So I have been stating how hyped I am for this. Well, guess it wasn't a lot because the real hype just kicked in. I literally just stood up and jumped up and down like a little kid. I am 26 years old. OH JESUS LAWDY LAWDY HYPE HYPE.

I'm 25 and I've screamed like a little girl while watching certain Directs. I won't be alone when I'm watching the E3 Direct in a few hours, so I'll have to restrain myself this time :/

And Nintendo, the company with no real sharing/DVR/movies featureset will not do the same?

And Sony WASTED their first hour

Sony wasted the first hour only because they had 2 hours to fill.

Nintendo of course only has games so that's great but when has that stopped them from showing more games? I mean just last year instead of showing W101, they decided to show Nintendoland for an extended period.

What I meant was no BS about games we have already seen for almost a year now, meaning extended demos, and please for the love of god Nintendo show games which might be even 2 years away.

Imagine if the ND ends with a really cool 30 second tease for the next Zelda? Done in the style of the demo but a quick tease to let players know it looks fucking beautiful and its coming. Something like what MS did with Halo. That Halo game probably won't come until 2015, same as Zelda, but you bet your ass it fired up the fanbase.

I've been trying to keep my expectations low. I'm not expecting more than Wind Waker HD, the promised 3D Mario, Smash Bros. and some new footage of something like X or Bayonetta 2.

I'm not good at this whole "hype" thing. :(

I don't know but just that is enough to keep me at moderate levels of hype :)

That is your low expectations? That alone would be their strongest E3 in years.

Where the hell is all this pessimism coming from? GET HYPE EVERYBODY! NINTENBROS UNITE!

What I'm hoping for:
3D Mario releasing this year
Retro gameplay trailer of new IP or DK
Super Mario 3D Land 2
1 unknown Wii U game revealed like Wario 3D platformer

Also one thing I find curious. With the majority of gaming developers, publishers, and journalism all gathered in LA why is the direct not more convenient for their time zone? It seems to be more set up for the east coast and international audiences.

Should have scheduled it for 10am pacific time/ 1pm eastern time.

I'd be totally satisfied if that would happen. As will any other Nintendo fan. Realism might strike the day after, though.

One thing that just occurred to me, I've noticed a general lack of Japanese games at this E3 so far... That's not all that unusual since E3 is more of an American event, but they've been especially lacking this year.

Maybe they're all going to be in the Nintendo Direct!

Hype, etc...

The first half hour will be stuff we already know I'm sure. Pikmin, W101, Wario Ware (again). Then at the 40 minute mark NintenGAF will meltdown. "WHERE ARE THE NEW GAMES?!?!?!" Then from 40 an onwards the bombs will be dropped and NintendoGAF will be in bliss.

To build on what I said.

If the ND includes

A beautifully done teaser trailer for the next Zelda
Awesome looking new IP by Retro AND possibly a glimpse at the next DKCR game
The return of Mario as the industry defining title (like Galaxy did and all other Marios before)

In addition to all the other stuff confirmed and expected, Nintendo will have a great presentation.

Wasn't there also some talk about at least 2 cool looking indie games?

btw you were asking before if people could see your avatar. i can't, it just shows a "file corrupt" icon thing

Oh well. I can see it. It's the hand symbol of the Dark Brotherhood from Skyrim. Some people can see and some can't. It was successfully added to the airship. Thanks for the concern though good sir.

Even my most minimal expectations(show me Mario, Smash and X) would leave me satisfied, and I think all of those are already confirmed. I'm hoping for pleasant surprises of course, but I'll be happy either way.

As long as the games look good I feel like it's impossible for nintendo to have a bad show. Showing a surprise or 2 will only make things better.

People don't seem to understand that by doing a Direct, Nintendo could choose how long their presentation was. They haven't had an hour forced upon them, they've planned the Direct and decided on an hour. Yet I see posts like "will there be enough time?", "an hour isn't long enough.

If what people are worried about is how long games will be seen, there will be interviews, videos, impressions, screenshots and more from the moment the Direct finishes up until each game is released over the months. This Direct will cover games but it won't be the first and last we see of them.

Man, I'm not even interested in these PS4 games, but that thing will destroy everything this year, considering the mood right now. They did everything right.

The second Iwata starts talking about Wii Fit or similar shit, the WiiU is dead. I mean, it already is dead in the water right now, which should have been no surprise looking at how they've been handling it since last E3, but this time it will literally be over by next year or so. Despite some good reception these 3D Mario games will get from Nintendo fans (only). Not only does he need lots of surprises to keep up with the PS4 in winter, but show that he hasn't become completely incompetent when it comes to the market yet, by still counting on these fucking Wii_ cash ins.

Yep 1 hour without bullshit this time is great. Hopefully Iwata doesn't stay on small things too long like previous directs.

Sorry, Galaxy wasn't industry-defining.

This is what bothers me. Galaxy 2 came out how long ago? And wasn't 3D Land finished by another developer? How could EAD Tokyo manage things so poorly?

2010 isn't that long ago actually! That would be about 3 years development time which is more than standard for a big HD Game. Then take into account that Mario 3D Land and Galaxy 2 were 80% same staff. I'm awaiting the day EAD Tokyo announces 2 main titles at the same time, instead of the usual Mario game alongside some wacky e-shop app.

One possible concern... We haven't really seen any major HD nintendo games yet, have we? Not other than Pikmin, which started as a wii game.

What if they really are having serious trouble learning to make good looking HD games?

edit// I think they're going to look good personally, but I've sensed some concern in some other posts, and why not? This is a big day for Nintendo. Will their HD work match the quality of that Twilight Princess demo from the WII U debut? Cause if it does, everything will be alright. If not, some will be disappointed. I probably won't care myself if the games look fun enough.

Well, Nintendo Land looks great, but it has a simplistic art-style.

And X looks very good too.

But it is basically 3D (or is 3D reffering to Marios "structure" rather to the worlds structure...hype is making me confused

"3D Mario" generally refers to mainline Mario platforming games such as 64, Sunshine and Galaxy. All Paper Mario games have been 3D rendered, but they are still part of a different sub-series.

To be fair, X is not being developed by the "Nintendo" the other poster is talking about. But considering how much expertise is available these days for HD development, there's no reason that Nintendo should struggle that much. One would hope they'd hire the best and the brightest for their most significant projects.

We're about to find out. :)

Monolith and Retro will surely deliver on that front.

Not long till we find out either way.

At the very least, I expect Smash Bros. to be gorgeous. Sakurai and Namco should be able to produce a stellar looking game.

Other internal Nintendo studios, who knows...

Hey guys. Unfortunately I need to skip watching Direct live. Do we know if it is uploaded somewhere soon after release and will someone make a link (not the elf dude) to it in some spoiler free thread?

Would be 3 years and 6 months for the Wii U release (if it comes out in November).

That's my point. There is no good reason why this new game shouldn't rock us at our core, but I'm skeptical based on them needing help finishing a handheld game. From my perspective, western studios are churning out sprawling adventure games for multiple platforms in half that time. With that in mind, I expect nothing short of greatness- hence why I'm skeptical.
