i think the dumbest thing microsoft did today was launch a slimmer xbox 360 at $300 that looks pretty similar to the xbox one. it's like they deliberately wanted confusion between the two devices.

I'm awake (thanks, daughter, for the 6.30 alarm call), and just realised I've had my final sleep before Nintendo Direct. The day has finally come. T-8 hours, and my body is ready.

I woke up at 5am this morning because I couldn't sleep, like Xmas morning. I'm really excited for this Nintendo Direct and please Nintendo, don't disappoint.

I really think some, including me, are underestimating Nintendo, I mean, they bringed Bayonetta 2 back from the death after all, anything's possible...

This is Nintendo do, so I always set third party expectations exceeding low, and I always still end up disappointed lol.

If they spend 10 minutes of the Nintendo Direct on the stupid Summer Update, I will slap someone. Yes we want info on it, no it's NOT the time to be talking about it. Save that shit for the media after the ND.

Agree, wtf was up with that. They must not have so much faith in the xbone and want to ride 360 boat still.

There's not a logic in a lot of the games that are straight up not coming to Wii U
But this is different. Sony didn't announce the game as exclusive... and this is Sony we're talking about, if it was exclusive they'd let you know that shit. Also, each KH game on Nintendo consoles sold a million plus copies., just as well as any non mainline KH game. Someone explain to me why it's so out there to expect it to come to the Wii U? Are you guys really that beat up over Ninty's 3rd party support?

The PS4 price is definitely a killer. They need to cut the price, but people were already waiting for a cut after seeing what happened with the 3DS.

It probably will be. Sony didn't announce it as exclusive and I don't know why Square Enix would put it on Xbone and not Wii U where it has an established fanbase. All 3 games on Ninty consoles sold 1M +

I'm pretty sure that the bulk of the fanbase isn't on Nintendo systems, and certainly not on Nintendo home consoles.

I got a bit messed up, I thought the games were getting revealed at the showcase, which i mistook for another direct. This means I have an even shorter time to wait!

Even if there are no surprises, we're getting the first look and details of Mario, Mario Kart and Smash Bros. Just because we know the games exist doesn't mean that they won't be surprising

Come on guys...happy happy joy joy

Agreed! Knowing the name/character is nothing compared to seeing how it will play or what it will even look like.

There's still plenty to be excited about!

And besides 3D Mario, Mario Kart and Wind Waker HD they need one more 1st party game by the end of the year

3 of their biggest franchises are no longer enough?

Besides, there'll be Pikmin, TW101, Wii Party, Wii Fit. That's seven games in 5 months in the US. It's also more than the 3DS had when it was 'saved'.

And they need to have more for next year. With Zelda in 2015 and SSB for holidays 2014 Nintendo needs more than X, Atlus game, Yoshi and Bayonetta/Retro's game for next year. I think they need to have 1-2 1st party games per month one year from now to build up the sales.

Two games a month for a year from Nintendo would be unprecedented. They already have 6 games for next year, based on your assumptions. There should be more than that over the whole year, but don't be expecting 2 per month for the whole year. That's crazy.

Fixed for requisite PS+ sub (if ya want online mp), but yeah I think Nintendo should go with a 274.99 bundle (with Mario Kart and free online).

Well yea with PS+ if you want online multiplayer. I have PS+ anyway for the free games and I'll probably keep it if they continue that into the PS4. I think it still makes the Wii U pricing look bad. $349 is tough to swallow when the average consumer looks at the PS4 price and its better performance.

I think Nintendo needs now to drop the price to $299. There is no way around it. And not necessarily because of Sony. They have some overlapping potential customer base with Xbone and a $200 difference can be pretty decisive.

They have to drop the price, but not now. There is no software coming out not only to take advantage of the drop but to entice people to buy. August with Pikmin is much better and I think that's why the game is getting released in thar month in NA. Also a price drop less than a year later is kind of a PR negative abd can bring down the rest of Nintendo's news so its best to do it seperately later.

That collection of four games outsell the entire library that MS and Sony bring. How is it not enough?

I agree with this sentiment.

OMG the wait is killing me. I know they're just a corporation like all the rest but MAN I hope they knock it out of the park with this ND.

I'm pretty sure that the bulk of the fanbase isn't on Nintendo systems, and certainly not on Nintendo home consoles.

Would get them some additional sales though. Especially due to the fact that kingdom hearts can also appeal to younger audiences

Dude... c'mon now. Where's the logic in it NOT coming? Doom and gloom logic clouds the mind.

Maybe the fact that there is a huge power difference between Wii U and PS4, and Wii U has been an absolute failure. Plus, KH3D sold disappointing numbers in Japan, and the situation would probably be worse on consoles.

I'm not saying it can't happen, but I'll be genuinely surprised if it does at this point. I thought that maybe Nintendo would throw major money at SE for exclusivity.

I didn't say the bulk of the fanbase was on Nintendo systems, but at least a third of the fanbase is.

Maybe the fact that there is a huge power difference between Wii U and PS4
Yeah, I guess that's why Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed Black Flag aren't coming to the Wii U. I guess that's why Crysis 3 was a PC exclusive.

I just want them emphasize on surprises. Except, Retro and Smash, the others are pretty much expectable. I don't know for you, but for me E3 is about surprises.

final prediction:

i feel like i'm the only one here who thought microsoft's conference was way better than sony's. sony's biggest announcement was 'we will not fuck you in the ass.' uh. thanks.

Totally agree. If you're just looking at games, MS put on a better show, and their conference was more watchable.

But the price and DRM issues just made all that irrelevant to me. That and the fact that the most of the best games at both conferences were mutliplatform, so they don't really matter anyway. I can actually play them on either system.

I get that, and that's why I dislike leaks, but these games are still surprises :)

I do wish Nintendo hadn't have revealed they'd be here though

And I agree with you fully.

In terms of my personal gaming interests, Nintendo have already won going off the fact that there will be SSB4, MKU, Mario, Retro, X, Bayo 2, 101, LttP2, WWHD... various awesome 3DS titles and hopefully a Wii U secret or two. I can't wait.

final prediction:

everything we already know. maybe one new announcement (not including retro's game). it will be a more condensed version of sony's thing.

i feel like i'm the only one here who thought microsoft's conference was way better than sony's. sony's biggest announcement was 'we will not fuck you in the ass.' uh. thanks.

You're not. Microsoft had a better press conference games wise.

The baton is passed to Nintendo now.

my problem here is that despite the ps4 allowing me to own games, they're joining in on the fun of locking away content that will be crucial to most upcoming titles. the theme this gen seems to be mmo open-world games. that makes pretty much all multiplatform games useless to me unless i build myself a pc.

I do not understand deflated hype from some when we're guaranteed to see Mario, MK and Smash Bros, the three biggest Nintendo IPs. Oh, and X, Bayonetta 2 and Yoshi. And most likely Retro's game. And you know there will be at least one surprise.

Seriously guys:

We don't have yet dates for Wii Party U and Wii Fit U, let's see. But the games already certain for 2013 are addressing different categories of people and that's good, but you need also some consistency. That why I am mentioning 1-2 games per month. I am not expecting 2 games per month for the whole year, but I could see rather 3 games each 2 month to be better. Because this is not only about Nintendo fans (who bought already the console, like me). Until the 3rd parties are on board for next year Nintendo needs to fill in the blanks. Another January to April like this year would be deadly.

I'm with you. Sony was really, "Hey, we didn't devise a system to fuck you over, and the console is $399." That was it.

You're not alone, as this is exactly how I feel, but near everyone I've spoken to disagrees. *shrug*. Microsoft had a better projection of games than Sony, by a long shot, even if they did have the far shittier system.

Agreed.

i think a lot of people had their opinions decided in advance, given how the paywall stuff is being swept under the rug so readily after years of crowing about psn being better than live.

Yeah. I think the Sony fans especially had a lot of pent-up concern, and this reveal was catnip for them. The straight jabs at Microsoft are what have them reveling. So much so that the fact that they're eating words on paying for online means nothing anymore to them.

It was the combination of everything though, even if it was stuff I didn't want. Opening with the next gen announcement and reveal of Metal Gear Solid 5. Show off Ryse for the first time. Announce the return of Killer Instinct. Announce a new game, Sunset Overdrive. Show off more of Forza 5. First proper footage of Quantum Break. Announce Project Spark, demo it. Announce Crimson Dragon. Announce and show gameplay of Dead Rising 3. The Witcher 3's first gameplay footage and trailer. Confirm Battlefield 3 60fps. Tease next generation Halo. First gameplay footage of TitanFall.

The focus to me seemed mostly on games built for next generation systems, and that's what I liked, even if I didn't like the games themselves, and even if they're multiplatform. A major focus on next generation software.

Sony spent most of their time talking about partnerships, then did two live demos of two games primarily built with current generation hardware in mind. They did little to sell a future software forecast. We all know it's coming, but I would have liked to see it. Price/DRM/whatever is all great to here, but given I'm not buying either console day one all I really want to see is games. Games I haven't seen before, games built for next generation hardware. And that's where, in my opinion, Sony totally missed the mark, and where Microsoft played a far better hand.

And when Nintendo's rolls around, I expect a lot of predictable though lovely Nintendo. Few, if any, legitimate surprises.

EDIT: I forget about FFXV and KH3, but it's probably because I couldn't give a flying fuck about either. KH is a shit franchise and Final Fantasy hasn't been good for a long time. Versus XIII was in deep development hell for an entire generation. Just because you re-announce it and make it a mainline game does not convince me it will be good.

This is absolutely it. Microsoft had me thinking a lot about how games next-gen will be. Even the games that usually fall flat (like Spark) actually grabbed me in the end. It was a very impressive software lineup. Sony completely failed in that for me. The only games I have an interest in look like 2014, and late 2014 at that. My wife is excited about Infamous at least but ... yeah, it's looking pretty bare.

In fact, if Sony's was the only conference today, I'd probably be feeling really depressed about gaming's future. I think they were fortunate to ride off high of the software shown earlier in the day even though it wasn't at their conference.

I get that, and that's why I dislike leaks, but these games are still surprises :)

I do wish Nintendo hadn't have revealed they'd be here though
I guess you're right. We know the games but the details are pretty much a surprise... Only a few hours left until we see probably one of the best next gen games, Mario. Certainly, a reaskn to be hyped.

You're not. Microsoft had a better press conference games wise.

Yea game wise Microsoft did a lot better, too bad their Hardware\online drm sucks ass, which means I'll never buy the Xbox One. The PS4 conference was VERY underwhelming in terms of games though.

Well shit, reading your posts about how bad they handled the PS3 and PSV and the pacing is making me rethink Sony's conference. I didn't get caught up in the whole Sony killed Xbone thing as a part of my thoughts on the conference because it should be expected, Nintendo already does those things, and it should be about the games & presentation when rating press conferences.

I'm thinking that MS and Sony's were equal so 7/10 for both of them.

I just want them emphasize on surprises. Except, Retro and Smash, the others are pretty much expectable. I don't know for you, but for me E3 is about surprises.

This is actually a troubling thing. Nintendo releases a fairly wide variety of titles. However, it's the big names that get the most attention, and no one is surprised to see them (though they may be excited).
Fresh faces tend to either be casual things that don't attract this crowd or fantastic games that no one buys.

Even if there are no surprises, we're getting the first look and details of Mario, Mario Kart and Smash Bros. Just because we know the games exist doesn't mean that they won't be surprising

I agree.

Also... Damn, I didn't want before, but I think I'll get a PS4 one day now.. :/ But no BC is stingy.. I don't have the space for PS3 AND PS4
(AND WiiU... and NES/SNES/N64/GC)
:/

That's what a Direct is for. No walking on and off stage, no technology mishaps, no long demo-plays. Trailers & information. Or, at least, hopefully. Stuff like the LttP2 Direct gives me hope that they can cover a lot of ground quickly in a Direct.

Iwata takes a very long time to talk though...

i feel like i'm the only one here who thought microsoft's conference was way better than sony's. sony's biggest announcement was 'we will not fuck you in the ass.' uh. thanks.
Microsoft had a better conference; it was better paced and well-presented, and ran smoothly with the exception of the BF4 snafu. Sony's was poorly paced, often tedious and the presenters were at times awkward - except Yoshida who is awesomesauce.

It's not even about announcements. Microsoft simply put on a better spectacle.

That's the way it is every year really.

It doesn't matter though because the most important points to come out of those two conferences to a lot of watchers was $499 vs $399 and DRMed to hell vs you can actually own your discs.

Also, KH3 is pretty big.

I am curious now whether Nintendo essentially have to announce a price drop for the Wii U.
