Nintendo Downloads - August 2009 (VC / WiiWare / DSiWare)

Wow, Swords and Soldiers is damn fun. My only purchase so far. What is this about Lost Winds not being good? :( I Love kirby canvus curse and that is what this looked like. On further youtubing that icarus game looked rather boring so I'm going to hold off for now, but Damn is swords and soldiers fun. I get a plants vs zombies vibe from it. Can't wait to see what this team does next.

I think it is a real shame that so much fluff exists on wiiware unlike psn or xbla. I stopped checking wiiware updates after the third week of family fishing or whatever crap they put out.

Decided to download Sujin Taisen on a whim. Very impressed :) Lots of depth for such a title, and a DSiWare game with online play at last! Weird that it doesn't have local multiplayer mind, but overall it's a great package, especially for 500 points.

If anyone fancies a game, my friend code is 129 - 070 - 126 - 627

This service needs more traditional platformers in the vein of Mega Man 9. Hell,I just wanna see some fucking sexy sprites, they can be 8 bit. As you see I have low standards. It would make my day if Poles Adventure got localized.

This service? Gaming in general needs traditional platformers right now. They're saying this generation has the most diversity but it's all useless if I can't run and jump once in a while.

There are so many, so many lists of "best WiiWare games". Hell, even the Nintendo Download team made one for the 1 year anniversary. You don't need to check anything weekly, all you need is to buy some games and play them.

I wish Nintendo will give in an add a portable gaming virtual console, I want to download some classic GB/GBC/GBA games.

Not sure why they haven't done it yet, currently there isn't much that separates the DSi from the DS/DS Lite.

This is pretty much what I think could take the concept and propel it to unreachable heights. If they could could add portable games and make it platform independent I'd go out and buy a second DSi to work with my NA Wii.

Damn, it's nearly 8:30 AM Eastern and no PR yet. Is it just press.nintendo.com being slow or something? Has anyone gotten the PR emailed to them yet?

If it's on time then the PR is usually posted at 9:00AM EST.

Choosing a game to download from the Wii™ Shop Channel or Nintendo DSi Shop™ can be a little like taking a personality test. Do you like mystery and surprises? A new WiiWare™ game offers elements of magic and pop-up excitement. Are you an extrovert who craves the spotlight? Try a Nintendo DSiWare™ title that turns players into rock stars. Do you crave competition and fierce action? Choose from a new car racing game or a bona fide martial-arts classic. Or maybe you’re more of a brainiac? What happened to Super Star Wars 2?

The whole month of Star Wars thing... Remember?... Nintendo?

They said coming weeks, not every week util it's over.

I suppose, but that only leaves two Mondays for the remainder of August, so if they want to get them all out they'll have to release them one after the other. Unless the month of Star Wars is only signified by Super Star Wars and the contests and such, and we'll just get the other two games eventually.

Not as though I have points for them though.

Anyone have any idea if these are the same puzzles as were seen in BA/BA2?
We'll know in a little over 3 hours dude! Has this hit other regions yet? Even if so, the puzzles might be different, right?

I... that's what I was asking :D

But yeah, as I recall, it is the same interface as seen in BA/BA2, which is pretty much the greatest Sudoku interface I've ever seen. I've only seen screenshots of the Japanese version, though.

The only question is whether they sprung for some new puzzles from Nikoli or whether they've recycled oldies from the other games.

I am down with PictureBook Games.

I watched the video during E3 and I was just so totally turned off. What do you see in it?

Looks like an expanded version of some of the minigames from American Popstar: Road to Celebrity.

They could put one out every other week and have them released within a span of 29 days, even if it's not the same calendar month.

Yuzo Koshiro did the music. Instant buy. My first VC since...October 13 2008. Secret of Mana.

So when counting Shinobi it goes 3, 2 and then 1?

The question remains: Is Sega going to release the Arcade versions too like they did with Space Harrier?

Thx Capndrake for the early release.

I like board games. I like the art and I also am a big fan of relaxing games I can play with the wife.

Pop-Up Pursuit's soundtrack is composed by Takayuki Nakamura, who's responsible for the music in Tobal 2, Lumines and Ehrgeiz to name a few games. Just incase that makes a difference.

Not sure what you mean by "counting".

If they are in the order of their "goodness" then that's about right, although you forgot Shadow Dancer, which would go between 2 and 1. It's a pretty cool game that follows the conventions of the first game instead of the newer gameplay in 2 and 3.

Of course, there have been many other Shinobi games since.

Hmm...just realized I had 800 points on my DSi yesterday. Not sure what to get. Kind of bouncing between Mario vs Donkey Kong and the Mighty Flip Champs. Any better suggestions? I already have Aquia and PiCTOBiTS as well.

As usual I'll recommend Boxlife... :)

Out of the two you mentioned, I preferred M vs DK, but MFC is also good, though I gave up on trying to get S-ranks after missing ladders, etc. due to being one pixel off too many times. More fun to just solve the puzzles.

Ooh, I've never played Revenge of Shinobi. I'll pick that one up.

Loved Revenge of Shinobi. Gotta pick that game up. I really wished these right holders would grant game companies complimentary rights just for the licensed games. I know it won't happen but one could only wish. There's still some great licensed games that haven't been released on the VC due to expired rights.

The Giant Bomb folks are going to have a field day this week while recording the podcast.

You're kidding, right? When has Disney, or any other media corporation, ever given its IP publishing licenses away for free?

One could only wish. I know it's an impossibility.

Incidentally, many companies are getting smarter about rights deals. This is mostly in the music camp, but there are several TV shows that have had their soundtracks altered because of expired rights. These days companies develop stronger contracts to allow them to use these songs as long as the product is distributed, whether one year or twenty years from now. This situation is what has kept the Wonder Years from being released as a DVD box set. It would be too expensive to get the rights to the music again.

Been playing a lot of Sujin Taisen lately, the online play is a lot of fun :) Can't recommend this enough to PAL region folk, it's a great buy for 500 points. Hopefully it'll hit America soon. Don't overlook this gem folks!
