Good stuff. Production of the presentation is f**king awful though!

Metroid footage would have tipped it over the edge into greatness, even just some pre-rendered art/video.

watched a few mins. black out time

A lot more 2018 surprises than I expected. Need to see more 3rd party.

Mario Odyssey looks crazy. Was it announced to be using UE4 before? That surprises me as a mainline release.

Kirby looks cute and I was already onboard with the Mario Rabbids strategy game after yesterday. I'm happy to see Prime 4 and Pokemon eventually, hopefully with less forced cutscenes and tutorials in Pokemon though I won't hold my breath.

Jesus, Mario look bizonkers.

That's how you end a presentation.

Prime 4, XBC2, Mario, Mario+Rabbids, maybe Kirby and Yoshi, all buys unless they seriously fucked up, but all (save Rabbids) are pedigrees that haven't really had *bad* releases.

Interesting that Rocket League was the only indie on there when they have a pretty large number of indies coming out.

Nintendo wins the 'conferences' for me. No long drawn out sorta gameplay demos, no harping on how awesome your tech is or how exclusive your stuff is, straight solid trailers. MP4 gets a pass for doing the 'no info no nothing' announcement, but just knowing that it's something being worked on is huge for me and I eagerly await footage.

Plus, Mario as a T-Rex.

Decent e3 spotlight. Mario looks great. Xenoblade 2 doesn't look too hot in my opinion. Kirby and Yoshi look like decent retreads in familiar territory. Metroid Prime 4 is awesome but just the title? The Fire Emblem Warriors trailer showed nothing.

It was a little disappointing overall because I was hoping for another decent-to-big 1st party title for this year. Even if it was Smash Bros DX or something.

Meh.

If a basic smash 4 remix/port was happening we'd know about it already

Fact that we haven't seen smash yet makes me believe that it's going to basically be a whole new game when it comes.

Which is good. I wouldn't be happy about basically playing smash 4 again

Somebody needs to teach Nintendo that it's possible to tease a game with something more than a logo/announcement and not take focus away from 2017 games.

Well, they actually pre-announced 4 future games (Yoshi, Kirby, Metroid 4 and Pokemon GDR). Even if Metroid doesn't scream 2018, but 2019 at best, they still gave a little bit of prospective, considering also the already announced FE for a 2018 release.
Considering how they have so far confirmed all the 2017 games announced without any particular delay, I'd say that the first party output is shaping up pretty nicely.

Third party wise is a depressing desert. Not even a MH XX localization announcement. Nothing about Japanese third party games in general, not even the already announced one (that probably are way far from release, such as SMTHD)

I am surprised at the GAF reaction. It was fast and to the point and at the end left me excited instead of bored ala the bloated MS conference.

Thought it was great

I have to say, though. I'm a tad concerned. Mario games usually seem to get a lot better with subsequent trailers, but I think this is the first Mario game that looks worse than before.

I hope I'm wrong, but it is what it is. D:

Well, Xenoblade is looking really to be 2017.

Excited for another Yoshi platformer after Woolly World.

Also will look at Kirby. I don't end up buying many of those games but I really liked the SNES/GB games so I always look at them.

And...Metroid Prime 4...as soon as the space showed up I was like "is this it? it has to be! don't do this to yourself!" And then the lightning and the music. My god.

Of course, no details leaves one with doubts as to who is making it and when it comes and how Metroid it will be but...fucking Metroid Prime 4.

Mario looked worse than 3D World tbh. Nothing redeemable about that E3 show, maybe Yoshi. Metroid and Pokemon are 1-2 years away, no DK, no Smash, 3rd party largely ignoring the Switch. It's Wii U all over again...

Odyssey just doesn't look cohesive. I'm sure the gameplay is fun but visually Mario x Rabbids is how a modern Mario game should look.

Terrible for me. I mean knowing that Metroid is in development is nice but without anything to show...it can be easily a late 2019 title, the same for pokemon. The other stuff was known and yeah odyssey looks fabulous but we were counting with that.

Well maybe next year Nintendo will convince me.

I personally think this was better than this year Sony's but then again that's a not a high bar to clear.

I still remember the shitty puppet show fiesta where they have nothing to show and just make puppet to pad the direct.

The presentation was solid. It was too thin though, so I expected more. Had they shown more on Metroid they probably would have won.

Second best presentation 5.5/10

Final score

EA 2/10
MS 2/10
BS 3/10
Sony 3/10
Nintendo 5.5/10
Ubisoft 6/10

Congrats Ubisoft for winning E3!

I'd grade these on a curve. Nintendo and Sony have other forms of communication. Nintendo has shown a few things over the past weeks and Sony has their conference in December. Neither really needs E3.

Can't wait for Penny Arcade to update their 2010 comic

I liked Xenoblade 2 for 2017, same as Super Mario Odyssey. Holy shit at Pokémon and Metroid Prime 4 being in development.

Direct would've been 10/10 if we got new info on Shin Megami Tensei.

Meh.
Seems like this was just a lull year overall.

Really weird move by both Sony and Nintendo to completely leave out indies. I actually really look forward to those rapid fire announcements. Plus, I was hoping for a Stardew date.
