDC images and trailer

I dont see why people still are comparing screenshots and all that. NG2 looks amazing, the only reason why it doesnt seem like the biggest jump in graphics ever is because Team Ninja always sticks to their own type of artstyle. DoA4 had this problem also. If they moved away and did more realistic or different style, it would be a much more noticable difference. I am not the biggest fan of this kind of artstyle, I didnt like it in DoA4 and in general never liked it that much, but that doesnt stop me from noticing how amazing some parts of the game look.

I'm not saying it doesn't look better. Only a blind person would say that. What I am saying though is that graphical leap between the two isn't as huge as it could/should have been. Ninja Gaiden 1 is a gorgeous looking game , probably the best looking console game of the last generation (technical, not art direction ).
In comparison NG2 only looks like a slight improvement on the graphics department and concidering what Team Ninja managed to do on the original Xbox it's a bit dissapointing. Not that it really matters because the game will kick some serious ass but it's just very apparent.

I think the problem people are having is the fact that Team Ninja are still using their original engine (correct me if I'm wrong), which for its time was a generation ahead. I think Team Ninja felt they could still squeeze more out of this engine instead of building a new one and I think that was a wise decision. Personally the GDC demo really wow'd me in comparison of what we had seen so far for NG2.

What stood out first was that the environments look much improved. Ninja Gaidan Sigma has these environments that looked completely out of place with the character; really static, all angles, and too clean. In this the environments looked more natural, the character looks apart of them and vice versa.

The delimbing/decapitation stuff is also pretty intense. Don't think I've seen melee fighting game to do that.

I never finished Ninja Gaiden Sigma, I thought the uninteresting story and disjointed environments too painful to forgive despite having decent fight mechanics.

NG2 has moved from a 'no way' to a 'maybe' due to this gameplay video.

NG2 uses a brand new engine if I remember correctly. Sigma was the one that used a modified version of the Xbox engine.

I dont know whats up with some on this thread. When I saw that first footage of Ryu standing over the level and you see all those flying things in the air I was blown away. The game looks incredible, so what if its not as big a leap as the first, thats cause NG1 was one of the best looking games of all time.

What matters is that the game will be awesome, we all know it will be. And yes I am a bigger DMC fan but guess what everyone... you can buy and enjoy both. What a crazy concept right.

Yup your right sys, thanks for the correction, I found it on xbox.coms site!

Man I hope this demo gets here by the end of the week, I'll play it daily until June :D

From the new GI:
Itagaki: Although I can't say the same about Heavenly Sword, GoW and DMC are fantastic games, and the respective feature sets don't force them into direct exclusionary competition with Ninja Gaiden. In that sense, I'm not too concerned with these titles. In fact, I'm actually looking forward to getting a chance to play DMC4 and GoWIII.

There you go-- GoW and DMC vindicated, Heavenly Sword tossed in the trash where it should be.

Anyways, off topic..

Was there a thread about the guy who made it( I don't remember the name) face on GAF?

If not there should b ebcause it looks like

Making fun of the guy's skin problems is original, funny, and above all, mature. Right up there with "lol Gerstmann's fat!1"

calm down what? shit is old. haha, we get it, itagaki has skin problems. just pointing out how lame the post was. people get banned for saying "gerstmann's fat" so why is this different.

and what's with the last comment? He's talking about DMC4 and GoW3. That interview is new. Not sure what hatchet you're trying to bury--but some of us would like to see the DMC fan trolling stopped.

Finally got around to watching the video and I must admit I am not that impressed. Its not the gameplay and graphics, it just feels the same old, a mix of Sigma and black with more decapitations. Well maybe my opinion will change when the demo comes out.

edit: ok watched it again, I like the combos, pretty fast and I'll say I am impressed with that. I didn't like the art style.

Who would have thought.

How so? It was the original ninja gaiden that made me buy an xbox and before that when the demo was announced for OXM, I even subscribed to the magazine.

I do like how Ryu wipes the blood off his weapon in NGII.

Even a Gaiden fanboy like me owns a couple of Devil May Cries.
Just sayin'.

I think Resident Evil 4 has more shaders and graphical finesse than NG2.

because you touch yourself at night

Sometimes during the day too but that's besides the point. The 2 games look the same and NG2 should look noticeably better if it was built using a new engine.

Yeah I don't think sigma and NG2 looks that different but I thought sigma looked fantastic so I don't really care if NG2 looks the same

it's on a new engine. the difference will be apparent in the final game. All we have to go on are bullshots and shittily encoded vids.

and if not, then whatever, it's still going to kick ass.

What sets them both apart is the enviroments. You can tell in NG:S the enviroments are from an older game, whereas the NG2 enviroments are huge. Everything else is pretty much the same though.

For all those who say the xbox was the most powerful last gen, someone told me in that "N64 was a graphical Beast" thread that "the GC could do PS3 graphics cause the guy at factor 5 said so"...

TBH this is an amazing looking game, I don't yet own DMC4, I will cause I gots to bring the devil bringer to fools, but that game is a day 52 game, whereas NG2 Day freeeeeakin -1. If I find a store that has it in stock, ill break in and leaver the cash, with a note saying "please give to Itagaki urgently"
