[Nintendo Direct EU] Theatrhythm Final Fantasy demo now available

I loved what I just played. Not the total surprise Ouendan was at the time, and not half as crazy, but the FF playlist is just as good - in another genre obviously, and gameplay seems more varied.

Probably my next 3DS game. Do we know if it will be available on the eshop?

No word about it yet, but I really think it will be available on the eShop at some point.

I'm curious, I've never played a Final Fantasy game in my life (except Crystal Chronicles for GameCube) and I have no interest to, and as such I have no attachment to the music. But I love rhythm games, especially if it's anything like Elite Beat Agents. Do you think I could still enjoy this game even if I have no attachment to the music?

No sidegames made it in (I would really, really like some Crystal Chronicles music!) even in the DLC, right? How's the progression supposed to be in the main game, anyway? I've been trying to play through all the mainline FFs before this makes it out, but I don't think I'll make it to/through 13 in time for release, but I could probably avoid the content from there until I finish it if the game'll let me.

I haven't played it yet, but I hated a lot of the EBA tracks but still loved the game, so I'd assume so. Nostalgia will play a big part in this for a lot of gamers (myself included), but I think the tracks are good on their own as well. You might YouTube a few songs from the tracklist or watch a video or two and see what you think I guess.

I totally didn't notice the EU bit in the thread title. As soon as I got home from work I was getting irritated because I couldnt find the demo anywhere.... Sure enough, it's not there :( oh well.

I was totally unimpressed back when the game was first announced.

Today I played the demo.

I will buy this game. And I will enjoy it. And I will buy most/all of its DLC.

I am such a sucker for rhythm games.

EDIT: Looking at the song list for the game, I am a little dissapointed that the Event song for FF6 isn't the Aria di Mezzo Carraterre. I would have bought the game for these 8 minutes of awesomeness alone.

Yes, I felt the same way.

Then I played it and it was magic :0

Man, I really wish I had been hardcore into games when ouendan first appeared. I only learnt about it after it had become notorious for being... well... weird as shit.

Goddamnit Nintendo give me another goddamn Ouendan

The people who decide the DLC should explore other side games apart from FNC, and give us some music from them. But we're more likely to get a song from FFXIII-3 than X-2. I want Tactics songs for example.

Its prob my most played pick up game for my 3DS. I picked up an additional 22 songs in terms of DLC.

You'll definitely get more out of this with the nostalgia if you're an FF fan or if you've played any of the titles. The event songs really drive it home with their FMV sequences.

This needs to hit the US store for our friends across the Pacific/Atlantic.

Two things wrong with Nintendo:

- Region lock in 2012.
- Continuing the mindset that the internet needs to be locked by regions.

So much fun.
And I think this is the first example of a game having a great benefit from a demo here in the West, since on Amazon.uk it went from 175 to 21 in the span of one day O_O

This game is suprisingly awesome, really.

I never thought that I could have such fun with a simple rhythm game. I love the presentation and the music itself is crazy good. And almost shed a tear when I saw Vivi and Zidane. :)

When you purchase DLC tracks, do they add to each games 'main' menu or do they get added to a separate selection screen?
Also, what's with the points / levelling up the characters do? Is there some overall purpose besides just getting a high score on each track? :)

Just wanted to chime in on all the love. I wasn't really sure what to make of it, but the demo completely won me over. Haven't finished a Final Fantasy game besides 6, 9 and 12, but I love it none the less. It's a perfect portable game full of charm.

DLC? Yeah, I suppose they would do that.

But even with 70 songs, it's a lot of game there already...
They put as many songs in as they could fit on the game card. And 70 songs included out of the box is more songs than about 99,9% of other rhythm games

I didn't mean the 70 songs in a negative way, 70 is a lot for any rhythm game. It's just not a lot compared to the complete soundtrack of all Final Fantasies, there's bound to be some fan favorites that didn't make it into the game. Therefore, DLC. Makes sense, no?

By the way, what's all this about characters and leveling up? There's some kind of RPG mode in the game, too?

Has anyone beat The Man with the Machine Gun on Ultimate yet? I can S rank Sunleth Waterscape, but I have no chance
with the other.

There's 2 separate categories in the challenge mode. One's for songs from I-IX, and the other for X-XIII

Leveling up characters lets you learn series character signature skills that will help you clear songs with more ease, but also can net you more points in the end via tactical bonus. You collect rhythm points that are basically an overall achievement kinda thing, where every 5000 you'll unlock something new.

And you if you think 70 songs is something. . . SE plans over 50+ more in DLC. :D Japan is @ 44 songs additional songs worth of DLC.

Yes at first you start off with 1 character from each game, but there's definitely more characters to unlock as you progress.

The Japanese version has DLC. It was the first 3DS game with paid DLC.

The demo was enough to get me to place a pre-order for this.

My big concern was that the game looked like fan service to me, and as someone who has only played 3 and a bit games in the series, I wondered if it would really appeal to me. That said, I wasn't familiar with either song in the demo, and yet I'm hooked already, which pretty much gets rid of that concern for me.

I'm pretty bad at the game though. The second difficulty level kicked my ass.

The only FF game that I've played in my life was FFTA2, and still I fucking love this demo.

Theaterythm+NSMB2+Silver 3DS XL for me. This will be a good purchase.

Has anyone beat The Man with the Machine Gun on Ultimate yet? I can S rank Sunleth Waterscape, but I have no watch with the other.
First try: F. Second try: D. Third try: B.

109832094th try: still B. Don't know why but I simply can't seem to grasp the part that comes a bit after the Summon (when you're about 85-90% through the song).

I'm not the best at rhythm games but I enjoyed it. Found the stand worked pretty well with it. Will put it on my watch list.

I really loved the demo but I'm afraid it will happen the same as all non-peripheral rhythm games that I play: I'm usually acing them in the most difficult setting in just a couple of days. Sometimes being very good at a genre can be a little bad.

Stealth bra......

Hey wait, that wasn't even stealthy!
:P

It'll get a lot of non-FF fans too imo. Its just good fun!
(mind you if you haven't played any FF games, you might be confused as to what the fuck is going on :D)

This is definitely how to do a demo. Currently second on 3DS overall. A good result for the game. (speaking of which, I know Pushmo does very well already - but surprised there isn't a demo on there for it).

Think I might wait for the downloadable version (everything will be put up on e-shop right?) as its a game I'd probably just play now and then - easy to launch.

Muahahahaha. It's true anyway. Guitaroo Main in Hard is the only game that has managed to overwhelm my skills. Stuff like Donkey Konga was so easy it wasn't even funny. And in this demo it just took me 3 attempts to start beating the Ultimate scores with zero effort.

Tell me your secrets, I can't finish that damned song!

I don't know, I just see the stream of notes and my wrist works by itself. A little trick is actively trying to slide the notes as explained in the tutorial, not just "flick" them like in Rhythm Heaven. Having studied music for some years and therefore having the structure of rhythm itself hardwired in the brain also helps a lot.

I wonder how they picked the songs for the demo. I can see why Sunleth Waterscape would be there if only because it's from the newest game and younger games are more likely to have played that one, even though XIII is not quite the most beloved game in the series. And while The Man with the Machine Gun is definitely a great classic you would think they would just chose something from VII if they wanted a song from the PSone era. I feel like a song from the 8 or 16 bit era is missing, too, and maybe something from X to complete the pandering.

The first demo in Japan had the FFVI boss battle theme, so there was a 16 bit era song. I don't know why they chose those songs for the demo, but it seems they've decided that they would bring only one demo, and the one with more songs sounds more appropiate to be chosen.
