Ninja Gaiden 2 GDC images and trailer

I've seen it. It's basically the same as other Team Ninja games (DOA4 and Sigma look very similar).

When you compare that to something like DMC4 with high quality HDR, tone mapping, fully dynamic shadows, etc. it really looks dated.

Well I'm just saying in comparison to the pictures, which seem to not do it much justice. I'm pretty happy with the way it looks anyway.

just watched the video holy shit etc

is that...is that...a spiked mace-spear? :lol

God this game is going to fucking own.

I'd rather have something look dated but solid versus, say, the forest level with retarded shadows, tearing, and slowdown.

Did he just do a triple Flying Swallow at 0:54 in? Oh lord.
it's from NG: dragon sword.

Flying Swallow is one of the most effective move in NG, consecutive FL surely will make it easier.

here is hoping i am wrong.

Of course not. What's to kid about?

DMC4 is displaying the whole gamut of next generation effects while NG2 is sticking with methods we saw last generation (at a higher level of detail, though not necessarily higher than DMC4). The lighting and shadow in DMC4 far outshine NG2 and that's make all the difference.

If you remove all of the lighting and shadow from Crysis, for instance, the game suddenly becomes a whole lot less impressive looking AND runs far smoother. High quality HDR lighting and dynamic shadows are extremely demanding. Capcom managed to achieve such things at 60 fps with DMC4 while Team Ninja is doing nothing of the sort with NG2.

That's not to say it looks bad or anything, but it certainly has that same outdated look that we got with Sigma and DOA4.

That's an exception, though. The forest looks pretty good anyways (and I've encountered no tearing at all in the game with only very minor slowdown in the forest). The rendering demands for that segment were pretty insane (as all of the trees cast dynamic shadows on all objects while the HDR lighting is off the charts).

I like how they seem to be focusing more on action and less half-assed exploring and adventure elements, judging by the few released videos. I really didn't enjoy the first game because of the terribly level design and backtracking, so I hope they stick with this linear and action-packed approach.

Looks great though.

It's true but after watching the video I don't care at all. It's so fast, so brutal. Jesus. :o

Graphical effects aside, DMC4 reeks of sterility compared to this game. Those next gen effects aren't exactly applied amazingly.

I'm sick of the "it has X effect, so it's good/that game doesn't have X effect, it looks bad" mentality. DMC4 has nice next-gen graphics effects, but at the cost of the frame rate at times. I don't care how much HDR they shoved in there, if it affects the action, it's irresponsible.

From a technical standpoint, maybe it's novel. From an aesthetic standpoint, I'm blind from jaggy shadows. Maybe the PS3 version handles it better? I'm on the 360 version...

Well, from what i have seen of NG2, it is faster and smoother than DMC4.

not saying it looks better, just faster.

Graphics schmaphics, I just want to kick some ass with a ninja. This game looks like it's going to get the job done. Fuck the haters.

Who's to say NG2 will be perfect? DMC4 is a rock solid 60 fps with no tearing 98% of the time. Slowdown is extremely rare (though I've only played up through chapter 9, but that is after the forest). There was one area in the forest where I noticed it dip a tad, but it wasn't really bad.

It's not about "X effect" either. I felt that the advanced lighting in DMC4 gave the scenery some truly remarkable depth. The environments in NG2 are completely flat and devoid of lighting.

Which version of DMC4 have you played? I've yet to encounter ANY tearing. Very minor slowdown, yes, but absolutely no tearing. V-sync is enabled at all times.

Ah, you're on the 360 version. That explains the tearing and severe slowdown. I just played through the forest stage last night on PS3 and thought it looked awesome (though the shadows are jaggy, but that's generally not the case in other areas). There was only one area where I encountered slowdown and it was very minor. No tearing. Outside of that one area in the jungle, the game has been a solid 60 fps. Even the cutscenes run at 60 fps a good portion of the time (though they do drop in framerate at times).

Wait, incoming as in there's one on the way eventually(we already knew that), or incoming as in there's one on the way today (great news if true)?

I guess that's it (PS3 vs. 360 version.) yeah, the only time I run into jagginess, tearing, and dropped frames is in the forest level.

They're called technophiles. They make up the overwhelming majority of 'hardcore' gamers. And yes, they need to die a miserable death.

It didn't specify, but on the Marketplace, there's a whole section for GDC (Ads for it all over the place). There's a section for game announcements, and when you highlight the Ninja Gaiden 2 announcement, it says (paraphrasing) "Don't miss the electrifying demo for Ninja Gaiden 2-coming soon." So, I'd imagine it's within a couple of days, considering the context of the announcement (on the GDC page, listed as coming soon).

Very nice.

I notice that blood still remains on the weapons after he finished killing the enemies and he shakes it off to clean it.

I also notice that his health regenerate to a certain degree and I'm not liking it. It will make the game way to easy.

Just watched the trailer. Yes Devil May Cry 4 looks better both from an artdirection and technical standpoint. However the scale of the level shown off in the video is a damn lot bigger than most of the DMC4 areas.

Did I already say the action in this game looks awsome because my god I'm drooling here.

Just saw that.

MEGATON AGAIN.

Just saw the footage, looks totally badass.

I liked the bit where Ryu shakes off the blood from his staff thingy. And then later when he tore shit up with the nunchucks, 39 hit combo :D

Take the DMC4 talk to the DMC4 fucking thread. Thx.

Game looks fucking hot. I don't even want to imagine this shit on the higher difficulties. I have nightmares of conveyor belts, harpees, and whirring pillars of death.

I havent seen this in gaf, but you guys now, that NG2 now allows for saved films right?

I'm really looking forward to this, of course, but I must admit that I would love to see Team Ninja update their tech somewhat. Devil May Cry 4 looks a whole lot more impressive than Gaiden 2.

Still, it looks good enough for what it is and we all know the game will rock.

what the?

This craps all over dmc4 graphically. Especially ingame. Just look at the environment and animation

OH MY FUCK. This is amazing.

I hope it's an "enhanced" demo like NG:Sigma, with leaderboards.

I did not. this is just so fucking awesome. Great week to be a TN fan.

I'm sorry, but even as a Sony fan, I've got to admit NG2 looks way better than DMC4, and it's also faster. Plus there's dismemberment. Also, the scale seems to be bigger in NG2 judging from this level shown.

You can spout off all the technical jargon you wish, but from what I've played and seen of DMC4 compared to that video of NG2, in my opinion NG2 looks much better.
