Nintendo, I'm ready for Metroid Prime™ 4.

The team that made the Metroid Prime Trilogy is long gone from Retro. Do you really trust a new team of people coming in to butcher the franchise? They probably don't even know about the after credits scene in Metroid Prime 3.

It was nowhere near the level of Other M. In terms of mechanics, story, and graphics, Metroid other m >>>> Metroid Prime.

At least we agree on something.

I went into MP3 expecting so much and got so little. I went into Other M expecting nothing and got.. Something.
I can understand, but Prime 3 is like, so much better in every way that expectations don't matter much. Then again, I also got NOTHING from Other M.

I want a new Metroid with 2D and 3D sections, yeah something like Other M butgwith all the wrong things fixed, Prime 4 would be nice too but after Fusion and Zero Mission I need more 2D Metroid in my life.

I'd never say no to HD Metroid Prime, but I'd be fine with Another M if they fixed a few things. Story goes without saying, but also stuff like cooler environments and better power up system. Other M played exactly like what I always imagined a 3D Metroid would be like, and I really did feel like a badass a handful of times while playing, namely stuff with the speed boost and screwattack. I think it really could be something special with some tweaks

Plus I'd rather have Retro doing DKCR2 even if I know I'm in the minority

Can we all agree that whether in 3d or 2d, the next Metroid game should be a remake of Metroid II: The Return of Samus?

...anyone?

Jesus, when did Metroid Prime become so hated!? I thought Prime was always loved by all!

I think it's the bitterness of the absense of 2D Metroid, which I can totally understand. I want some more 2D myself. But don't shit talk a great series like Prime.

I dunno, people... it's just that... whoa... I never expected the majority of you to bash so harshly on the Prime series, even to the extent of preferring a sequel to Other M over them. This makes me sad indeed :( it's simply the best 3D transposition of a 2D classic since Zelda made into the polygonal realm, hell, perhaps even more dramatically revolutionary than Mario64! It's just what I'd have imagined the series would be ten years into the future at the time of Super Metroid.

Well there's always been an extremely vocal minority about that trilogy, it's not really a new thing.

On the subject of the next Metroid, I'd be more interested in Sakamoto continuing with it with better staff behind him. There's a lot of things that were right about Other M, and a lot that weren't, but they can certainly polish that style of Metroid into something impressive. However, I think sales are going to be severely limited for it if it mostly takes place on a 2D plane like Other M did. I'm not sure if that means they should go back to it being an FPS, but it probably needs another revamp for the next console entry. Perhaps purely 3rd person would be the way to go.

I'll take 2d platforming, wall jumping, speed boosting, etc any day, and twice on sundays

Sure, but you just said you don't like one of the core elements of the series. What's the point of the stuff you are mentioning if not to explore the world?

Gameplay wise I like the 2D approach better but I do think it would be massive shame not to see what Retro could do with the Prime series on more modern hardware.

Theres been a Metroid 2 remake project goin on for a couple of years now. It's pretty far along.
Theres gonna be some new areas, abilities and bosses added I believe. When I remember what it's called, I'll link it.

Not as interesting as the premise makes it sound, to be honest. Hell, the zeta, gamma and Omega metroids basically just shot fireballs at you and that was it.

I have to say I barely even remember what I played in it. Bosses? No idea. Except for the super-easy metroid queen, of course.

I think Other M and Fusion have done enough fanservice. Time for something else. See what the Chozo are up to or something. Surely they weren't all snuffed out.

I always thought a third-person game similar to Super Mario Galaxy 2 with a Yoshi's tongue-style aiming system would work great for Metroid.

I remember thinking about this when I played Galaxy 2. Something about using the pointer for grappling is very appealing. Pandora's Tower is another good example of this, perhaps more relevant because it's much closer to being a metroid-vania type game.

Metroid is probably resting for a bit.

Sakamoto, when finally given absolute power to make the game he wanted, showed that Super Metroid and Fusion were decent games in spite of, not because of, his involvement.

Depending on what type of juice he still has left, he might have mothballed Metroid if he can no longer have direct involvement in it. For any success Prime had in raising Metroid's profile, Papa Saks buried it again with his fanfic.

I was rewatching the Metroid Prime 3: Corruption ending on YouTube, and realized I beat it exactly 5 years ago today. Half a freaking decade ago. So much has changed, in the world and in the industry, in that time period. It's been a really long time.

Metroid Prime 3 was the first non-Mario game I have ever bought. It was a truly new experience. It was like euphoria; the atmosphere greatly enhanced the experience. This game is up there in my personal top three, with Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Uncharted 2.

Nintendo, I'm ready for Metroid Prime 4. Make it a full on reboot. Nuke and wipe out Metroid: Other M from the Metroid canon, and give Metroid Prime 4 to Retro.

Are any of you ready for Metroid Prime 4?

Prime saga is over, lets just move on to Metroid V please. I want to see what happens after Fusion.

Personally, I would prefer if they would just ignore any continuity within the franchise and move to a more Zelda-esque approach: New adventure with winks and nods to previous adventures, but no set timeline. Make each game more about exploring a new facet of the Metroid universe without be shackled by the now convoluted timeline.

Haha, what in god's name am I reading. Thanks, I needed a laugh.

I'll take MP's beautiful environments and non-intrusive story over Other M's bland, plastic looking environments and enemies with extra anime bullshit story it shoves down your throat any day.

Ehhhh
We dont need a Metroid prime 4.
Especially after Other M, what we need is an actual Nintendo Developed 2D game on the 3DS.

I have no problems with Prime 3 (the only Prime I played) but Other M was just much better in every way imo (Other M's Zero Suit Samus is...hnnnnggg). So yeah, Other M 2 instead of Prime 4 for WiiU (or 3DS). There is a lot of potential in Other M that wasn't fully shown that could be enhanced in a sequel.

Metroid Prime ties with Super Metroid as the best Metroid, and is one of the best games Nintendo has ever produced. Ever. Forever. Good contender for best game on the GCN, and one of the best of last generation.

Would let Prime 4 ravish me in unspeakable ways.

You're my favorite. Nothing would get me to buy a Wii U faster than a new Prime game.

I don't know what I want from Metroid anymore. Nothing is going to beat Super Metroid on the 2d front and nothing will topple the first person adventuring of Metroid Prime. Other M was complete garbage, but I have no idea where the franchise should be headed. All I know is that I want something new...

The criticisms leveled at Prime 3 have more to do with the brief prologue, which is very Halo-esque. But it becomes pure Metroid after that. Isolated and creepy. I love the shit out of Prime 3. Nothing compares with that feeling of arriving in the Space Pirate Lab filled with metroids only to have the power go off. The music and atmosphere was unparalleled. Same goes for the arrival at Valhalla and finding all the drained husks of pirates. Two of my favorite Metroid moments.

Marry Metroid Prime exploration and gameplay with Mirror's Edge traversal mechanics in an HD-capable device and I will die happy.

Throw in voice logs (ship AI scanning) instead of having to pause the game for reading.

My body is ready.

The Prime formula is stale.

Sakamoto should make Metroid 5 while Retro makes another excellent Donkey Kong.

Holy crap at the Metroid Prime series hate on the first page :lol

I like all the Metroid games. Even Other M, which I actually liked very much so.
I also liked the Prime series, but that trilogy is done, at least according to Retro Studios.
I actually hope that the next Metroid will be a direct sequel to Fusion.
I would love to see more Fusion Suit Samus.

As appealing as Metroid Prime 4 is, I'd rather have something new (or remade...I'm looking at you Metroid II:Return of Samus...) in the 3rd person. I've always loved everything about Samus's Power Suit and I kind of missed it in the Prime series.

The Prime formula is stale.

Jeez, I wish that were actually the case.

Oh my goodness at all of the Other M support. That game is absolutely revolting.

I'm glad that the sales agree with that.

The Metroid Prime series is some of the greatest video gaming ever, but I don't really think it needs another sequel. I'd like to see Retro try something new. I'd still buy a Prime 4 though.
