Nintendo Downloads - July 2014

what is this?

I don't think it was mentioned here, but if you need some eShop funds, starting on 8/3, Target is doing a deal where if you buy one gaming card (eShop, PSN, Xbox Live, etc.), then you get the 2nd one 25% off. So if you got two $10 cards, it'd total $17.50 for $20 worth, or two $20 cards would equal $35.

Oh, thanks for the heads up! That's a decent deal.

Nintendo Enthusiast made a video talking about ZaciSa´s Last Stand, which is the game made by fellow gaffer Gulatica. Says good things about it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEqJChJK5Vw

I like this kid from Nintendo Enthusiast. He´s pretty and dosent have an annoying voice, which is a rare quality among people who makes youtube videos about videogames...
:)

Nintendo Enthusiast people are pretty cool, used to do reviews for them before I got bogged down with work (as well as making my game lol)

Whoa, quite a list. So, sörine, except for the GBA games you listed, are all of the others already on Wii VC?

Woah thanks, I just bought the 3 Photos with Mario cards yesterday. Time to get that 25% back!

Not sure if it was mentioned, but the kongregate gamestop coupon works on eshop cards, I have bought 8 or so 10 dollar cards for 5 each and will probably buy another 5-10 before it ends.

YMMV on that, as I tried using those on eShop cards since I want to get some funds for the upcoming Capcom VC titles, but the person at the counter said "they used to, but the manager won't let them now". He said it might differ depending who's running the cashier, but when I tried again, it was the same guy. I'm gonna see if I can grab another one & try it again at a different location since I'll be out of town for the weekend.

That is so sad, Nintendo of America alone can fix a ton of that. Not sure if it is worth it for 3rd parties to reup for the WiiU here in the states. It kind of seems like they missed their window with the droughts we had last year and this year. We are headed in to some decent releases this fall that will take away money from what would have been otherwise good VC releases

That being said if Konami would release the TG16 games I would pay the upgrade fee for almost every single one of them

To be fair, that list includes 13 games under the Wii U which are also listed under the 3DS.
So, unless one is going to buy both versions of the game (since lolnocrossbuy), that makes the number of unique games a bit less.

But, yes, we definitely have a significant amount of catching up to do.
And, as you said, a significant amount of ire that should be directed toward Konami as well (hey Konami, where's our TurboGrafx 16 support here in the US!)

That said, they do look a little cheap and are a tad bit generic, but they are actually fun budget games.

well it sure would be nice to play a decent RPG on a system basically without any (XCX, where are you?)

if it's at a fair price I may give it a shot

That sucks, hope when I go back tomorrow they still let me

Works fine for me (obv in offscreen play inventory takes up whole of gamepad screen when you enter inventory). You touch the screen to open it and can set items to sets of buttons.

So you have L+y, L+b, L+x, L+a, then R+ all those, and also L+R plus y,b,x,a. So I keep melee weapons assigned to L+ybxa, projectiles like ice rod, bow to R+ybxa, and potions, teleports scroll are on the L+R slots.

Hopefully that makes sense. For example, say you open the inventory and assign a spear to R+x. In gameplay, hold the R bumper and press x to get your spear out, then without any bumpers pressed, ybxa are just your regular actions (attack, jump etc.)

sounds good...probably I'll download it as next eshop game

That sucks, hope when I go back tomorrow they still let me

The coupons still work as I got some more eshop cards today. I usually go in and politely ask if they could try this and see if it will work with one card. When it does I go and get a few more off the shelf. One time I had a minor issue where an employee said "They updated those coupons a few min ago to not work on cards!", but I asked the other guy to try and it went through. Also if you have more than one Gamestop around, try different locations.

I paid for Mario Kart 8 this way when I got the system. I know Nintendo doesn't have the best system for recovering/moving games if you get another system, but for $30 plus $10 credit back from MK8 and Pikmin 3, it was well worth it. Now to decide if I want to get more games with these or hold them until Bayonetta 2.

Whoa, quite a list. So, sörine, except for the GBA games you listed, are all of the others already on Wii VC?
Not all are. My criteria for listing was only games that previously got a western release, either on the original hardware or as a VC import.

Keep in mind Konami charges more for upgrading their PCE games (about $3). I'd pay it though.

And according to Reggie the US is by far the biggest VC market. It really just doesn't make sense the way Konami or Square Enix are sleeping on it.

I'm one of those Nintendo whales who buys both. :(

Though I only play my NES stuff on 3DS because it looks like a blurry mess on Wii U. On Wii U I'm only $1 upgrading my Wii VC really.

Something else to consider is that NCL basically halted 3DS VC a couple months back, which is probably why NOA and NOE are slowly catching up there.

I really miss the old eshop games thread! I'm not that interested in VC and it's quite difficult to skip through VC discussions and wars and continuous complains on what could have been and it's not.

Is that the official name for people who double dip on VC games across 3DS & Wii U in this lowly no-crossbuy era?

I actually enjoy all the VC bitching. I just wish there was a way to direct it to Nintendo... directly. I do my part on every Club Nintendo survey.

Yeah, I miss the separate threads too.

But, this is what was placed upon us.

Ditto, I would of likely have used it to chat announcements about my own game when I have some (like updates/etc). That and just general place to talk about eShop, non-VC, games would been great.

...and continuous complains on what could have been and it's not.

I have to say this has been buggin me lately too....

I dont see it a lot in this thread specifically, but the amount of "Why hasnt nintendo done this" threads... its a bit too much.

(i too believe nintendo should have done a billion different things - including calling me to direct my own game only for myself - but i dont keep talking and talking and talking about it)

Don't get me wrong, people have the right to complain, it's just difficult for me to find news about new eshop games to come or impressions about existing ones among all this.

There are still threads for the Wii U VC and the 3DS VC which can be used for VC discussion.

I'd be glad to revitalize my old thread about eshop games...
Hmm we could find a solution without a thread by creating a google doc (linked in the op) with released, upcoming and recommended games.

edit: forgot the 3DS VC thread.

I hope GulAtiCa finds some time to update that thread. I'll bump it tomorrow with Megaman Battle Network coming out, even though we have an OT for it.

That's be awesome. A lot more happening with eShop originals than on VC.

Haha, he just started updating the thread today =).

I need to do my part with 3DS VC but I've been lazy haha.

I would disagree with that, actually. I don't have a couple of lists in front of me but I would bet on Wii U we're actually ahead of where the Wii Virtual Console was at the same point in that console's lifetime -- if we're excluding stuff from Konami (including Hudson). I really think they're the big difference, although Square-Enix sure could wake up and do something already.

Well in the list I quoted, Nintendo published and out right owns the rights to 13 WiiU VC games that aren't out in the west. That doesn't include anything on the list they may have published in the west and could help publish on VC.

That's not an insignificant amount of games.

Affordable Space Adventures will be at Gamescom, I'm really looking forward to see it live. I'm confused about the release date now, as on their site and on Nintendo site it's still Fall 2014, while on indiemegabooth site is Q1 2015.

I'd be surprised if it came out this year. The lady demoing it at E3 corrected the Treehouse rep when they said it was coming out this year.

Yeah, it's probably Q1 2015 now. But it's a pity if they miss the holiday season, especially now in Europe with no Toad in December.

Some people might search for Nintendo Downloads...it might be a bit over the top though.

Played a bit of Pokemon Link Battle.
...

*-Apparently they become friendly really quickly though...what does friendly do? Some think it is +4 stars of power as but there is no bloody proof and the game is useless at telling you exactly what the difference between 1 and 5 stars of attack is. Maybe some Japanese wiki has figured it out...Edit: Japanese wiki kind of figured it out no idea of friendship but 5* is a coefficient of 15 vs. coefficient of 10 for 1* (basically 5* is 50% stronger which isn't as big as you would expect...).
I did some easy tests on friendly. A non friendly Pancham was doing 10 damage in a basic match 3 attack. When friendly it did 15 which I think is the same a 5* attack Pokemon would do (I should have checked). It also did this increased damage when you did not bring it as a partner. That bit is an added benefit to friendliness I guess.

As for Pokemon with higher attack stars. Friendly Charizard with 3* attack did 16 damage in the same match 3 test. It also took much longer to become friendly. Maybe 1* no ability Pokemon are not so lame after all...

As for how the game is going. I also had a 50,000+ score, 102 link streak blown on stage 9-3. The boss did the lame enter your screen then knock your pieces away as they're about to link so you can't do enough damage to finish it off before it finished you *sigh*. I really need to learn when to go for score and when to go for minimum to capture (I noticed the OK symbol appearing which tells you when you can stop, unless you are going for score). I'm going to have to re-do this stage as well as my bare minimum ended up with a B rank (S ranks are needed to unlock all the stages).

What's going to be released this week? We usually get some news here a few days before.
America? Press releases are on Thursday for Thursday releases (about a few hours before release). Sometimes Nintendo.com have some games dated and sometimes developers say their game is coming out.

As for Europe. Press releases are on Monday for the Thursday release (unless it is a Holiday in Germany) and that detail should be in the OP.

FBFW I like the current title. I don't see people necessarily going off and having substantive discussions about VC in a separate thread on an ongoing basis so I think this works best as a hub thread for VC and eShop games.
