Nintendo at E3: are you in denial?

We're at least expecting a trailer for Zelda right? I don't really want it to only be Treehouse live without even a trailer. That would make me sad.

Eiji Aonuma smiles awkwardly, "So, uhhhh... Zelda Wii U isn't coming till 2017. Ha-ha... but ummm... here's a trailer to cheer you up!!!"

maybe E3 is just dwindling, i mean it hasn't been big forever, remember spaceworld? let's hope companies go back to hosting their own shindigs, we don't need every journo under one roof in any circumstances, unless we wanted to blow them all up.

maybe nintendo just don't need journos playing their games for 15 minutes then writing reviews based off that, maybe they would rather bring the games straight to the people and let them be the judges.

My expectations are insanely low with Nintendo this year. They were low before their crazy announcement of having one single game at E3 plus delaying everything till next year so...

Pretty sure Zelda UNX will be great and will be one of the most talked games of the show but the amount of pressure they should have right now to impress the masses with one single game should be gigantic. One should think they added something to the game that would be as revolutionary as the invention of the wheel but pretty sure it will be more of the same old Zelda gameplay but now in a full open world wich is a Nintendo's first and since they always work on their own and ignore fans, they must think everyone will be amazed by an open world game when in fact people is already getting tired of that genre. Wishing them the best.

You should pretty much just consider yourself lucky for receiving an official warning of exactly how let down you'll be.

The Zelda thing better be one hell of a showcase, though.....

I just don't care at all about their showing. I mean, great, Zelda, but we'll have to wait almost a year to play it on another console, so...

To be honest I don't even expect much from Zelda besides being a decent looking Zelda game. The industry in terms of open world games have advanced a long way over the last 2 generations. I don't know if that team can knock it out of the park in that area considering the issues that have plagued Zelda for years would be a nightmare in a huge open world game.

I really hope they blow me away and show me they still have it in terms of being industry leaders in terms of gameplay with that game.

I can't care less, in fact I hope more companies start to ignore E3, I rather have my announcements spread to the whole year and not "everything" packed in 2-3 days. I know people love it for the hype and all but I'm tired of it.

I'm somewhere inbetween depression and acceptance at this point.

I mean, it's ridiculous. By all rights, this should have been the comeback year. New console, new titles, new unprecedented partnerships, but it's all coming down to Zelda, a now cross-gen title where we will be seeing the inferior version as opposed to NX?

At the same time...realistically, what else could they show? If they so chose to completely ignore NX here and showcase it elsewhere (who knows, maybe for The Game Awards 2016?), we have Zelda, Paper Mario (that's already being written off as Sticker Star 2: The Worsening) and #FE (which I'm mildly curious about, but also has a lot of people on GAF soured on the prospect for some reason). 3DS I'm also sure is on it's last legs, but truthfully I only ever saw it as a Pokemon machine and Luigi's Mansion 2/Monster Hunter as perks. What else could we possibly focus our attention on? E3 2015 was sparse enough; I honestly thought the mini-Direct ahead of E3 was because they had such a huge offering of Wii U titles coming that they couldn't fit anything in for the 3DS. I doubt I was the only one who had that assumption. Could you imagine another E3 with half of that content, and twice the amount of people dancing to Mario music as filler?

Anything not Zelda would simply ruin their experience because we've apparently already made up our mind on Sticker Star 2. Best case scenario is to taper our expectations as fans, so they can solely be based on how great Zelda is.

I'm really not bothered at all by what little they have to showcase. It's not like E3 is my primary source for big news on gaming to begin with, more like a gigantic hype-fest of things to come. Nintendo has their own way of doing things I suppose, and if they decide to drop out, it won't affect me in the slightest.

My best case scenario is that we get a timeframe for the NX reveal event and even that feels too hopeful.

Spaceworld will rise.

when they announce and release a localized mother 3 this will be their best e3 of the decade

i'm so out of touch with nintendo fans!

Everyone knows that Nintendo is focusing on core games and will blow away the competition with both more powerful hardware and third party support. This is clear from them giving the world premiere of Zelda on inferior hardware

All will be detailed at E3 by Reggie and his special guest Captain Falcon, here to promote the long anticipated next entry in the F-Zero series

They have a lot of floor space to only show one game, but it is Zelda. E3 lines for previous Zelda games have always been huge. Now they can fit all those people in their area. I think they can get away with only showing 1 game at the show. I think there's gotta be some kind of Nintendo Direct around that time, though. Maybe not during E3, but maybe a week before or after. We're about due for a Direct anyway.

They made it clear. I've accepted it and I know I'm just gonna have to wait a few months to get actual news beyond Zelda.

No, the past 6 months have made me given up on the company completely.

Nintendo said we're only getting Zelda... So I'm only expecting Zelda. Expecting any surprises will only lead to letdowns. Let's just enjoy getting a hell of a lot of new stuff from a highly anticipated game a lot of us have been looking forward to the past few years.

The NX stuff will come in time...

I'm not in denial, I fully believe that Nintendo will show nothing but Zelda, but I do still find it absolutely insane. I'm just hoping that they'll schedule a Nintendo Direct shortly before or after E3, because they do still have games that are actually going to come out this year.

I don't give a shit about them making stupid decisions anymore, I'll just wait for the NX release anyway.

People do damage control because Zelda "will be there" or are excited to see a game trailer. I don't care either; I like playing game, not seeing 5 min gameplay or teaser. Maybe that's why I don't get e-sport, youtubers and Twitch.
Just tell me "hey, a new *** game is coming", that's all I want to know. Yes, I like powerpoint presentations.

Basically this. I'm not in denial, but I'm not quite understanding the strategy there. I'm actually quite sad because Nintendo at E3 was always something I really looked forward to see.

Well, it's up to Sony and Microsoft to deliver the big bombs this year, it seems.

Nah. It's Nintendo; incomprehensible business decisions is what they do. Besides, they're coming off of an E3 they got lambasted for only bringing games that were obviously stopgap games between the Wii U and the NX (Has it really been that long since the NX leaked? Like, did it leak the day after the project started?). And from the sounds of it, the NX might not even make March, so they probably have even less to show than last year, even if the NX was ready to be revealed.

I mean, I'm not going to lie that this killed my hype for the entire event (Barring maybe a Crash Bandicoot revival), and I'm incredibly underwhelmed by/disappointed in Nintendo for having literally nothing for 2 years in a row. But I'm not in denial, nor am I surprised.

I accept it. I don't like it and think it's insane but I'm not holding hope for a secret showing. I believe they will legitimately only show the new Zelda and that is it, no announcements, no time focussing on anything else. At best, best, they might throw up some trailers on youtube for some games coming this year on 3DS. And maybe we'll get a trailer for Zelda.

I also fully expect the critical reception to the single Nintendo game to be poor. I don't think people will think that this single Zelda title needed all that space and attention and people will think at best it's fine and kinda cool for a Zelda to be doing these things but won't get outlets talking about how revolutionary it is and how it's a game of E3 choice or whatever.
